I’ve never seen this but I have to imagine it’s Vader beating the ever loving shit out of this guy.

I'd suggest bloodsports if you're into this. Their matches are very exciting, and they tend to be quite short to mimmick the length of a real fight. They have had WWE wrestlers on their shows this year. This type of wrestling kinda died with the explosion in popularity of MMA in Japan. Especially because Japanese MMA was way more "freak show" vibes than even UFC. So it very much felt like unscripted japanese pro wrestling. Many of the people who popularized mma in Japan did this kinda stuff before.

.

Was just thinking of the same match

Love this match, one of my favorite shoot style matches ever.

Glad you guys enjoyed it! Indeed, the grappling, which is usually a lot more part of Shoot Style, as it is supposed to be a more realistic way of fighting, was pretty nonexistent here because Vader actuallly has no martial arts background, so all he knows are his pro Wrestling holds. The Shoot Style match I requested 2 months ago between Tamura and Volk Han was basically only grappling, which is why I chose something a bit more strike Heavy and with a bit more pro Wrestling drama. Big vs small with one of the baddest Big Man ever usually works :D The UWFi presented itself as the legitimate wrestling promotion (their belt being called the real Heavyweight championship). There is a lot of backstory to it, but basically promotions like these were te reason MMA took off. At the same time MMA killed off the hype around shoot style. Today mostly only Indie Promotions do Shoot Style matches, Josh Barnetts Bloodsport in Anerica every few months, wXw in Germany has one tournament once a year called Ambition and there are a few Indies in Japan, but there is nothing of the size like Shoot Style was in the late 80s to late 90s.

For Vader's names: He had a few pretty different ones. He started as "Baby Bull," which he quickly changed to "Bull Power." He signed with All Japan Pro Wrestling in 1987, but Giant Baba traded his contract to New Japan (Baba and Inoki already weren't on the best of terms, but were still able to be somewhat professional with each other at that point) after he decided he had too many "Stiff, Big Swinging, American heels" (Hansen, Gordy, etc) and feared it would be too samey. He was given the name "Big Van Vader" by NJPW and would use pretty consistently in Japan. He was specifically called "Super Vader" in UWFI because of a legal dispute in Japan over the BVV name. Then he switched to just "Vader." He did, for a brief period, work under his real name, "Leon White," which feels fake enough to be a kayfabe name, lol. Oh, and on Vader's strikes/powerbombs: Vader had a reputation for being *stiff* everywhere, to the point where a lot of people would refuse to work with him if they had the clout to get away with it. He wasn't trying to intentionally maim anyone, it's just the way he was taught to work. Vader scared Shawn Michaels with a stiff punch in a dark match, for example, and Shawn refused to work with him from then on. Others did the same, and it essentially killed his WWE push and turned him into a job guy as he fell further down the cards. At one point, he shoot broke an enhancement talent's back with a powerbomb during a match. He ended up using it in promos and whatnot to further his monster heel persona, but he was reportedly moved to tears in the locker room when he was first told about it.

Bigelow I mean, not gordy. (No offence to Terry gordy obviously)

Love for Vader and bam bam too. They were ahead of their time and yes Vader was a beast. You can see he isn't comfortable grappling shoot style and its meant to look like a struggle anyway, but I think Vader was such a beast with his strikes and suplexes and power bomb and ...etc. imagine taking a power bomb or Moonsault from Vader. Beeeeaaaaaast

Diruroru

I enjoyed this loads. I would not like to get palm striked by Vader I'll say that for nothing

Hopefully people suggest more Vader matches or just y’all see him on your own he’s a absolute beast. Vader was the wrestler who got detained in Kuwait he was on a live TV interview with Vader and Undertaker during an international tour. The reporter asked if wrestling was fake you can watch this on youtube Vader knocks the table over grabs his tie right at the neck and goes “does that feel fake” and Undertaker is just sitting there no selling it because hey that’s just Taker😂 Youve probably seen him before he’s the big guy with the red mask on that kinda covers his whole face. Hes so agile for his size and so dominant the way he can move around you wouldn’t expect it. He had a lot of big matches in Japan but also a lot of big matches in the US. I know Cornette worked with him a lot and has a lot of stories about him.

So glad to finally see Vader show up here. He's arguably the greatest big man in wrestling history. I loved how the perception of him changed once the match actually got underway, lol. Definitely hoping he shows up more now because he's somebody all fans should be aware of because his influence is still felt today and he has an important place in wrestling history. There's no way you can watch like Piper Niven, for example, now and not see Vader. In a related bit, I can tell there's some video game adjacency to this community. There are at least a couple of fighting game characters who are based on Vader. Raiden/Big Bear in SNK's Fatal Fury/King of Fighters series. Raiden is based on the masked version of Vader and Big Bear is based on the unmasked version of Vader. There's also Alexander The Grater (lol it's actually Grater not Greater) in Capcom's Saturday Night Slam Masters games.
