Monday Night War - Ep 10 - Who's Next

Goldberg is in many ways the 90s equivalent of Ultimate Warrior. Idk if you have seen/know of him. Even to the point of beating Hogan whilst holding the midcard belt. The title Goldberg held is the same lineage as the current WWE US title. Goldberg and Ultimate Warrior are what zoomers would call an "aura merchant". Basically, they can't actually wrestle, but they're a 10/10 in all other aspects, so they get by well.

.

Just for some context with Regal and Goldberg - Back in those days, matches were called in the ring on the fly. You only knew the finish and you took the crowd for a ride based on their reactions. It wasn't until the 2010's where matches became more choreographed. Jericho mentioned in many of his podcast episodes that only a handful of guys today can call it in the ring. The usual suspects that were around back in the day and also Bryan Danielson.

City and Local

I used to play in a band and we had the spark machines similar to what Goldberg used for his entrance. They are titanium powder and don’t hurt, but inhaling it can’t be good for you

Bobthekow

To add to why the finger poke was so dumb. They had split the nwo in 2. Nwo Wolfpac (a face faction lead by Nash) and they feuded with the black and white nwo (a heel faction lead by hogan) for about a year. For modern context, imagine if jey uso had beat Cody for the title in a face vs face match. Then the next night Jey and Roman were going to have this big match but jey lays down for him, handing the belt back to Roman. Imagine they did that to reunite the bloodline instead of the storytelling they’ve done lately. That’s what they did. That’s why people hated it so much, it negated almost a year’s worth of build and storytelling to reuinite the nwo in such a dumb way. Also at the expense of Goldberg who got destroyed by them after.

David

Ya and you can tell what year all the superstars are in by how they look, cause Kevin Nash in some of the interviews literally aged some of his interviews he had his normal hair so it was around 2011 to 2012 sometimes man had gray hair so its in 2014

WWE Jay Gaming

The Monday night wars was one of the first network shows so it makes sense to only feature the roster around 2012-2014ish. But constantly seeing that same bischoff interview from 2002 with the raw set behind him is funny

David

People say his rap album was good but hmm yeah . My point was that they got shotted the title to Hogan or macho so many times that the nwo was just more of the same bad booking philosophy. U get me

Diruroru

Be a man :p

Diruroru

Feels like forever lol

Diruroru

I was thinking 5ish damn

Nicholas Kramer

Macho was a six time World Champion. Four time WCW Champion and two time WWF Champion. And two of those WCW Title reigns ended after one day and both times he lost to Hogan.

Steamed Ham Champion Dillon Haggett

WrestlingBios has a series called Reliving The War and he counted The Streak as WCW did and yeah they only inflated it by like ten or so.

Steamed Ham Champion Dillon Haggett

Few years ago? Hate to make you feel old, but his second stint was eight years ago.

Steamed Ham Champion Dillon Haggett

He did go to WWE in 2003 and they fumbled him too. It wasn't until a few years ago that they actually used him decently.

Nicholas Kramer

Goldberg didn't go to WWE until after the Monday night wars were over, and he didn't almost kill the undertaker until about 5 years ago, which was after this doc was made.

Charlie

If you include house shows and dark matches, they didn’t actually exaggerate the streak that much. There were even a few Nitros where they undercounted him for the sake of a flat number like 75 instead of 78.

Ryan Redd

I'm aware 😆

Dport

Bro, the docuseries is about the handful of years during the Monday Night War, not the entire life and times of Billy Goldberg.

Noct

My point is it definitely wasn't a goldberg problem

Diruroru

Vince could never sell a Stunner good. Also Bron Breakker reminds me a lot of Goldberg.

Christopher Barnes

Wcw did loads of bad booking since macho man came in. I think he was an 8 time world champion by 1995 or something crazy. Most of them were against Ric fllair, and all 65 of them were in TV mmatches.

Diruroru

His infamous match with Undertaker was in 2019 at a Saudi show (of course 😂). This doc was made in 2014 when Saudi shows wasn't a thing yet.

Izz002

Lol The time they recorded these interviews Goldberg never faced the Undertaker, they recorded these interviews literally the time Goldberg made his debuted to WWE, when Eric Bischoff is talking that recording is from 2002 When the wrestlers are talking its either from 2010 2011 2012 2013 or 2014. CP Punk in his interviews that was 2013 John Cena i want to say that was either 2012 or 2013 i can tell because of the breast cancer awareness Pink attire. Kevin Nash his Interview was in 2011 or 2012

WWE Jay Gaming

So Goldberg did go to WWE the night after WM19 so 2003 and left the night after WM20 so he only did a year in WWE this Doc was made in 2014 so when this was done he had not returned yet he returned in 2016 to start a feud with Brock and has been in and out since then

RW____96

Facts: his winning streak was surpassed by Asuka and Asuka’s winning streak ya we ain’t gonna see something like that ever again. 173-0 for Goldberg 267-0 for Asuka.
