2025-02-18 09:03:32 +0000 UTCIk I'm late but the pins happen not because there's necessarily a chance to end the match but because the rules of wrestling are that the referee counts whenever the shoulders are on the mat. I understand that today pinning is a bit of an afterthought to the finishers and moves but in theory all wrestling is about is keeping somebody down for 3 seconds by whatever legal means necessary.

2024-11-30 08:03:45 +0000 UTCReversing the pressure on a figure 4 essentially turns the move into a calf crusher (AJ Styles does the move if you want an image for reference) and Darby sells the wrong leg which is common in wrestling, for example Darby is targeting MJF's good leg with the figure 4 in this match.

2024-11-28 23:51:56 +0000 UTCY'know Tally's right we should probably make Darby champion before he can't walk properly to celebrate it 💀 That being said what a good match MJF isn't my favorite wrestler these days as I find very little to enjoy with his matches but when he's good he's really good Darby is just always so damn good tho his body weight and the ability to look like he's gonna die every match makes it must watch Fantastic payoff with this match

I think the best solution is to expand viable match finishing scenarios beyond a wrestlers finishing move. Let's say a top rope suplex/powerbomb was booked to have a 2-5% chance of finishing a match, like the scoring chance of a corner kick in soccer. Every single time a top rope move is done will suddenly become super exciting, because we genuinely buy it as a finish. Compared to now, when everyone who has watched wrestling for decent amount of time knows that a superplex can *never* finish a match (unless it's one of their finishing moves). I think there has been a slight change in attitude, because both WWE and AEW this week had a wrestler win with a non finishing move.

MJF is capable of doing all the flips everyone else can do (he has done them in the past in AEW) but basic wrestling psychology says that a heel should NOT preform moves that would pop the crowd. If you’re a heel, your job is to be hated. But if you pull off a matrix-like backflip off the top rope to avoid a clothesline and land on your feet (yes Max did this before) people will cheer that whether you’re a heel or face. So he chooses to not use half the moves in his arsenal.
