In the Fullness of Time - Part Two

This is part of a short story I wrote using my solo RPG, Spooky Action at a Distance. This was generated using an earlier version of the game, so the results of the rolls might not line up to the version available now. However I still think this is a neat example of the kinds of stories that can be told with this game.

Session One - First Proxy

Proxy Details

Name: Taiwo Abioye

Age: 31

General Session Notes: Proxy spoke English to the Envoy. However other people in the nearby observation room perceived the proxy speaking in languages in which they were fluent. Examination during the debrief found the proxy suffered some injuries due to stress on vocal cords, tongue, and mouth, implying that although each person who perceived the proxy only perceives their own language being made with the proxy’s mouth, they are in fact speaking each of them at once.

Proxy challenged the envoy’s status, seeming to be uncomfortable about interacting with the envoy. Unprompted the proxy spouted several personal facts about the envoy, including a failed marriage, an estranged son, and her recent mission to launch the Solar Phenomenon Observation Satellite. 

Partial audio transcript:

Envoy Burgess: “Would you be more comfortable speaking with a different representative?”

Proxy: “No. Why are you here?” 

Envoy Burgess: “I was brought on to the project, the project to figure out what is happening, early on. We thought this was something to do with the sun. When people started to disappear and reappear, my role changed and I was elected to be the envoy. There was some sort of selection process but I wasn’t informed about what exactly happened. “

Proxy: “Why are you here?” 

Envoy Burgess: “Well, I am an astrophysicist. I study the galaxy, but my primary field is in solar phenomenon.”

Proxy: “Why you?” 

Envoy Burgess: (frustrated) “Well I guess no one else was ready to do this.”

Connection between the proxy and the ribbon terminated. Proxy began speaking in her native language. Later debrief revealed she was unaware of the time she spent as proxy, and exhibited the same signs of confusion as others who have been displaced by the ribbon.
