To clear up your confusion, when Ippo said he wanted to take on Miyata's counter head on, he wasn't trying to speed up the re-match, but change the strategy they'd decided on. At first they were planning on running away from it, not throwing any big punches until Miyata was worn out, then finishing him in one blow. After Ippo realized how much the counter meant to Miyata though, he decided he wanted to overcome it not by running away, but by working just as hard as Miyata had.
