Hey man, not sure if you gonna read this or not after so long but I thought maybe i can clarify some things because it doesnt get explained that much in the anime unlike the light novels (which i highly reccomend you pick up). I wont be spoiling so you can safely read this and maybe give me some feedback you can even message me if you need some clarifications. So like you said it is true that he started to have lingering feelings and wanted to keep her around. If you think about it Koji said he doesnt have amy more motivation to ascend or work for his class to go to class A since Chabashira sensei couldnt blackmal him into trying hard, which was the whole reason for him to try and help his class. Therefore if he wanted to lay low and do nothing there was no logical reason for him to keep Kei around anymore, but he still wanted to keep her around and use her as a pawn like me netioned in this episode. The thing is Koji is starting to change from this point onwards, since he is now free from his father for the duration of his high school. However, he is unaware of this changes and tries to justify everything he does by logical explanations instead of just taking in the changes that come along the way since that has been the way he has been ever since the White Room Programm. You are going to see it in the upcoming season, but we can safely say he is an unreliable narrator because he likes to decieve others and himself also, most of all the readers (e.g. his plans arent always what he says or have some more hidden plots). For example when Kei got tortured, realistically speaking, he didnt have to come to save her at all if he wanted to lay low so logically speaking he should have just abandoned her and let her go just like ryuen said, but he came to rescue her anyway. He basically started to contradict himself just because he wanted to keep Kei aroubd. Koji is in my opinion one of the best written characters and if you pick up the books and start reading between the lines his character development becomes more and more clear.
