See!

Soooo Josh you’re not going to like this, but you picked an interesting match to talk about not wanting to take a Styles clash. The Japanese announcer you heard early in the match, Yoshi Tatsu, talked briefly about how he had a broken neck. He broke his neck in November 2014, not too long before this. How? By landing on his head during a Styles Clash. Poor guy had to sit and watch this match on commentary not too long after. He didn’t add much as I believe he mostly was there to help with translations. So yeah, take the thumbtacks all day.

Heard a lot about this. Let’s see if it lives up to the hype.

NJPW is amazing. There's no weekly programming like WWE/AEW. It's a bunch of wrestling shows. Definitely worth following if you can afford it. Much more sports based.

I popped so hard when he called Finlay Zac Efron 😂 What a difference 8 years makes. Look at him now lmao

Charlie

Those shoes did look nice. So that checks out

Dport

The senior referee Unno always wears red shoes, hence the name, the others all wear white.

Nakamura's movements and whole vibe makes a lot of sense when you consider that his King Of Strong Style nickname is an homage to the King Of Pop Michael Jackson. Strong Style is the martial arts and submission based style that New Japan was originally built on in 1972.

Glad you guys like this match. - Nakamura’s finisher, “Bomaye,” means “Kill him” in the Congo language. Either NJPW has the copyright to that name, or WWE thinks it’s not PG, so they changed it to “Kinshasa,” the capital of Congo. - The staff member in red is a “Young Lion.” Like security guards in WWE, they are young wrestlers from the developmental program who will soon be on the main roster. Actually, the guy who looks like Zac Efron is the current leader of Bullet Club. - NJPW doesn’t have a weekly show. They use the “Road to” system. Basically, if they have a PLE, they will have 4-5 small shows in the week before the event to build up. “Road to” shows mostly consist of tag team matches since every wrestler in NJPW has to be in a faction, like Bullet Club or Chaos (Nakamura’s faction). This makes it easier to book tag team matches and feuds between factions. - I would say you can just watch the PLE. NJPW does not have in-ring promos, except for the main event winner, who will send the fans home. They cut promos backstage after each match to progress the story, as well as during press conferences, which can be found on YouTube with English subtitles.

Between 2018 to 2020 i was always watching njpw it was really good but lost interest in it once the elite left there and now ibushi okada white osprey it not the same njpw I loved at one time I watched multiple g1 climaxs to there great tournaments just no one there now interests me to watch it now but at one time I was really into it

Yh I recomend u to get njpw world it njpw network like the wwe network that app has all there old content and new so be good for the patreon njpw have most time monthly ppvs no tv but they have road to shows what most are tag matches and after press conferences to build to future feuds it has the scedule on the app upcoming events njpw also have annual tournaments like new japan Cup and the g1 climax where wrestlers in a block league winners go to final then winner gets title match at wrestlekingdom I say watching there monthly ppvs is how to keep up with it and maybe pick and choose what to watch on the road to shows man them.5 on 5 normal tag matches are so boring dont watch them make u go to sleep lol

New Japan is actually incredibly easy to follow as the company relies on ticket and merch revenue as their business model rather than television ad revenue. They have no TV (other than sporadic re-run shows) and can be followed even if you watch 1 or less shows per month, other than the multi-day tournaments.

AJ said in an interview “Dan The Dragon Wilson was a commentator for NWA Wildside back in 2000. For some reason, he called me The Phenomenal AJ Styles. It was given. It stuck." AJ's forearm was never his finisher until he joined WWE, which is when it was named the phenomenal forearm. Everywhere else his main finisher was the Styles Clash. The guys in red outside the ring are New Japan Young Lions (Rookies). New Japan has NJPWWorld which is their subscription service like the WWE Network. Also, New Japan doesn't have any weekly shows. They do multiple shows with multi man tag matches to set-up championship matches for their PPV style shows, and a number of tournaments throughout the year for most of their title divisions. For ex. the G1 Climax and new japan cup are different styled tournaments to earn a shot at the world title.

Anyone notice the young boys carrying AJ out at the end? thats one of the things you find with new japan, the ring crew/young boys/young lions will be around years before they become anything so when you go back you see future IWGP Champions tending to the current guys. Jay White is in this one, 2 years before he would be fighting for the IC title at Wrestle Kingdom 3 years before he would become Heavyweight Champ, 6 years before he would MAIN EVENT wrestle kingdom for both those belts.

As for Bullet Club. NJPW had a working relationship with WCW in the 90s. As a result, the "NWO-Japan" faction was created and was super popular in Japan. Bullet Club essentially became a spiritual successor to NWO-Japan. That's why they had the black and white shirts and "2-sweet" hand signal that NWO used. Ironically, many western fans didn't know this and called them NWO rip-offs.

.

Long time no see! Nakamura has been so cool for so long

Diruroru

New Japan world is 10 dollars a month and I use it to primarily watch wrestle kingdom, but there is a ton there to watch, new Japan doesn't have a live weekly show so it's easier to pay attention to without having to watch every week

KillerX316

If you're gonna do New Japan anyways Get or atleast look into WrestleUniverse It's a much cheaper option with far more Japanese promotions Besides in terms of streaming services it actually tries You'll get multiple promotions that way to keep up with what goes on But you can do either option! Up to you

Shinsuke in the tokyo dome is special man.

In the middle of the watch and about the STF Holding his cheeks with both beefy arms is not only for messing with the neck(and with enough pressure it starts to get difficult to breath especially with someone of Cena's size on you That and he's trapped the leg in a very painful position Mostly unrelated to this great match but yeah Thought I'd Explain Cena's move lol

2014-2019 was a NJPW boom period. Fueled by the Tanahashi vs. Okada feud, but also people like Nakamura. The 2015 introduction of English commentary helped NJPW gain popularity among hardcore fans in the West looking for a WWE alternative. NJPW's growth in America peaked with 16,500 tickets sold at Madison Square Garden in 2019. However, AEW was created that year and "stole their thunder" by signing much of NJPW's Western talent, creating significant tension between the two promotions during AEW's first years. COVID also impacted NJPW's financials severely, since they're primarily a ticket business, rather than TV rights. NJPW has significantly declined since 2019 even in Japan. They did start growing again during 2023 and the beginning of 2024, but Okada and Ospreay leaving was a huge blow. Matches are still good, they just don't have the star power.

.

That Bomaye (NJ for Kinshasa.) to the back of Styles head looks SO gnarly. But so cool, moves like that, where you just lean forward and go. “Wait they just straight up killed that person.” Are always super effective, at least for me.
