Not sure I get the reference 😂

.

Was he though? Mox just concluded his long program with OC for the International title (incredible arc with those two btw). Rey concussed him on the first piledriver and then Mox told him to do it again after calling the audible so the finish looked more legitimate. Everything about it felt off. They put it back on OC shortly after because there were never any plans for a Fenix reign since he was in tag team programs.

City and Local

Pants was being held up by a belt! lol

Big Ell

Rey was supposed to win that match. Knox should have stopped it sooner but that’s another story.

Big Ell

I love how two or three times seeing Penta on Raw gave you guys enough to be totally invested in this match. Now you can go back to that Lucha Undergorund you did several months back knowing that it’s Rey Fenix vs Ricochet and enjoy it even more!

Big Ell

The reasons for why they decided to leave our numerous, AEW loyalists will say lots of crazy things about it, given the whole tribalism thing, but they just felt disrespected. There’s a lot of politics that goes on behind the scenes in wrestling, and Mexican wrestling in particular is particularly notorious for that kind of thing, since there are two warring companies, kind of like we have here in the US, although unlike the US, the companies are a bit more comparable in size, unlike here where WWE is a much bigger company than AEW and the clear number one in terms of ratings, attendance, and popularity, in Mexico it is closer, although right now, CMLL is most certainly a hotter company than its opponent, which I don’t ever think you’ve seen a match from, but it’s called AAA. Basically the politics that made the Lucha Bros unhappy was that, both these companies have a rule that, it doesn’t matter what country a show takes place in, if a company chooses to use a wrestler from the rival company, the other company will say that none of their wrestlers can appear on that card. if memory serves, they were with AAA at the time, so CMLL insisted that they not be used on certain cards where CMLL wrestlers were appearing, things were further complicated by AEW and CMLL both being partners of New Japan, so it did make things hard for AEW, because since all three companies worked with one another, it wouldn’t just mean upsetting one of their partners overseas, it would mean upsetting both of them, but both members of the Lucha Bros felt extremely disrespected since, they were day one guys and beloved by the fans and they felt that TK could have done more to stand up for them, there were other things as well, like feeling like they should be higher on the card of course, which all wrestlers think for the most part, but regardless, it doesn’t matter, because they’re as good as gone now, Phoenix would already be in WWE if it hadn’t been for his contract being extended due to time off for injury, which is a tactic that both companies employ.

Ian Hernandez

Definitely petty but fenix is making good money sitting at home. He's not begging for food

Derek

Yeah. Lucha bros were basically non existing the last year and a half. One of TK's biggest WTF moment for me. You got Rey Fenix, you got Pants and you never use them. Just insane. But 2019 to 2023 they were always a must watch

Derek

Love love love this match. Absolute banger. Can't wait to see Remix in WWE

Derek

I adore this match! Just some context for their departure from AEW. They've done all that they could have and it was time to move on. They shouldn't have been openly negotiating with WWE while still under contract. Didn't help that Konnan was openly talking shit as their agent either. Rey was in and out of injuries (thus the added time). Rey also inadvertently concussed Mox in an International Title match and won by audible. Not sure if that also contributed to anything but it might be something to note.

City and Local

As for why they wanted to leave, Konnan, who is very close to them since way back, basically like a godfather, said that they were upset that they weren't being used more prominently anymore, despite being day-1 and super over. I don't remember exactly, but I think he said they wanted meaningful singles runs in AEW, and Tony put them in the trios division instead

.

I totally forgot that happened on this show 😂😂. Might be their best PPV ever.

.

Don't forget about the big debuts too

Matthew Harvey

This is regarded by most as AEW's best ppvs. Not only it has this match, it also has CM Punk's first match in 7 years and the debuts of Bryan Danielson and Adam Cole

Matthew Harvey

This was probably one of the top 3 AEW PPV's of all time, and their biggest gate of all time at that point. Punk's debut vs Darby, this match, Kenny Omega vs Christian, and multiple good midcard matches like Eddie Kingston vs Miro/Rusev.

.

2021-early 2023 was probably the most relevent tag team wrestling had been in 20 years. AEW tag titles almost felt like secondary world titles in AEW, and WWE tag titles ended up main eventing wrestlemania by the end of this era. It was a very special time that I wish could have continued. I feel like both divisions were hurt by more belts. As in the WWE tag titles splitting, and AEW getting more midcard belts and the trios title. NXT tag divison is currently very hot though, and the WWE womens tag division has started to get good.

.

Still my favourite tag match ever

Diruroru

Glad you guys enjoyed the match. Such a fun match can't wait for the Lucha Bros to reunite. BazMan pretty much summed up the situation perfectly. Konan has been known to run his mouth about others, and this time it screwed over the Lucha Bros. I understand why AEW would be upset with the situation. But I still don't like them adding injury time to Fenix's contract, and I especially don't like them removing his merch. It was wrong when WWE used to do similar things, and it's wrong of AEW to do now.

Drew Or Die

Fun fact - the first guy who raps during the Lucha Bros’ entrance is Mikey Rukus who does most of the themes in AEW

aloneinabox

What a drop off from 2021 probably the best cage match in AEW history to now with Rey sitting at home and Penta in wwe

Phillyman!!

Don’t forget Tony Khan taking down Fenix’s merchandise from the AEW store so he makes even less money while he’s being forced to stay at home. Talk about petty.

Gai Valentine

Great tag steel cage match one of the best aew matches ever the ppv was aew top 5 best ever too I’d say

Ryan Evans

I was literally watching this yesterday like "I must suggest this next max teir vote" and Drew always delivers. From what I can tell, they were heavily featured in trios action with Pac. Injuries to Rey and I think Penta took them out of the fold and they never really got the chance to get back into it. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but Konan is really good friends with the Lucha bros and he's anti AEW because they refused to do business with him or something. He started talking to much and mentioned Penta was looking to go to WWE whilst he was still under AEW Contract which caused alot of issues. Penta stayed off TV while his contract ran out and Fenix had injury time added on to his contract so he's still with AEW but they won't use him because he's WWE bound. Konan really screwed over Rey really. Pretty sure things would of gone smoother with their exit otherwise.

BazMan01

Oh my days I can't wait until the Lucha Bros are back together again 😇

aloneinabox

Aw yeah man
