I do think all but that one guy mean well and is just trying to be persuasive. I don't think Dunne is bad as a technical wrestler in terms of doing moves, he just can be quite repetitive and doesn't have a holistic skillset. Compared to someone like Bryan Danielson, who has much better dramatic timing, which can make even a new or casual fan get engaged with the technical wrestling.

But that equivalency doesn't work when I've already clarified that I do not think Pete is a bad wrestler, and that my misuse of a word like "carry" can easily be attributed to being newer to the lingo. So using it to imply what you did was uncalled for, and neither of us found it funny given the context of the rest of the conversation. Once again, I hope you enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

Mind you, many people saying these things (not calling out anyone is specific) will proudly tell other fans how bad X wrestler is, and expect no pushback in return, and get mad if they do get pushback. I'm not going to go into detail, but I can assure you that there are highly experienced people who have worked decades in the business who think Pete Dunne has many bad habits. So don't let people make you feel "ignorant" for not getting the grandure of Pete Dunne. You actually have a very good eye for grasping the structure and tropes of matches that it honestly took longer for me to pick up on as a fan.

I think some people might be defensive over the use of the term 'carried' because it's normally reserved for bad, (sometimes) barely mobile wrestlers. While his moveset isn't as spectacular as Tyler's, he obviously does have his role to play in a lot of Bate's moves. Tyler's spinning DDT counter only works if Dunne acts as an effective base before flipping himself safely onto his own head, for example. That said, wrestling is beautifully diverse and there've been many objectively amazing wrestlers that I've just never connected with, the same way some people don't vibe Will Ospreay. While there were a smattering of Bruiserweight chants at the start, they got the crowd so invested by the end - and hearing a US crowd give multiple standing ovations to our two little indie boys (I'd only just seen Tyler perform in front of around 100 people earlier that same year) was heartwarming to see. I also don't think I've ever heard americans chant the name of another country before XD

Got me in a defensive mindset not gonna lie “don’t talk about my boy like that!” Haha 🤣 I do however completely get why the style may not be for you - it’s sort of reminiscent of the old school British style somewhat, being that it’s very defensive and not too flashy with the whole joint manipulation thing. I hadn’t really seen that too much before Pete, someone who focuses on it that much so that’s why I think he was unique. That being said, these 2 complement each other perfectly with Tyler being an incredible underdog. If that match didn’t get you sold with Pete’s style then no match will really, that’s just what he is. And that’s absolutely fine dude, not everyone is for everyone.

2024-10-27 17:45:40 +0000 UTCSaying Pete Dunne being carried in this match is wild & a bit harsh lol 😂 But to be fair his in-ring style & especially his joint manipulation section of the match is not for everyone, so i can understand your lack of interest in him. Just know that his little things, though bored, did help enhance the match as a whole & incredibly contribute to the insane pace later. Hope that through others' recommendation of his matches you will grow to love & respect him even more as a performer. (Wonder if somebody's gonna submit the Dunne vs Walter/Gunther match, Dunne did a lot in that match that i think you will love his performance there)

I don’t think the guy that recommended this was like “I’m gonna give DPORTICUS this match where Pete Dunne gets carried.” One, because that match doesn’t exist, and two a match with these two involved, healthy and young, NO ONE is being carried.

How am I supposed to take you saying Pete got carried than anything less than a shot at Pete. Either you don’t know about wrestling, so you don’t know what being carried means. Or you know a lot about wrestling to where you can point out someone being carried. Doing the whole “I know nothing about wrestling, but I can tell you this 20-year vet got carried” really doesn’t work.

Responses like this are a great way to get someone to not want to give their honest thoughts on things. I took no personal jabs, I never said pete was a bad wrestler, and the Gunther comparison is ridiculous. I'm happy you love Dunne. And the whole point of this patreon is for someone like you to explain those factors you mentioned so I can learn things I wouldn't otherwise know, but without the weird extra hostile phrasing.

They both trained together and I believe there's a documentary on them from years prior to being in WWE. So seeing them both get their big moment definitely brings a tear to my eye. I'm hoping once Tyler Bate heals they'll either be a tag team again or maybe feud. Thank you guys for watching!

I don’t think you quite understand how instrumental Pete Dunne is behind the scenes preparing for these matches. He knows as much wrestling as anyone in WWE. He is a producer behind the scenes, a trainer, ask any wrestler that has been around him. You can say you don’t like Pete Dunne in the ring or on the mic, but trying to discredit him when he probably came up with most of the sequences, is disrespectful as hell. I don’t mind people not liking wrestlers I like, but its personal shot that are just so unnecessary and mean on purpose. Like people calling Gunther fat for instance because they don’t like his style. Pete Dunne is a damn good wrestler. Good Night.
