Jeff Hardy vs Triple H vs Edge - WWE Championship - Armageddon 2008

So in your previous experience, extra commentary tables were always for other language commentators. Unfortunately you're now in 2008, the age of the triple brand split, where raw, smackdown, and ecw all occasionally shared a single ppv and brought their own commentary teams who got their own tables and would take turns doing commentary. When it wasn't their guys in the ring, they'd take their headsets off and then just sit and watch. 2008 was around the time I first started feeling my fondness for wrestling giving out, and this is one of the many examples of small things that kinda built up into a greater issue with WWE as a whole in the late 00's to mid 2010's

That is Taz on commentary, this is the year I believe they split up the King and JR without their knowledge and drafted JR to smackdown to commentate with Taz and Cole did Raw with the King. And I believe this is also the era where each commentary team would do their own brands matches, so when a raw match comes on I think Cole and king would hop on

The reason you see HHH do the catapult spot so often is because it was an old Harley Race spot, Harley Race is HHH favorite wrestler of all time, and HHH took a lot of inspiration from Harley Race. Also, a long term injury angle that fooled a lot of people when it happened was Junkyard Dog being blinded by the Freebirds in early 80s Mid-South. JYD was made to wear an eye patch when ever he left the house to sell the angle, and it even fooled the local news in the area. It got so much heat that a fan brought a revolver loaded with bullets that had “Freebirds” engraved in them, I think it may have the best payoff of any angle in wrestling history.

They were in the WWE before 1998, but they were just jobbers.

Actually before the draft SmackDown was Cole and Mick Foley. Tazz was on ECW and was bought over to SmackDown when Edge attacked Foley after he had had enough of Vince in his ear all the time.

The Hardy’s debuted properly in 98, were a team until 02, reunited in late 06 until mid 07 and then reunited in 2016 through to mid 2017 and then reunited again in AEW in 2022 right up until now. Confirmed Tally hates Motörhead. Jacob Fatu actually does the Whisper In The Wind now. I also so badly want the shirt Matt is wearing. “How did he get up there?” I imagine they had scaffolding and ladders behind the stage.

That image of Jeff with the belt at the top of the set is so iconic. As for Triple H being slow, the actor Stephen Amell had a match at SummerSlam (I think 2015) and later in AEW, and that's what HHH told him before SummerSlam: "You know, right before my first match, Hunter came up to me and he went, ‘Listen. When you get out there, slow everything down. And then when you are positive that you’re going to slow, slow it down. And then when you think that there is no chance in the world that you can go any slower, slow it down."

best day ever as a kid 😭

sareee the real wrestler of the yr btw

I've said it before but there was no one more over in 2008-2009 than Jeff. He out sold Cena on merch which was unheard of during that era as Cena was the guy that's how over he was. I was in high school at the time and it was crazy to see the amount of people who wold wear Jeff's merch. It was the only time I ever experienced wrestling breaking out into the main stream even just a little since I was to young to have experience the monday night wars

As always I already typed everything and don't feel like deleting it, so if somebody already got to it, hopefully I added more details. The last Armageddon PPV. That's what we all been saying. Why don't they do unique sets anymore. Matt Hardy & Jeff Hardy had single runs. If we're talking about WWE, Matt Hardy had his single run from 02'-04 while Jeff Hardy was in TNA. Matt came back in 2005 and had another run from 05-06. 2006 was when Jeff came back and that's when Matt & Jeff Hardy started teaming again. They also had their own separate runs in 2009/2010. Jeff Hardy left the company in 2009 and Matt Hardy left in 2010. Some people would argue that this Jeff Hardy theme is better than the Hardy Boyz theme. He even got a chance to bring this theme back In his most recent WWE run. I like this theme better too. There's two versions of his theme too. One where they had a band to sing it, and one where Jeff Hardy did the vocals. I think the one with Endeverafter (the band) is the one Jeff Hardy used on TV. In Smackdown vs Raw 2009, they used Jeff Hardy's version. Sometimes (back then) they would use alternative versions of wrestlers themes in the game even though they were using something different on TV. He actually debuted this theme in February of this year too. Fun fact: this was the year when everything went HD. WWE went HD too and switched sets too. They were the same on RAW and Smackdown, they just switched the graphics like they do now. This was the start of them phasing out the unique sets. WWE went PG earlier that year too. Another Fun Fact: a year later in 2009, Jeff Hardy would be gone from the company, in 2010, Triple H would stop wrestling full time after his fued with Sheamus, and in 2011, Edge would have to retire because of his neck issues. The reason why Jerry "The King" Lawler and Michael Cole wasn't talking was because this is a Smackdown match. During the draft in 2008, Jim Ross got drafted to Smackdown (which he wasn't happy about) and Michael Cole got drafted to RAW. If you go back toy can see the brand logos on the top if the announce tables. That third announce table all the way at the end was the ECW announce table. This was during the revival of ECW. It was already dead by this point. They were only around for another year until February 2010. That's when we got NXT for the first time. But yeah, the commentators used to only announce the matches that corresponded to whatever brand they were on. Before the draft, we had Michael Cole and Taz(z) on Smackdown and Jim Ross and Jerry "The King" Lawler on Smackdown. That's who I grew up on during the Ruthless Aggression Era (2002-2008). That guy Vladimir Kozlov is what Gunther was supposed to be. They pushed him big on 08 too. He was new to the company. He only been there for about a year. Nothing really came of him whether it was because of him, booking, or both. He was released a few years later. In Smackdown vs Raw 2010, he had this kick that people used to spam online. Jeff always had good chair shots like The Rock.

HHH is very methodical Most of the time to the detriment of a match He isn't good at taking his time like Roman is because Roman makes his methodical tactics more entertaining instead of just a slog to get through

Paul Watson

I like the slower more methodical style more myself. It does a great deal of heavy lifting for believability for me to buy these guys are in a fight and not just performing very well choreographed spots. The easier it is to suspend my disbelief the better the match. I like the fast stuff too but I think nowadays its so quick it could benefit from slowing down a bit even to just give the crowd time to react to what they are seeing before moving on to the next thing.

Nicholas Kramer

What yall saw on commentary was every show's own announce team calling that shows matches at the ppv... this was a smackdown match so the Smackdown announce team called it. Thats why Cole and Lawler was just there chilling because their night was already over..

Shaun Carpenter

Two of the most popular guys in 2008 was Barack Obama and Jeff Hardy

Matthew Harvey

Jeff and Matt also had a programme in 2001 ish times against each other involving lita :)

Diruroru

The celebration was lengthy because this was an amazing moment for Jeff, being his first world title win.

Eron Bacchus

jeff is my favorite ever, this title win still means so much to me 😁

Dre Mercy

Jeff and Matt have feuded, They battled each other at WrestleMania 25 in an EXTREME RULES match! maybe one day it will be recommended here. :)

Izz002

Yeah, this is probably my favorite moment from my childhood. Jeff is my favorite wrestler of all time so it was so sick to see him win his first world championship. Bro wears face paint, has a weird dance, and jumps off high stuff; what's not to love?
