It's really incredible that they could make this documentary in 2014, and somehow not see the parallels for Roman reigns in 2015-2018. The fans didn't like being told who to cheer for, they didn't want a white meat always smile baby-face, Roman clearly has some charisma that more naturally leans towards letting him run as a heel for a little bit and then you can turn him around once people start to think he's cool. For some reason Vince just couldn't see it. Granted, there weren't signs in the crowd screaming "Die Rocky Die" for Roman

If I was in y’alls position and just learning this it would be more entertaining, but the general talking points WWEs gone over too many times. They love to pat themselves on the back super hard wish they were a bit more transpareng. They can easily just be like hey during this time we really weren’t doing good or these conflicts were happening in WWE as well.

2024-11-26 16:04:05 +0000 UTCTo answer your question about how people felt; He officially left in 2004 but I’d say he was in and out every couple of months from 2001-2004. When he faced Brock at summerslam in 2002, a large portion of fans did turn on him that night as they knew he was leaving again to film a movie. He wouldn’t return for about 6 months. In that time i remember he won an award and he accepted via a pre-recorded video. Fans booed him heavily. Because of that the decision was made to turn him heel when he returned in 03, thats when he became Hollywood Rock. He was very entertaining as that character and people slowly accepted him again. They never really turned on him again after that; When he returned in 2011, I feel people just missed him. It had been so long there wasn’t really any of that resentment that had existed in 02.

2024-11-26 04:52:03 +0000 UTCI agree, I think the weekly celebrity guest host on Raw in 2010 really soured fans on celebrities in the business as a whole. That was, of course, right before Rocky made that comeback

2024-11-25 23:18:23 +0000 UTCThere used to be a super strong anti-celebrity mentality among wrestling fans in the 2000s and 2010s. Many celebrities would get booed for being on the show. So yes, there were people who basically thought The Rock "betrayed" WWE by leaving for Hollywood. I think AEW sort of changed people's attitude, because it flared up ratings and clout discourse again, and celebrities are now seen as a way of boosting the brand of the company.

2024-11-25 22:25:31 +0000 UTCFOR THE FIRST TIME IN 2 YEARS. It cracks me up every single time.😂 I think one downside of modern WWE compared to then that I'd like back is that there were more funny moments in the 90s and also the 2000s. And the show was at such an erratic pace week to week back then due to the compeition. Basically every episode had an iconic moment. But that's more of a latteral move, since the slow pace of modern WWE allows for the more complex and consistent nuanced interpersonal dynamics.

2024-11-25 22:04:32 +0000 UTCSo funny Booker T from 10 years ago literally jinxed that The Rock will be at Wrestlemania 40🤣

2024-11-25 21:54:27 +0000 UTCWwe staying on cable 🤣 ya theres no chance in hell and I MEAN NO CHANCE IN HELL!!! The ratings will ever reach 9 Million. Hell AEW cant even stay up at 1 Million each week. When Raw goes to Netflix in January ya 9 Million shouldn’t be a problem now. Cause its gonna be streaming live across the world so it could reach the billions

2024-11-25 21:46:38 +0000 UTCMe being a huge Rock fan I was upset that The Rock was leaving for Hollywood. To the point where I was booing him when he went up against Brock Lesnar and the crowd turned on him as well in that match. Rock goes away then comes back as Hollywood Rock then I fell in love with him again because he was so entertaining

2024-11-25 21:44:42 +0000 UTCWWE brought back “This is Your Life” like 7 or 8 years ago and it was one of the WORST segments they’ve ever done. They got both ends of the extremes covered. In case you wanna watch it out of morbid curiosity, I won’t spoil who’s in it but you’ll definitely be sad to learn who it’s about. You mentioned if people were upset over the Rock coming back after a Hollywood, oh boy. You MUST watch his promos with John Cena. It hits DIRECTLY on that.
