Love this match 😍 ❤️

I’m shocked. We need some Summerslam 91 or WM 13 up in here!

Big Ell

Vince COULD be terrible, with the constant 1-2-3 he got him! oh no he didn’t.. (he doesn’t really do it in this match)

Big Ell

Oh Ya that was the match the Crowd was so annoying with the countdown 🤣🤣

WWE Jay Gaming

I heard they put the match together but Bulldog had been out smoking crack the night before and forgot it all.

Steamed Ham Champion Dillon Haggett

It’s not the only IC Title main event. Ziggler and Rollins main evented Extreme Rules 2018 for the IC Title

Ive watched this before and i just cannot like Bret Hart. Hes so boring.

Steamed Ham Champion Dillon Haggett

Hitman, I'm fooked. I've been smoking crack for weeks.

Glad people let you know that Vince was actually a good guy announcer. Personally believe it or not, I liked Vince. Vince was a different kind of commentator, and I should clarify that I like him as a commentator, saying nothing about him as a human being. As a commentator though, I actually thought he did a uniquely good job at getting the characters and story lines over, because obviously, he was the one behind all of them, and who better to explain what you’re supposed to be thinking and feeling at each moment in a story than the author? Obviously this is a different kind of announcer than, say, JR or Michael Cole, but I think it would be dishonest to say that Vince was terrible by any stretch of the imagination. I understand why you would have thought that Bob’ys remarks on commentary were quite out of place, because the bad guy announcers nowadays Make very few and usually kind of soft bad guy remarks, and they are more spaced out, but back in the day, if you were a bad guy on commentary, you were a bad guy, no doubt, no shades of gray, and I honestly thought That Bobby was gold, I didn’t grow up in this era, in fact, I wouldn’t even be born until five years after this, but for whatever reason, I have always loved this era of wrestling. I think if you’re going to have a heel commentator, he should just be a heel, although personally, I actually prefer two Babyface announcers, but if you’re going to do it, have the heel go all the way.

I was also a few months old when this match happened.

This was the first SummerSlam in the UK and in a OutDoor arena, and so far the only SummerSlam outside the US, and the Only PPV that had the IC title main event.

Before it became common knowledge that Vince owned the company, he was the play by play commentator for a while. And he was awful. “What a maneuver!”

Ryan Redd

That was actually Bobby Heenan that was being an ass on commentary, Vince was the one telling him to stop lmao

Charlie

It was really funny that they figured out Vince was on commentary but then immediately thought Heenan was Vince because he was saying heel shit

Edit - Did some commentary while watching and after watching. Not sure you picked up on this but Vince McMahon was on commentary with Bobby the Brain Heenan. Heenan usually spends most matches making hilarious jokes, and there’s usually a straight man to play off. Heenan worked best with Gorilla Monsoon but Vince did an ok job too. Gorilla and Bobby calling Rumble 92 is their crowning achievement. Edit- you picked up on it near the end. But then thought Bobby was Vince…Bobby was a heel announcer, he was the one making the insulting remarks the whole time. If you listen back it will make more sense. Also, this was at Wembley Stadium in front of 80K people (same place as AEW All In the last two years. Another fun fact - this was the first (and only, I think) taped PPV so the US could watch it at a normal time. In an era before spoilers thankfully.

McMahon is actually the nicer one on the commentary team the guy I'm pretty sure you're talking about is Bobby heenan and he would rip on the baby faces all the time lol. Although I do appreciate Vince's awfully droning voice on nearfalls and calling an inverted atomic drop a ....reverse piledriver? Wtf Vince lol.

So Bulldog, according to Bret, had been smoking crack with Jim Neidhart for weeks leading up to this show. Bret couldn't get in contact with him for 2 months so Bret had to put a match together by himself and hope and pray that Bulldog can at least pull his weight. During the match, Bulldog said to the Hitman “Bret, I’m fooked.” And so Bret had to wrestle this match with a 260lbs broomstick and talk him through every spot. Bret is truly one of the best of all time.

Kidd Kingpin

Well that explains a lot, like his promo beforehand! Damn and they still put on a good match!

the famous story about this match is that Bret and Bulldog had planned a match out in the weeks before hand. But then Bulldog went missing and it turned out he’d gone on multi-day crack cocaine binge with Jim Neidhart. He had to be collected from the airport in a bad state. When it got to the day of the match, the Bulldog in a bad way, he pulled Bret close and went ‘Bret I’m fooked’: he’d forgotten everything about the planned match. Bret had to lead him through things on the fly. You can notice Bret telling him what moves they’re about to do whenever he puts Bulldog into a headlock or whatever. The fact the match was a good as it was is a miracle, and a testament to Bret’s ability as a worker. Source for all this is Bret’s autobiography.
