You guys kinda missed the story while you were celebrating tally getting Cena at 30, John was expected to miss like 8 months to a year of in ring action, absolutely no one thought he would show up at the rumble. But after surgery John Cena started doing physical therapy 3 times a day instead of 3 times a week to return in only 3 months, it was widely expected that he'd either return just in time for WrestleMania or miss it completely, so him coming in to the rumble, and not just having a quick elimination win but doing the mini 1v1 match in the end sent this crowd absolutely feral. You can hear when he first comes out that even the Cena haters have forgotten that they want to boo him because the return is so incredible

2025-01-31 07:33:50 +0000 UTCI love MSG as a venue for wrestling shows, especially for shows like this. It's totally unique and iconic. It doesn't feel like any other venue that WWE would frequently use. I wish they would use more cool venues like this rather than always going to stadiums and stuff that almost always look the same. I guess that's just a symptom of the company being bigger, though.

2025-01-26 01:58:05 +0000 UTCOne of my favorite Rumbles ever. Shame 2007 got spoiled, because its one of the best as well! 🥲 Maybe you'll forget a year from now haha. 2008 is often regarded as having the strongest main event scene of all time in terms of volume. But the mid and lower card was really bad. Edge, Batista, Randy Orton, John Cena, Chris Jericho, Shawn Michaels, JBL, Big Show, Triple H, Undertaker, Rey Mysterio. And I might even have missed someone. The only new guys to have won a world title within the last 3 years (or so) at this point was CM Punk and The Great Khali. So they really did a bad job at developing new guys.

2025-01-25 14:25:36 +0000 UTCTowards the end of the rumble, I knew Tally woud feel much better and more confident after number 29 and ofc number 30. I just shook my head when Dporticus was celebrating too early lol. Great all time rumble tho.

2025-01-25 02:46:28 +0000 UTCWWE counts any title match as a “main event” but often the Rumble winner wasn’t in the main event, especially in the era of two World titles. Punk has never officially main evented a Mania but many argue his Mania 29 match vs Taker was more important.
Big Ell
2025-01-25 02:41:51 +0000 UTCJohn Morrison was also in the 2020 Rumble you guys watched. Blink and you missed him as Brock disposed of him quickly. He actually was the guy who found clever ways to stay in Rumbles before Kofi started doing it. Superfly Snuka is a legend in MSG, he jumped off the steel cage in 1982 before everybody and their mother started doing it. https://youtu.be/w8Fyu3iVRrs?si=5-m1TspuDTAeKhKu Snuka and Piper had a famous moment on Piper’s Pit in the 80s as well. Unfortunately you guys missed the reason this was picked, the huge pop for Cena (who usually gets booed) because of his quick return from what was supposed to be a much longer injury. I was in attendance and it was indeed a ridiculous surprise. As far as eliminations, if 2 or more people eliminate someone they all get credit. The champions of the time? Randy Orton vs Jeff Hardy was the WWE title match and Edge vs Rey Mysterio was the WHC match.
Big Ell
2025-01-25 02:38:48 +0000 UTCFunny thing is, Cena wins this Rumble and does NOT main event WrestleMania that year.

2025-01-25 01:49:27 +0000 UTCThat's later in 2008 going into 2009. Randy Orton defended the WWE Championship against IC Champ Jeff Hardy on this show though.

2025-01-25 01:48:51 +0000 UTCAfter the rumble ends, you guys should look at the match card to see if some of your picks were in other matches. Some of your picks for this one was lol

2025-01-25 01:43:56 +0000 UTCHe’s still contracted to AEW I think but if Morrison was able to come into the Rumble next week, Tally you’d lose you’re mind! Might just storm the ring. What’s the poor man done to you!! 😂

2025-01-24 21:53:47 +0000 UTCThe funny thing about John Morrison is that he was an upper midcarder. Miz & Morrison were Smackdown Tag Team Champions here but this was unproven rookie Miz. back then Morrison was the established star of the team. they said Punk was ECW champion well Morrison was who he beat for it and that's after Morrison already beat him on a few occasions.

2025-01-24 20:12:23 +0000 UTCI only intended to watch a bit of this while eating my toast before bed. Instead I sat there for the entire thing and watched it. It’s a good thing you both forgot that you watched Orton vs Cena from No Way Out the month after this in the last batch of Tally Tier submissions as that was Cena’s title match that he used from winning this Rumble. I love the Royal Rumble. Tally’s irrational hatred of John Morrison and “Time to play the game motherfuckers!” Were the highlights of this reaction. Funny thing Josh picked the WWE Champion and World Champion which were Orton and Edge respectively while Tally picked their challengers on the night, Jeff Hardy and Rey Mysterio. Also the list of champions Josh read towards the end were the champions at the end of 08 because obviously Cena was in this, but Matt Hardy was injured at the time when the list had him as ECW Champion. Cody was actually a tag champion at this point, his partner being Hardcore Holly. A fun fact is that Shelton was eliminated by HBK in three straight Rumbles, 06, 07 and 08. You guys may have missed it but the announcers said Chavo Guerrero was ECW Champion even though the winner had the option to choose the ECW Title for Mania. Oh, one last thing, the announcers made a big deal out of Undertaker and Batista squaring off after Batista had come in, that’s because in 2007 they had a series of great matches that started at WrestleMania 23. They had great chemistry and it really surprised people and showed them that Batista had more to offer than some thought.

2025-01-24 20:03:24 +0000 UTCFun Fact: Undertaker and HBK were the final two in 2007. That in itself was a big moment because those two haven't fought in over ten years prior to that. It was cool to see two icons from the 90's go at it after so long. These two rumble appearances then started the path to Shawn's two epic mania matches and retirement with the Deadman.

2025-01-24 19:19:39 +0000 UTCA Rumble win guarantees the main event most of the time, but there are exceptions. For example, the Mania main event after this Rumble was Edge vs. The Undertaker, while Cena wrestled Orton and Triple H for the WWE title in the middle of the card.
Ryan Redd
2025-01-24 18:55:17 +0000 UTCCM Punk has talked about this rumble before. When Roddy Piper and Jimmy Snuka were fighting, he was freaking out because Roddy Piper was his idol. So what may have looked like laughter was actually him losing his mind over getting to see his idol wrestle in person just a few feet in front of him.
Drew Or Die
2025-01-24 18:51:32 +0000 UTCJeff Hardy had the WWE title from that triple threat match with Triple H, and Edge at Armageddon from a month earlier that you guys watched on here a few months ago.

2025-01-24 17:54:47 +0000 UTCAlso I know he wasn't like a main eventer but I am really suprised no one has suggested a John Morrision match on here considering how long he was with the company and he was always an upper midcarder and how promiment he was in Miz's career

2025-01-24 17:51:41 +0000 UTCThis obviously can't be a weekly thing and it would obviously depend on the amount of tally tiers you get a month. But I wouldn't mind around 1-3 Rumble watch alongs a month instead of just waiting until next year's rumble for some rumble watch alongs

2025-01-24 17:49:33 +0000 UTCNiceee!! One of my favs here, with one of the most iconic Royal Rumble moments ever, Cena's huge return from injury at the end. Even the ppv itself was great. The championship matches were Orton vs Jeff Hardy and JBL vs Chris Jericho. Along with Edge vs Rey Mysterio, Flair vs MVP with Flair's career on the line. Fun ppv overall!!
Izz002
2025-01-24 17:47:14 +0000 UTCSo you guys just witnessed the birth of Super Cena. John was out injured with a pectoral tear and was supposed to miss 6-12 months but came back in 3. There was a lot of talk about Cena having some superhuman ability to heal faster than normal people and this snowballed into the Legend of Super Cena.
