The Ascension vs Finn Balor & Hideo Itami - NXT Takeover R-Evolution

So, Vince was pretty hands off on NXT. He still had authority to change whatever he wanted in NXT, but he kinda saw developmental as beneath him and let the black and gold brand be ran by its own creative team spearheaded by Triple H. This is why to many NXT felt very fresh in the mid 2010s while the main roster felt pretty stale This meant that when it came time for Vince to take people out of developmental, they had established characters, history, and gimmicks that he had nothing to do with, and therefore they were worthless to him. He'd often change their names, book people who were seen as main title contenders as midcarders to feed to the established stars, and when his creative ideas failed to get them as over as what worked before, he'd blame the talent and punish them for failing with the opportunities he gave them. The ascension in particular got turned into comedy jobbers pretty much from their main roster debut and never recovered. This is why by late 2010s, an NXT call up was pretty much seen as a death sentence for your favorite black and gold wrestler, because Vince would be ready to dismantle everything you liked about their old run within a month

Like Bobby Roode who’s gimmick became “Great entrance theme”

Steamed Ham Champion Dillon Haggett

Both of the Ascension are still active in wrestling but they are no longer a tag team, according to Google.

Karen

I know the theater nerd in you would love the entrance. This the first time he appeared as the demon. I also think the entrance works better on a shorter entry ramp like here.

Karen

Popular NXT acts failing on the Main Roster was a common thing for years, because Vince would never let wrestlers do what got them over organically, it was the same problem with the cruiserweight division at the time. In fact, it happened so often fans didn't want wrestlers to move to the main roster, in fear Vince would ruin or bury them. It seemed like if he didn't personally create the gimmick or understand it he would destroy it, similar to a lot of the WCW/ECW wrestlers when he bought both company

Hey josh are u and tally doing a watchalong on youtube for aews full gear ppv this Saturday looks decent card few good matches but few on there don't care about

Ryan Evans

Correction, this is Finn's 4th match in WWE. But this is still the first time the Demon showed up

Matthew Harvey

That's dope

Dport

One thing that wasnt apart of thee context was this was Finn's debut match in NXT so by default, this is also the first time he used the demon in WWE

Matthew Harvey

Yeah that move Kenta/hideo was going for that the crowd wanted was the go2sleep :)

Diruroru

You guys already watched Hideo/Kenta before, he is the inventor of the G2S/Go To Sleep, yet he was unable to use the move during his early WWE run due to a certain someone having the same finisher...👀 That's why the crowd went crazy when he put his opponent in fireman's carry position, expecting him to hit the move though it's just teasing & he's not gonna hit it.

The Ascension and Stardust had a short stint together as a trio on the main roster. Their name was “The Cosmic Wasteland”

Kam

Yeah they were booked super strong and still have the record as the longest reigning NXT Tag Champions at 364 days. Then they got buried I think on their very first night on the main roster.

Steamed Ham Champion Dillon Haggett

I didn’t watch NXT then but I remember this match. It’s basically what Guila and Vaquer vs Roxanne and .jade was at Halloween Havoc.

1. "Hideo" or Kenta is someone y'all saw last month and loved(and from what I've seen of the next few submissions y'all ain't done with him this month just yet) 2. Unfortunately the Ascension weren't fits for Vince and he buried them hard and they became a jobber tag team and a comedy act and ever since they were released I've heard absolutely nothing about them unfortunately
