John Cena & Roman Reigns - War of Words Promo

Comments

That was 8 years after his debut though. Glad he finally made it but the pandemic definitely helped him develop his character.

Big Ell

They also gave him Paul when he returned

Karen

Big dog Roman Reigns is very underrated and unappreciated even tho the fans hated him except for me ofc he always showed and did his thing if anything blame Vince. Roman was just doing his job as any of us would 🤷🏽‍♂️ I’m just glad he is finally getting his respect and flowers. #AcknoledgetheOTC ☝🏽

Roman da Gamer

I saw Roman give an interview, I believe it was on Logan Paul's podcast where he said this was one of the hardest but best things that ever happened to him because it motivated him to never be outclassed like this again.

Zach Faulkner

Yeah! I think it may have been when Roman was battling leukemia around 2018 so they needed a 3rd man for their match

Woozie

SEE YA FOURTH WALL

Myiic

He's just that good!

Tallywags

Definitely! They threw him into the deep end and he barely knew how to swim lmao

Snazzyway

I feel like this was a baptism by fire from John to Roman. He did the same thing with Austin Theory. If he knows your a lot better then you are and your not on the level you need to be he’s gonna come out and call out all of your glaring flaws. I bet Roman sometimes when he walks to the the ring he remembers when everyone was not liking what he was doing. Hopefully situations like this where Roman was truly put to the test on the mic showed him “I’ve got a LOT to work on, this is what I’m specifically struggling with, how can I make myself better”

John Coffey

I don't even know how he does it. I feel with him, and in a way I admire the man. Was talking to a friend earlier and he may actually be a/the goat at this point. I don't ever get that invested in wrestling anymore, only danielson has managed that multiple times and before that was Bret as a kid. Mad stuff

Diruroru

It had to be done I will submit more terrible Roman reigns promos MARK MY WORDS

Jakob Micheal

True, there were some parts of the tribal chief. It just wasn't quite there yet. He stood no chance against Cena at this point lol Cena was just too good

Tallywags

Damn I didn't know how much he was being forced to say some of those things. And to put him up against someone like Cena? That was a sure way to give the people what they wanted lol

Tallywags

☝️I may or may not have shed a few tears at WM 40 when he lost 😆 that Danielson match was so good! Could feel that it was a big moment for him even after only watching a few matches of his.

Tallywags

Joing during the bloodline era saved me from watching this moment live at least 😆

Tallywags

I bet this moment alone helped push Roman to be where he's at today. I wouldn't want to show my face out there after that lol

Tallywags

I can see how it was cathartic to people, but I'm glad I'm not the only one that felt bad 😅

Tallywags

Well now I feel like we need to run part 2 between them lol

Tallywags

No way! He was part of the shield for a moment?? 😆

Tallywags

See I was thinking that too! (Totally unbiased of course lol) but then Cena turned it up to 100. Cena didn't need to do him like that lol but...if this is what pushed Roman to be where he's at today, well then thank you, Cena.

Tallywags

YOU!! You put me through this?? 😆 Josh refused to give me the whole name of the person who submitted this after we watched it lol

Tallywags

I think the problem here was more with how over-produced and scripted promos were at the time. If Roman had just been given the high points to hit in his promo rather than it being scripted word for word, he would have been in a better position to recover from Cena's interruption. He might have fumbled a little, but it still would have been better than locking up like he did.

Adam Nelson

Oh no

Cena gives people cry face

Kurt was there because he was Raw GM.

Steamed Ham Champion Dillon Haggett

The problem was never Roman. He was just pushed way too hard way before he was ready. You could instantly see the increased confidence when he returned during the pandemic and that's what the crowds bought into once he returned.

aloneinabox

This verbal assassination by Cena was SO cathartic at the time for all of us fans. We all knew very well that Cena was a master on the mic and Roman was never that good around that time but nobody expected a slaughter like this. But Cena was the one guy in the company who could get away with tearing down WWE’s golden boy. Cena said everything the fans been saying for years to the guy that’s been shoved down our throats by Vince to the point of quitting watching the product. During Roman’s part, you could definitely hear the Tribal Chief coming out but the pieces weren’t all there yet. So many comments aged like milk tho considering Roman is undisputedly the biggest draw in WWE during its most popular and most profitable phase since the Attitude Era.

Gai Valentine

Same man, like I knew he could do it but his words didn't hit me. The content of his promos a lot of the time felt like they should have been from others on the roster, because he also was that company guy he is calling Roman here. Yet he hung and destroyed basically everyone in his delivery, skill and his commitment to hustle loyalty and respect. In retrospect he was actually fucking amazing lol

Diruroru

The bad Roman days.

Abs Ali

This was a verbal evisceration, the fans absolutely hated Roman. I didn’t hate him but I definitely wasn’t the biggest fan of him. I feel bad for him because he was forced to say a lot of the corniest, cheesiest stuff imaginable. It made him easy to hate, he had some growing to do on the mic. He’s actually great when he’s allowed to be more of himself.

Snazzyway

Cena has this thing where he basically can keep up with anyone promo wise I don't know how I didn't notice it as a kid but he could even keep up in the Punk promos He was a master of even that part of the craft and nobody ever paid enough attention til his latter years

Paul Watson

Who even could hang? I'd say Owens and punk , I'm not super memorable about this period but yeah. Cena damn

Diruroru

To be fair Roman was winning and being pushed so much it was ridiculous, for what the audience could see he wasn't at the level to deserve it yet. At the time he just wasn't that good. Obviously now he's great. Love that tally is a mark for Roman though, kinda why I cried at least 4 times in the last danielson match even as a 33 year old man. Damn roman came a long way. Ones up and cenas US title late stage career period was so so good. Sami was introduced to the main roster in that.

Diruroru

it's actually so damn good

Dport

Legitimately my favorite promo of all time, I can recite a lot of it from memory lol. John Cena is untouchable on the mic. Even Tribal Chief Roman got owned by Cena in 2021.

DAVESTO - David Ausbun

Always love watching Cena verbally annihilate someone not many do it better than him. Also it probably doesn't help that I hated Roman during this era. He won me over with the bloodline but at the time I was so happy to see Cena put him in his place

Drew Or Die

Roman has come such a long way since this promo. As a former Roman hater, it felt like Cena was speaking my mind at the time, and now he looks and acts like an entirely different person.

Jay Nali

Watching this back after all these years honestly gave me some anxiety. Roman had been pushed as the absolute top guy for years at this point and the fans were just sick of it. I feel bad watching it back but at the time it was cathartic to get out some of the frustration by watching him get cooked.

Jeremy Brooks

Fun fact This is your first lesson in it probably You...do not fuck with Cena on the mic Ever

Paul Watson

"I bet he cooks him here" Famous last words They actually had another promo battle on the August 14th 2021 edition of smackdown. This was a month after WWE came back to having crowds after a year with no crowds during the pandemic. Roman doesn't get decimated like he did here. Also it was during Roman's Tribal Chief run. Right at the start of the Bloodline too. Cena cut this same type of promo with Austin Theory last year before Wrestlemania

Christopher Barnes

Kurt angle was the GM of raw during this time. Was super weird, but he got to be the third member of the shield for a match😂

Woozie

The worst part of this is that looking back 10 years later, once he gets cooking Roman does halfway decent; but Cena just responds by taking off the training wheels and giving him the worst microphone beat-down of the PG era.

prototype27

I did suggest this with tally’s reaction in mind and was waiting for that

Jakob Micheal

Kurt angle was the GM during this time

Phillyman!!
