Dark Side of the Ring - Last of the Von Erichs

That's what I'm asking though, what has he gotten wrong? I'm just curious as nobody really says

I’ll say this I’ll ignore the star rating debate. I think historically he has a lot of knowledge and I respect him for that. But lately in the past 5 years almost all his reporting has been bs. Wrestlers have called him out on it too. He seems to be just guessing most the time. I think he lost it or whatever source he had within these companies. His more often wrong than not. He’s no longer the go to for wrestling news.

David

Cheers, mate. Tbh, I get people not agreeing with the whole star rating thing (I don't particularly agree with most of the ones I've seen myself) but surely that's just one person's opinion in what he thought was good? I don't think the issue with star ratings is that Meltzer shares his opinion rather it's that other people have applied meaning to them, but that's hardly his fault. When people talk about false reporting, I very rarely hear anyone give specific examples. Any kind of reporter (particularly one who's been going decades at this point) is going to have examples of when they've gotten a story wrong, but is Meltzer's hit rate particularly lower than everyone else's?

Historically, nothing. As of late, he's been wrong on a lot of things, particular in his hatred of modern wwe that clouds some of his star ratings and his star ratings which typically are anti-wwe and pro-aew tend to drive forward the IWC's toxicness so I don't think it's him getting anything wrong as much as it is driving a wedge between the two fantasies. This isn't even getting into his false reporting with unreliable sources as of late. He's definitely fallen from grace.

What am i missing with the Meltzer stuff? What has he been wrong on?

As others have said when it comes to history you can trust Meltzer he's an excellent wrestling historian . Everything else though I would take with a grain of salt. Back before the internet Meltzer was the wrestling media essentially. There are stories of wrestlers contacting him in order to find out how much money promoters made for certain shows that they where on to make sure they where being paid appropriately and not getting ripped off . They would contact him because at the time he had more accurate info then even they cold get. That is not so much the same now days as he's been getting allot of stuff wrong in recent years.

if Dave Meltzer is talking history you can probably trust him he does have a ton of knowledge

Ross & Marshall have wrestled in AEW and Lacey Von Erich (Kerry's daughter) wrestled in TNA for 2 years

I remember watching this blind and being so bummed out. Also, one thing that wasn't mentioned due to Kevin being very particular about how his Dad is portrayed... There are fans and people in the business who believe that the Fritz Von Erich was abusive to his sons and would push them way too hard. But Kevin disagrees with this and just thinks he was very strict.

.

I used to listen to Meltzer. But he's said a bunch of weird stuff lately, and his reporting has become very inaccurate and sometimes insensitive, so I stopped listening. I don't care about his star ratings because that's just his opinon. Though it is annoying when his stans will fequently cite his star ratings as though they're objectively true or inherently valuable. Though to be honest, most wrestling talking heads have stans like that.

Most powerful quote “it takes more guts to live not to die” 💯💯💯💯

Phillyman!!

Kevin's sons wrestle in aew and I believe with Dustin Rhodes are 3 man champions. And Kevin is usually at ringside with them.

I used to Love Meltzer but the past few years it's been made very clear his old sources either stopped talking to him or left there respective company. Seeing as both Paul Heyman and Chris Jericho have admitted to being sources of his in the past I'm going with the first option. I've never had a problem with his star ratings those are just his opinions but he continues to report stories that get disproven days later. Just the other day he reported the Rock won't be at mania this year only for the Rock to make a tweet saying that was bullshit

Drew Or Die

With Kerry yes he had his foot amputated and carried on wrestling with a fake foot and would keep his boat on and only took it off when he got back to his room so it was only family that knew about his foot so all the wrestlers at the time did not know

People hate on Meltzer because he’s turned into a idiot these past couple years 😂 The guy can’t stop taking Ls with how wrong he is

Also made me tear up once again watching the story. Last years movie "The Iron Claw" about the Von Erichs can also be recommended. (I have to say I actually like Dave Meltzer and appreciate his amount of knowledge. Don't know why people getting riled up when some journalist gives star ratings that reflect his opinion. People can use it as some kind of guide or not)

I remember yall loving the 1982 match with Kerry because of the ending and his selling. Terry Gordy slammed the cage door on his face and Kerry sold it like death I remember he had yall thinking he was legitimately hurt from that. All of the brothers were talented asf but I really like Kerry the best. I’m sure other people have their favorites but I really like his energy.

John Coffey

This is a tough one to watch happy yall got to see their story after seeing Kerry wrestle. It wasn’t explained well in the doc but Kerry’s foot was amputated and he literally had a wooden leg after that. So he would wrestle with a wooden leg and would hide it and not show it to anyone. How he could still go out there and perform how he did is commendable. In terms of switching out people in World Class they just needed to fill that legacy’s shoes of the brothers who they lost. Kevin and his sons just did something on AEW I think it was the All In pre show.

John Coffey

Oh no

Darius Anderson

This is such a heartbreaking story about the Von Erichs and it never fails to make me tear up, cuz I can't even imagine the pain of losing one brother, let alone all of them and in such a quick rate. All the prayers to Kevin 🙏
