Card Drives Version 0.2

Hey Cool Cyberpunks,

Attached is a new version of card drives, my solitaire cyberpunk game. I made a handful of changes to streamline things and create more of a visual language for all the possible bugs you can encounter. There were quite a few iterations between the last version and this one that didn't really see the light of day.

This version is a pretty good example of where my head is at with the game right now. No more health and no more buff/debuff system with encounters or cycling. Runs are now comprised of nodes: encounters where you have to play certain cards or poker hands, and bugs that give you troublesome penalties or buffs. Very much inspired by other deck building rogue like games.

I think I went a bit overboard with the "imagining the internet as a series of data cubes" aesthetic. I like it, and would like to use it more in the book but it's very time intensive for such a small project. Also I think it would be easier to just print off and follow a run if it was simple paths and nodes. I dunno. The image you see above is the starting run after several days of tweaking, and it will likely be easier to do those sorts of maps when I have a solid plan rather than fumbling around.

But I do like the idea that the book has diegetic design elements, like you're playing with a program or deck that sMUTT gave you, maybe to encourage you to make your own apps or use that same style. Lots to think about.

Anyway. Right now the fundamental mechanics are in a good place and I have lots of ideas for how to incorporate cards from other TCGs, so that will be the next step.

Talk soon, and as always, thanks for the support.

-Michael
