Hey Josh after Monday night wars and lfg will u and tally watch as a series the new dark side of the ring I think the first ep of it out now it’s on vice tv in us if u don’t have vice it’s on YouTube and watch wrestling would be a fun interesting series to watch

Ryan Evans

In WWE Russo didn't have final say, that would be Vince. When he went to WCW there was no one to stop the really bad ideas. You have wonder what ideas of his Vince actually shot down.

Karen

One of the worst thing about Russo is that in WCW and TNA, he started booking for the "insider" audience who followed backstage gossip, ignoring the fact that most fans had no idea about that stuff. He was basically addicted to that times wrestling twitter. "Kayfabe is dead, so let's make backstage drama the new kayfabe".

.

Russo played part in some of the best and more so the worst wrestling content ever, but never the most boring. It’s no surprise Shawn Michaels is fond of Russo in this, as his NXT booking philosophy is very Russo coded in many ways. Shawn's NXT is the current most successful example of this style of booking. Safer bookers telegraph a "great moment", and the goal is to make fans wanna watch so they can appreciate the conclusion of the "great moment". One example being Cody finishing the story, or Darby beating moxley for the title. This other school of booking instead put a larger focus on casting doubt about future outcomes, and a faster narrative pace. Sometimes intentionally doing swerves just so the audiences don't feel comfortable in labeling future match or storyline outcomes a foregone conclusion. The goal being to make the audience watch to figure out what happens next, because they don't know. Neither approach is right or wrong, but Russo took his direction too far later in his career when he had more freedom. One philosophy risks being predictable and boring, the other risks being nonsensical and exhausting.

To be fair I think it was in the celebrity episode they watched. But I’m surprised they didn’t mention it again considering how many times they repeat stuff in this doc

No, Russo was worse than what was displayed here. Look no further than Russo booking an actor named David Arquette to win the World Title because he was the lead in a wrestling based comedy. A movie that included quite a few of WCW’s biggest stars. But the man made himself champion, so why wouldn’t Russo put the belt on an actor instead of one of the actual wrestlers. Nobody but Russo was happy with this decision. Idk why they omitted that from this episode.

I assure you as someone that lived it, it was much worse than what was shown here. It was completely unwatchable in 2000. Everything was constantly “going against the script” or “this isn’t in our format sheet”. Just tell me what I’m watching is fake. Imagine if a tv show did that, how can you suspend your disbelief? Trust me, they omitted a lot of the dumb things Russo did. The sad thing is he still somehow found employment in wrestling after this in Tna and continued his stupidity. Maybe one day someone should submit the “reverse battle royal”

David

In fact, the episode got rid of much of Vince Russo's crap. It was worse than what was shown.

Gabriel

russo actually started out as a video store owner before he lucked into the magazine job too

Rick D

Man I’m so far behind on these lol.

Steamed Ham Champion Dillon Haggett

I absolutely believe that McMahon sent Russo to WCW as a poison pill. Think about it, Russo needs a job at basically the exact same time WCW needs a writer. It’s a bit too convenient.
