You guys should watch the WWE Confidential episode on this match. It’s a really great and explains everything that happened.

2024-09-14 18:17:08 +0000 UTCShane’s music also hit when it was supposed to be Ortons turn to go out and Randy said something like “I’m not fucking going out to that.”

2024-09-14 17:42:25 +0000 UTCThis is such a wild match. To give context, this is about a year into Kurt's career. He was able to get very good very quickly. I would never say Shane was a good wrestler but during this time period, he was a very entertaining wrestler. He was known for taking insane bumps, like taking a bump off of a scaffolding that was a part of the stage. When he came back later (he left the company completely from 2009-2016), it was a lot worse. He wasn't able to take those bumps he used to and he wasn't improved enough to really hold his own in matches where he wasn't able to use that as a crutch. He also was booked incredibly strong when he really didn't need to be. The Royal Rumble example is one of those where he booked the match and put himself to come out as #29 (he was originally supposed to come out at #29 but his music played at #28 instead of Randy Orton's and Orton said that he was not going out to Shane's music lol) and last until the final 3. This went over very poorly with both critics and backstage, including Vince, so he was fired after that. I highly doubt he'd be welcomed back but there have been rumors that he might go to AEW.

2024-09-13 10:03:25 +0000 UTCalso I'd recommend shane mcmahon vs steve blackman at Summerslam 2000 for shane's biggest moment

2024-09-12 04:47:18 +0000 UTCAccording to Cagematch.net a wrestling database shane has had 127 matches from 1999 - present day, he mostly would show up at random times and wrestle in odd storylines then he'd leave and we wouldn't have any idea if or when he was coming back.

2024-09-12 04:42:00 +0000 UTCEverything you said was great but this was actually his third match of the night. Along with Christian he fought edge as well in the kotr finals.

2024-09-12 04:37:30 +0000 UTCThis is 2001 I believe. Kurt's you suck chant didn't start until early 2002 and yes they chanted that whether he was a good guy or bad guy after that. Just an endearing you suck when he was a good guy.

2024-09-12 02:45:02 +0000 UTCAlright, I’m late. I didn’t read the comments yet to see what was answered or not. I just put all the information here. That suplex on the ramp at 21:57 cracked Kurt Angle’s tailbone according to Angle. Look at Angle’s face after the suplex. That’s why you see Kurt struggling to get Shane back to the ring after the glass spot on the stage. That’s why he rolled him on the equipment case. Kurt Angle also talked about this match on YouTube. I’m sure if you type in something like “Kurt Angle talks about King of the Ring 2001” on YouTube, it’ll show up. There are multiple videos about it. Oh yeah, the reason Kurt Angle used the board at the end of the match was to help support him because of the cracked tailbone from that suplex earlier in the match on the floor. It was supposed to be another type of glass according to Angle, but they used real glass. I think they did it because sugar glass wouldn’t hold up because of the pyro. Like I said before, there are multiple videos on YouTube from Shane, Kurt, and the referee’s perspective. Kurt was a little over a year in and he was already one of the best in WWE. This was a year before the “You Suck” chants started. Edge was the one who started it in a segment with Angle on an episode of Smackdown in April of 2002. This is also Kurt second match of the night. He faced Christian in the opening match. Shane’s head sounded like a cinder block hitting the ground that first attempt through the glass.

2024-09-12 02:07:02 +0000 UTCKurt was the heel here not Shane but the you suck chants didn’t start really until 2002. There might have been a few people doing it but it was during Kurt’s feud with Edge where they started to become a regular thing during his entrances. Edge started the chant in a promo exchange with Kurt. Shane was a basically a rich backyard wrestler. He like his father was usually an authority figure that would only wrestle occasionally but when he did have a match you knew it was going to be a spectacle.

2024-09-12 01:36:27 +0000 UTCKurt was definitely the heel at this time. Shane had been a face for the early part of 01 in his feuds with Vince, big show and this match. It wasn’t until the invasion started after this ppv that they flipped him heel and Vince a face.
David
2024-09-12 01:32:07 +0000 UTCAlso, this match, and Goldberg nearly needing to get an arm amputated because of a stunt with real glass, is why you don’t use real glass is in pro wrestling stunts.

2024-09-12 01:06:38 +0000 UTCSo both Shane and Kurt were NOT fans of what they did in this match. Kurt doesn’t like gimmicks like this. Shane doesn’t know how to throw fake punches and legit busted open Kurt as the first thing he did in this match. Kurt fractured his tailbone on that Suplex on the outside and couldn’t put enough strength into his throws to get Shane safely through the glass panes. And that sickening thud we all heard when Shane’s head hit the ground, took Shane completely out of the match. He could barely walk after that. Luckily Kurt was able to use a crate to wheel him back to the ring. Props to Shane for going through with the planned ending and massive respect to Kurt for guiding the match and fighting through the pain of a fractured tailbone and giving Shane that top rope Angle Slam. This match was a disaster that landed both men in the hospital. But both guys made a statement that night that they would fight through anything to give the audience an unforgettable experience. I will always respect and appreciate Kurt Angle for his talent and dedication to the wrestling business and love for the fans and I don’t care how ridiculous Shane McMahon is/was, he’s always been the best McMahon in a moral sense and he put himself through hell to please the fans well past his prime.

2024-09-12 00:56:39 +0000 UTCThe 2022 men’s Rumble was just bad all around. There weren’t any huge stars that could have realistically won because most of them were injured or wrestled earlier in the night. And the winner became obvious the second his music hit. The match would have been bad enough even without the part that Shane booked, but once he came out and started eliminating actual wrestlers, the match was beyond saving. The funniest part is, Shane botched his elimination, which made it look like Brock Lesnar had a hard time eliminating him which is something that should never happen.

2024-09-12 00:55:32 +0000 UTCShane was the rich kid that put his body on the line so fans respected him for it. and for the record Kurt's back was fucked up around this time which is why he couldn't properly throw shane like he needed to break the glass and why he needed to cart Shane to the ring
cmike5290 .
2024-09-12 00:08:46 +0000 UTCI still call them Pay-Per-Views hard habit to break. Crazy you get shit for saying PLE.
Nicholas Kramer
2024-09-11 23:48:58 +0000 UTCThe "You suck" chants happened occasionally, but they didn't really become prominent until Angle's feud with Edge in mid-2002 (the same feud where Kurt lost a hair-vs-hair match, resulting in his more recognized bald look)
Adam Nelson
2024-09-11 22:59:24 +0000 UTCShane was essentially the world's richest backyard wrestler.
Adam Nelson
2024-09-11 22:55:49 +0000 UTCShane McMahon was technically a heel here, but he always had a lot of good will with the fans for being willing to go above and beyond whenever he got in the ring. You knew you were going to see a spectacle most of the time he had a match. That's mostly why he got such a good reaction. He gave the crowd what they'd come to expect when he wrestled.

2024-09-11 22:54:32 +0000 UTCSomeone should request Shanes match at Wrestlemania 32 lol

2024-09-11 22:41:57 +0000 UTCapparently what happened is that originally they had the sugar glass their but before the show when testing pyro it melted and the crew replaced it with real glass panels and i guess that wasn’t properly communicated to somebody

2024-09-11 22:33:26 +0000 UTCThe Royal Rumble your talking about with Shane was 2022 and i don’t think he booked the whole entire Royal Rumble i believe he just booked himself in it. The winner in that match was already booked. And Shane when you see more of his matches 🤣🤣🤣 oh boy lets just say imagine Jeff hardy Mick Foley and Shane in a Triple Threat
WWE Jay Gaming
2024-09-11 22:26:52 +0000 UTCYeah, it was supposed to be sugar glass, but they couldn't use it because of the Pyro. So they used the real stuff and either didn't tell the guys or they forgot during the heat of the match.

2024-09-11 22:25:41 +0000 UTCthey are tons more Shane McMahon matches before this one that are worth watching. Summerslam 1999 and 2000 he had great matches. Backlash 2000 and judgment day 2000. Both vs big show 👍👍
Phillyman!!
2024-09-11 22:21:19 +0000 UTCShane was a regular face on WWE TV for multiple time periods. 98-01 was his first run, 2003 was his second, 2006 was his third, he briefly came back in 09’ and had a run from 2016 to 2022

2024-09-11 22:20:03 +0000 UTCKurt angle literally broke a bone in his ass during the match lol

2024-09-11 22:18:15 +0000 UTCSo with the rumble story he did not have fully booking power of the rumble but was trying to run things and did make himself the star eliminating people that he should have no right doing and yes he did make the final 3 he also was trying re-writing it like he was planned to come out at 28 and Orton at 29 and Shane was trying to switch it but at 28 WWE played Shane's music and Orton said "well i am not going out" which is funny and after that mess Vince fired Shane
RW____96
2024-09-11 22:15:35 +0000 UTCFun fact: the glass Shane went through that was real and they weren’t supposed to go threw that, and Vince was Pissed lol
