The pair probably had more classics that people never saw than good matches others have had total. The in ring storytelling alone is enough to hook you with them with no further context, which is the mark of how great they both were.

You could show them this and they’d understand the style of wrestling of the time. It’s in the top 10 of best matches from the 80s for sure. That was a young Jim Ross on commentary he started his career in 1982 in Mid South as a referee first then transitioning to the desk. The other commentator was Magnum TA who was a huge star in the 80s but his in ring career was cut short due to a freak car accident. The referee Tommy Young is a legendary referee from the territory days. The referee who ran in right at the end and did the pin you might not have recognized is Theodore Long the amazing WWE manager. Just like Jim Ross he started as a referee in the territory days. You might’ve heard Jim Ross plugging the NWA nonstop that’s because this is after the national expansion. Vince has already taken wrestling national and he is actively trying to f the NWA at any turn he can diminish them. I think WWF was running a major show in opposition to this or doing some other big thing to make the reach of this a lot less.
