My auntie bought this on DVD for my cousin when he was like 10 or 11. Little did she know they used cheese grater in the main event

You had a conversation about his surname being Awesome lol

Tally, the word you were looking for regarding the Australian instrument was Didgereedoo

I was only 100% sure I'd seen Awesome because I remember thinking his name was funny 🤣

You had reacted to their first match back in the original ECW that I had submitted a few months back. This was their rematch

Masato Tanaka is really an enigma, he still wrestles in his early 50s even though most of his matches looked like this.

This was my first time getting a look at ECW. I remember my Uncle ordering this on PPV and watching it when I was 9. The only thing I remember from this match was that table spot at the end of the match. I remember back in elementary school, my friend and I would talk about this show. Especially the spot at the end.

I love this match so much. Probably in my top 5 strictly hardcore matches of all time. Masato Tanaka always impresses me with how much damage that man can take. The only thing that irks me is Joey Style's commentary in regards to Mike Awesome leaving ECW. It just seemed over the top and unneeded. I love Joey and he's undoubtedly the best solo commentator of all time but I wish Mick had really pushed back harder on him when he started saying that shit. Awesome made the decision to leave ECW because they weren't paying him overdue wages and WCW gave him a contract saying they would pay him a lot of money. Seeing how ECW turned out and all the wrestlers who are out a ton of money because Paul Heyman couldn't pay them, he made the right choice for himself at the time. RIP Mike Awesome. Such a fucking shame what happened to him.

All ECW matches were hardcore matches with falls count anywhere. Hoo boy some of those chairshots are fucking brutal

I actually found out about Awesome when he was in WCW and he was probably the first big guy I became a fan of (until WCW killed his career with gimmicks like "That '70s Guy" and "The Fat Chick Thriller"). Glad he got this one last match to look like a badass in. Joey Styles' comment at 3:40 is really uncomfortable now given that Awesome did end up taking his own life.

What’s cool about getting back into wrestling now is how much old stuff is available to go back and see. I’m watching the start of Eastern Championship Wrestling which is what it was called before it started changing over in 1993 I believe. Right now it’s just really good wrestling with a lot of cool people on the roster. I just know in about a year and some change it’s gonna be utter chaos 😂😂

This is perfect timing w NXT going to the ECW arena tonight!

You were kind of right. This was a tribute show wwe put on for ecw; who had gone out of business about 5 years earlier. They used a lot of their ex ecw talent they had under contract at the time and brought in some free agents like these 2 in this match. Im willing to bet a lot of the free agents were working hard to potentially get jobs in wwe beyond this show, some did.

Really needed this upload after the Election yesterday so good timing y'all lol Hope we get another today but this one was fucking awesome I ain't seen it in years but it still fucking rules

Some context after viewing. As far as I'm aware, most ECW matches weren't called hardcore or anything. Every match was basically no rules because that's what ECW was. Masato Tanaka was a death match wrestler so this sort of thing was normal for him. Mike Awesome was ECW Champion when they were starting to have financial trouble and WCW offered him alot of money to break his contract and go over to them, which he did. He refused to sign a contract or lose the belt till he was paid money he was owed. Eventually they made an agreement and he lost the belt to Taz. WCW then made him a joke character and really didn't utilise his in ring ability. I believe you watched these 2 guys in an earlier ECW match so this One Night Stand match was just a celebration of that. No real story. Just pure ECW carnage that the fans loved, and I'm sure Mike Awesome wanted to have this match to win some ECW hardcore's over again. It's a real shame that just a year later he wanted to retire as he felt he wasn't appreciated for that match and then the following year committed suicide. Guys like him who were big, strong but could still dive off the top rope or out the ring didn't come along often and he should of got the appreciation he deserved

BazMan01

Oh man I am so glad your reacting to this. 9 minutes of PURE ECW perfection.
