This is what made Ace of Diamond the BEST sports anime I ever seen. There was no immediate road to greatness. There was no immediate praise. He put the MC through SO MUCH for 3 seasons to the point where everyone who watched this anime loved him SO MUCH and hated literally everyone else 🤣 but it made this moment so fucking great bc of that…. It still brings tears to my eyes 🥹
I haven’t been here in a while but catching up to all these episodes has been a treat 🫶🏾

It is the slow burn of it that makes all the payoff we get mean so much more.

That build-up about Ace from the start of episode, flashbacks and talkings is just insane

Honestly I still can't believe Ochiai trying to swindle Sawamura out of his ace number lol. Don't get me wrong, I agree with some of what he said. Furuya had been getting better and switching out your ace who was a stand out at spring koshien would absolutely send a message to the other teams BUT to say "Sawamura is someone who grows in the face of adversity" to try to justify ONCE AGAIN giving him the short end of the stick is wild. Someone can only handle so many set backs before they're just crushed and won't fight anymore.
Not to mention the fact that if they hadn't given him the ace number it sends a crazy message to the rest of Seidou. That no matter how hard you work, no matter how much you improve and want something, if you getting the number you deserve MAY sidetrack someone else, you won't get it. That's not a great message. Kataoka has been very clear about giving chances to those who deserve it. Period.
Anyways, I absolutely love the scene of them getting the numbers. Sawamura shaking is so real and I love seeing him get his shot!

Seeing Sawamura finally achieve his goal is so satisfying
I personally have never seen an mc struggle that hard in a sports manga, him just playing well during a game gives goosebumps due to all the struggles so obviously him receiving the ace number could make a grown man cry man 😩
This episode is one of the moments where I think we all realized how much this means to us and damn Terajima did a good job to make us feel this way

Glad you enjoyed the journey it was a long hard fought battle with a lot of ups and downs, blood sweat and tears. Eijun is finally the franchise player that he wanted to be now lets see if he can handle the pressure!

This is the episode I've been waiting for when I started following your journey through this anime back in 2021.
Today we witnessed greatness, it was well worth all the wait and anticipation! This scene never fails to give me chills, it's still my favorite episode in the anime, it's the moment we all have been expecting from the beginning and the return of the Go Exceed opening for the reveal scene was that hit of Nostalgia we didn't know we needed.
Glad we got here, it's been quite the journey for sure... few more episodes to go but I can already say, this is definitely my favorite watch through. Can't wait to rewatch with your reactions from episode 1 XD

i really dont think i have to say anything about the ace topic in this episode, i think its masterfully done and it was such a long ride, man.
what i do actually want to talk about is ono: bro is 17 or 18 years old, in his last year in highschool with the last chance to play baseball before (minus college, i guess) adulthood starts and here he is, giving advice to his younger teammates as opposed to being devastated that he cant play in the qualifiers. fr one of my favorite characters that, as you said, should have had more screentime

The grind in this show is one of it's best aspects. It's one of the reasons I feel like other sports anime don't compare. The only one I could potentially see is Ao Aishi (hopefully the anime continues) potentially, but I could be wrong as I'm not reading it. Even still 167 episodes to this point is a worthwhile wait to me.
