Punk made ring of honor? Hmmm lol idk . Epic return nonetheless. Saying he left wrestling in 2005 was a clever line

2024-12-04 19:54:58 +0000 UTCIt might not have ended that way if Tony Khan was a real boss and sat both guys down and made them sort their shit out.

2024-12-03 08:45:12 +0000 UTChis AEW run was so special man. Just magical stuff. Wish it didn’t end how it did. Also you guys seeing how much animosity fans had toward WWE is hilarious considering how much the sentiment has changed since pretty much the exact time you guys started watching.

2024-12-02 22:04:57 +0000 UTCI’m not exactly sure what it was that made him leave WWE in 2014, I think it was a whole bunch of things. He did a podcast with Colt Cabana back when they were on good terms, where he explains a lot of what was going on. I’d recommend listening to that if yous have some free time. It sucks on how it ended with AEW but that return in 2021 is exactly what some needed.

2024-12-02 20:02:38 +0000 UTCI used to feel that way, but then I heard so many wrestlers I like such as Statlander, Thunder Rosa and Hayter publicly defend him. Even Kenny spoke positively about him, which really shocked me.

2024-12-02 18:42:52 +0000 UTC2021 and 2022 AEW was a very special era. It was the first time since the 90s when a different company was on par with WWE in terms of weekly attendance, and there was even weeks when they beat RAW in viewership among people aged 18-49. There were so many over and interesting wrestlers, and the crowds were wild. I really hope they can get back to that some day, because that era was some of my peak wrestling fandom ever. I would watch every single youtube video and every single show. I was obsessed lol. I still enjoy many parts of AEW though.

2024-12-02 18:33:01 +0000 UTCI was so sad when Punk disappeared in 2014. He was always my favorite, and over the next 7 years we were left thinking he would never return to pro wrestling, that WWE had scarred him too badly. This night was pretty improbable, and I will never forget the feeling I had when his music hit. Took me right back to the place I was, watching him as a little kid.

2024-12-02 16:22:56 +0000 UTCPunk had been gone for 7 years this was a huge moment, guy was emotional about it. Take your toxic masculinity elsewhere buddy

2024-12-02 16:09:11 +0000 UTCNot trying to stir anything here. But this was louder than WWE. I was never a punk fan. I both liked and disliked when he spoke lol. But god damn, his AEW run was captivating. It's too bad both sides couldn't patch things up. And yes, I said BOTH SIDES. Both screwed it up for us fans.

2024-12-02 15:12:40 +0000 UTCI really like it when you discuss what you just saw for a few minutes after the video, so well done there. As stated by others, this was just a rumor. I’m not sure that you picked up on the fact that this was not even on Dynamite. This was Rampage and this led the show. Collision was created basically to be Punk’s show and that didn’t work out too well… The Punk vs Darby match at the PPV, also in Chicago, was a weird choice. Face vs face with an obvious winner, but it was nice for Punk to want to give Darby the rub. One particular grievance Punk has always had with WWE is that he received his termination papers on his wedding day in 2014.

2024-12-02 14:08:14 +0000 UTCI disagree. When Tally said “these are the same fans”, she hit the nail on the head. I believe there are plenty of fans who watch and enjoy both shows.

2024-12-02 13:36:44 +0000 UTCYeah for sure. I think a lot of it will also have been that the idea of Punk going back to WWE after everything he said about them in the past seemed so unthinkable.

2024-12-02 13:34:14 +0000 UTCOf course Punk was a big problem and left deep scars behind. And it is obviously too superficial to think that Punk wasn't a problem just because of "other things". Many Punk fans joined watching AEW who didn't have good intentions towards AEW and a lot of important stuff had to be changed because of Punk. The problem or mistake was to let him in in the first place after he declined the years before because he felt too big for AEW (ironically he missed 7 years of a lot of global wrestling development and just didn't "get it"), which is why he didn't respect other wrestlers and didn't fit in this idyllic atmosphere. That arrogance was felt by many in a lot of situations over the next couple years. And if you really want to put the finger on certain stuff that's not ideal nowadays, a lot of elements still suffer because of this phase of TK taking risks that hurt long term.

2024-12-02 13:27:35 +0000 UTCYou’re definitely missing quite a bit of context to what he’s saying. There’s a documentary that the WWE Vault YouTube channel uploaded recently which is the entire “CM Punk Best in the World”. It’s almost 2 hours so it can’t be submitted but I hope you both get around to watching it at some point. It doesn’t cover why he left but it shows who CM Punk is as a person and a little bit of why this return meant so much to so many.

2024-12-02 13:05:22 +0000 UTCMaybe general fans. But I'd imagine Chicago fans would be more likely to catch news of CM Punk wrestling again.

2024-12-02 11:43:20 +0000 UTCAnother thing is that AEW and WWE have different audiences for the most part. Most WWE fans don't even know that AEW exists. For WWE fans, Punk's return at Survivor Series 2023 was him returning after 10 years. These fans didn't know he'd returned at AEW in 2021 so the pop at survivor series was probably louder than it would've been if these fans knew Punk had already returned to pro wrestling in 2021.
Flynn Vicci
2024-12-02 11:24:52 +0000 UTCWWE at this time wasn't very good creatively so this was just the perfect storm for his return. They never officially announced his return but would always put little Easter eggs on screen leading up to it. I remember Kenny Omega wearing a Cookie Monster t-shirt. Whenever people asked what the CM stood for back in the day, cookie monster was always one of the answers.

2024-12-02 08:13:37 +0000 UTCI saw a post on twitter over the Roman Punk video and it said shoutout to the elite and Tony Khan for making this happen and that couldn’t be more true. Watching this video back you see what they had they filled that place out off the strength of a rumor he was showing up. The Elite crew ain’t like that and now after a few years of mean girls whisper campaigns AEW has been removed of the “cancer” But everything is still the same, nothings improved so that begs the question: Who was rly the problem in AEW? It certainly ain’t Punkraooni he’s gone

2024-12-02 05:50:15 +0000 UTCTrue to an extent. Traffic towards Rosemont just sucks worse lol. I want WWE to come to the UC more but I think its a money thing and All State being closer to O'Hare preventing it

2024-12-02 05:33:38 +0000 UTCEasily the loudest pop I've ever hared. Him returning well technically a rumor was the worst kept secret in wrestling everyone pretty much knew he was returning. It was most likely intentionally leaked to drive hype and it defiantly worked seeing as they sold out the show. It sucks so much things went down the way they did in AEW we where robbed of so many good matches. But at the end of the day there is no excuse for the things he did. At least he's in WWE and didn't leave wrestling as a whole this time
Drew Or Die
2024-12-02 05:32:07 +0000 UTCIts not the same arena. Lol The WWE in Chicago is Rosemont all state arena. The AEW shows are at the United Center. UC is bigger than the All State Arena
cmike5290 .
2024-12-02 05:25:51 +0000 UTC🤢 just seeing him debut in AEW made me sick. I grew up with classic Straight Edge Society, The CM Punk who went bald, who dominated as WWE Champion.
