Dark Side of the Ring - Brawl for All

Comments

Jim was never pissed off with Bart Gunn. His anger was and always be with Vince Russo.

A bird in the hand, is worth Drew in the bush.

I think Jim was saying that stuff about costing the company 5 million to Russo. But yeah in the end Vince agreed to do it.

Jim Cornette will occasionally have a point I agree with but he always explains himself in the most annoying and immature way. He is one of those people who seem to think that the world should cater solely to his tastes and that anything he dislikes is the worst thing to exist and there is no good to be found in it. It's so annoying and frustrating. Also wanted to say RIP Droz. Tragic what happened to him. It truly goes to show how much wrestlers risk every time they go out there.

Zakk219

Another thing to keep in mind is that the producers of the documentary can edit footage to look however way they want to support their narrative

Daniel Carpio

When Vince McMahon is the filter of someone's ideas going "too far", that says a lot about that person.

Adam Nelson

As you do more of these dark side of the rings you'll see more and more Cornette is one of the greatest minds in wrestling history and also one of the biggest haters in world history . Dude literally cleaned up his life just so he could live long enough to piss on vince russos grave

Sam Tolan

Maybe someone already said it, but the guy cornette was pissed at it in the hallway after Dr. Death got beat was Russo, not Bart. Doesn't make it okay to say that to someone, but more understandable 😂

.

Cornett didn’t have that tirade bc Bart won. He was saying that at Vince Russo for having this idea

Wilson Simons

Jim Cornette and Vince Russo are in many ways the polar opposites of wrestling ideologies. Vince is extreme Chaos, and Cornette is extreme Order. Cornette wants things to be like the late 70s and early 80s, and Vince wants to turn wrestling into Jerry Springer. You need a balance of both Chaos and Order to make an exciting wrestling tv show. You can't let it go too far in one direction. That being said, Cornette at least praises many parts of modern WWE and gives constructive criticism, he even admitted that Ospreay is a good wrestler 😂. Whereas Vince more or less says everything is bad.

.

Vince Russo is the kind of guy who is super creative and can come up with really interesting ideas, but you CANNOT let him "drive the car". You need somsone above him that filters away his bad ideas. I will keep it at that because you will probably learn about him in the Monday Night War documentary since he was a very important person.

.

Bart was Fd as soon as he agreed to the butter bean fight. Vince is an idiot for punishing him. Really a guy with 50 wins in professional boxing vs someone who was still thinking about his footwork and trying to get used to it in a fight setting. Way to go Vince McMahon...

Diruroru

Plus fans came to see wrestling matches not “real fights”.

Steamed Ham Champion Dillon Haggett

He has 40 years of experience in wrestling business under his belt so I rather listen to him than Russo or AEW “geniuses”

Rustle My Jimmies

one of the issues with advertising ‘real fights’ on a pro wrestling show is that, by implication, you’re telling people all the other stuff you put on is fake. the brawl for all didn’t just undermine (and horribly injure) the people in it, it undermined the whole show. intensely stupid idea.

Will Humphries

My first wrestling show was Mania 15, which had the Bart vs Butterbean fight. It was weird to see even then. Had a real “what even was that” feel to it.

Wade Kruse

You'll learn that Cornette has no filter. He just says what's on his mind and doesn't give a crap what anyone thinks. Lol.

Chad

I'm definitely Team cornette on the Cornette/Russo beef because I'm never gonna forgive Russo for running WCW into the ground by booking like 50 different world title changes in a year and making himself World champion in the show he was booking and literally booked an actor with no wrestling experience to become World champion all in that exact same year.

Chad

Thought this when it aired: I mean, it sucked but it's hardly "Darkside of the Ring" material. Everything else they cover is so...dark compared to this.

Karl Dutton

Not many people know more about wrestling history than Jim Cornette, but his takes on just about anything else, including wrestling post 2000, are hit or miss to say the least. Vince Russo, on the other hand, is just an idiot. He’s had a few good bits of booking, like the 1998 Survivor Series, but he’s also booked some horrendous shit. In WCW he: -Booked an angle that made WCW matches canonically fake in his first week. -Created the Oklahoma character which was a commentator designed to make fun of Jim Ross, including JR’s Bell’s palsy. -Booked himself to win the WCW title. -Made wrestlers lying down for each other a semi-regular occurrence. -Tried to push all the older wrestlers (the guys people wanted to see) out of the company to make room for younger guys instead of even trying to use the older guys to get the younger guys over.

Ryan Redd

I don't like Vince Russo lol. Horrible booker.

Chad

Of Vince Russo's many horrible idea's this was by far the worst and that's saying something. Also him doing the brawl for all because of JBL is something he only recently started saying and Russo has been caught in countless lies over the years so I wouldn't put much credit into that. As far as Corentte goes well i don't agree with allot of his takes you always know what you will get with Cornette and unlike Russo he is very consistent with his stories. With that said there is not a person on this planet that knows more about wrestling history than him. So when it comes to things involving wrestling history he's a very good person to get knowledge from

Drew Or Die

Both Cornette and Russo were/are ridiculous humans. But never forget, McMahon had both in his circle cuz he was the top of the food chain as far as complete maniacs go. Also, does this look real enough for the realism folks?

Nate Cruz

You need to watch some Dr. Death matches from AJPW, he was a beast. There had been similar kinds of matches in NJPW for example, where Inoki would bring in martial artists or boxers and fight them with the aim of proving that pro-wrestling is the strongest. Most famously he had a televised fight against Muhammad Ali. By this point there had also been a bunch of shoot style promotions in Japan and Pride had recently started I believe.

Dagur Hall

This was just a bad idea from the jump and yall mentioning the bracket at the end I didn’t even think of that. A 16 man bracket is wild to start with why not just try it out for a dark match before the show? Then it’s not televised, only the people getting into the show are gonna see it and you can see if it actually works. NXT has tried to do boxing matches called Rounds matches I think and they are horrible. Theres like 15 different rules and everyone of them is like two drunk guys trying to fight. This kind of thing sounds cool in your head but put into practice even recently with Trick Williams vs somebody it looked soooooo bad. There’s a lot to the Cornette/Russo hate that isn’t fleshed out. The Brawl for All is Russos worst idea but just google Vince Russo Shotgun Saturday Night, his run as a booker in WCW and in TNA he had some terrible ideas. Hes like Tony Khan in the way of where he’s got fan/insider knowledge but no real experience in wrestling. That creative job he had in the WWF was his first real gig in wrestling past being a magazine writer. He had never been inside of the guardrail to watch a match before that point he’s made that comment before. You have a guy with no experience who Vince Mcmahon/powerful people are listening to next to a guy with a world and a half of experience who has to deal with that. Cornette actually worked with Russo in TNA as well and has talked about that experience. It’s been documented youtube/online both of their sides and thoughts on stuff. It’s like water and oil they can’t mix together and you can never get them too.

John Coffey

Being for Cornette but from afar seems like a good philosophy :D In regards to Russo claiming he wanted to punish JBL, he only came up wth this story in the last couple of years and with his lying streak, I would not be too shocked if he just invented that later. It is much more likely that they wanted in on early MMA success but had no idea how.

ElSche

Cornette is a huge bigot so don’t put too much stock in him. Kinda sad to see a lot of people here caping for him.

Wade Kruse

This makes way more sense lol

Dport

Cornette was pissed at Russo not Bart

Myron Rodgers

Cornette’s wrestling knowledge is up there with the best of the best like Paul Hayman. And he’s also one of the best mic workers of all time. Shoot fights like the Brawl for All is a complete unknown. All anyone had to go off of was the competitor’s toughness reputations irl. NOBODY except Bart Gunn thought he would beat Dr. Death. Also, Cornette is not everyone’s cup of coffee. He’s very blunt and brutally honest with his opinions when it comes to wrestling. He won’t hesitate to tear into someone for disrespecting the business he’s given 40+ years of his life to. He’s got 2 different podcasts where he talks about different things each that are both in the top 5 wrestling podcast. Just goes to show that he can talk about whatever and people want to listen. The fanbase is quite fittingly called Cult of Cornette. He’s just got that magical kinda charisma mixed with his encyclopedia of wrestling knowledge. But for someone as positive and optimistic as you, you’ll probably not like how he’s very critical of a LOT of wrestling nowadays. He’s also not politically correct AT ALL. He’s still one of the most entertaining wrestling personalities to listen to and I love the guy even if I don’t agree with 100% of his takes. Also Jim’s life goal for the past 20 years or so has been to outlive Russo so he can piss on his grave. I hope that gives you the smallest inkling of just how much Jim hates that man. And it’s not just Jim. You’ll find out more about Vince Russo as you continue your adventure down Wrestling history

Gai Valentine

Vince Russo is a monumental cock womble

BazMan01

When Cornette was yelling at the dude for costing them 5 million, he’s yelling at Vince Russo, not Bart Gunn. I think you missed that part. He blamed Russo because he came up with the idea. He wasn’t talking about choking out Bart for beating Dr. Death.

Kam

This is the perfect followup to the screwjob episode for seeing Cornette and Russo. Are they both pricks? Absolutely, but at least one has some sense of how wrestling actually works.
