2025-01-27 08:34:29 +0000 UTCI know I'm still super far behind on catching up on these, but I've really been enjoying having Tally along for the watchalongs. I think wrestling as a communal experience is really great, and having someone to bounce off of you makes the energy of the reactions more fun. Granted, there's a lot less talking in the documentary episodes, but in these I think tally benefits a ton from seeing the broad strokes of wrestling history alongside you. Generally, very few downsides to watching wrestling with a group. It's a good time

2025-01-27 08:29:00 +0000 UTCOne funny point. The age of “old” Hulk Hogan when he went to WCW? 40. Randy Savage? 41. This is the approximate age of most of the WWE roster now and you could argue they are in their prime!

2024-08-31 02:03:29 +0000 UTCA lot of people said The WCW in this episode actually. It’s akin to saying The MLB. When you figure out what the letters stand for, it doesn’t make sense.

2024-08-30 07:46:46 +0000 UTCDon’t spoil big matches, just recommend them! A lot of people are watching these for the first time.

2024-08-26 14:42:38 +0000 UTCThey changed the main events around because supposedly Hogan vs Flair wasn’t doing great on the house shows.

2024-08-24 10:18:45 +0000 UTCSooo Ric Flair had a stint in the WWF around 1992, and had a cup of coffee, won the Royal Rumble, and the world title. Then, for some odd reason, at Wrestlemania 8 the main event turned out to be Hogan vs Sid Justice. Like, the 2 giants in the same promotion, Ric Flair & Hulk Hogan. That should have been the marquee.. but instead, Ric fought Randy Savage that night.. and I believe Flair never main evented a Wrestlemania after all the years.

2024-08-23 15:52:32 +0000 UTCI feel like if you ever get hooked on something or someone and you want to focus on that for a while instead of doing other stuff, that's fine with me.

2024-08-22 09:05:42 +0000 UTCMore of this series please! Happy to replace some matches with these episodes! To answer your question, CM Punk was AEW's aquisition that made me watch it regularly. He really elevated everyone around him there. It hasn't been the same since he left.

2024-08-22 04:01:22 +0000 UTCAlso I worked at Mall of America when the first Nitro was there. I was actually standing on the 3rd floor railing watching when Luger made his appearance.

2024-08-22 03:41:50 +0000 UTCAnd there has been a head to head WWE AEW competition. It was before you started watching but NXT used to air on Wed night. Notice it no longer is on the same night.
Karen
2024-08-22 03:37:46 +0000 UTCI agree with an episode every Monday night.

2024-08-22 03:30:52 +0000 UTCInteresting to see this through new eyes. I'm from the south, so naturally WCW was the first wrestling I was ever exposed to as a kid and I liked it instantly. Sting was my very first favorite wrestler. It's kinda funny how Ted Turner had so much influence on my life thinking back. I got into wrestling because of WCW airing on TBS and I'm a baseball fan because of the Braves airing there as well. It took a while for me to discover WWF, but when I did I liked it instantly too. I was very much one of those change the channel every commercial fans during the Monday Night Wars.

2024-08-22 03:02:12 +0000 UTCOh yeah I also wanted to comment this earlier but forgot I also think another reason Vince screwed Bret in the screw job was this Medusa throwing the women’s title away on WCW incident. That’s the last think Vince wanted to happen again especially with his World Championship and during the middle of the Monday night wars. Would’ve killed his company in his opinion and he couldn’t have that happen while I don’t agree with it I can see why he did it.

2024-08-22 00:18:57 +0000 UTCYou guys should do a new episode once a week, maybe every Monday. I would prefer watching one less match a week just so I could see you guys watch this series.
Chad
2024-08-22 00:12:02 +0000 UTCExactly. They could sign Bloodline, Cody, Gunther, Orton and Punk but if the booking sucks, it's not gonna be very good. Okada and Ospreay are better talents than Breakker and Carmelo yet WWE has gotten more out of Bron and Carmelo than AEW got out of Okada and Ospreay. The booking is definitely not as good as it was 3 years ago.
Chad
2024-08-22 00:10:31 +0000 UTCYeah. He doesn't hurt them, he kills them.
Chad
2024-08-22 00:08:21 +0000 UTCI agree. We gotta have them watch the rest of the series.
Chad
2024-08-22 00:07:48 +0000 UTCI second this. Maybe every Monday until it's over. We'd have one less match to watch each week but at least it would be replaced with quality content.
Chad
2024-08-22 00:06:08 +0000 UTCIf they hadn't fired Punk after the second incident, I would have made his return contingent on some form of anger management counseling. There is definitely plenty of blame to go around over this whole situation, but rehashing it over and over again is kind of pointless now.

2024-08-22 00:02:45 +0000 UTCEric Bischoff is one of my favorite non-wrestlers in the business, but I’m honestly loving your reactions every time he pops up 😂

2024-08-21 23:00:30 +0000 UTCIf AEW were to sign John Cena they would most likely have to threaten that man with a gun in order to sign with them, cause Cena is gonna stay with WWE until the day he dies. They already tried with CM Punk, they fumbled that, there fumbling Sasha Banks. Honestly im just afraid for peoples careers now if they get signed to AEW

2024-08-21 21:49:55 +0000 UTCI wouldn't mind seeing a few of these a week to get through the Monday Night War series.

2024-08-21 21:31:47 +0000 UTCI would love to see more of these its pro WWE because it was produced by WWE for sure but it still is damn entertaining.

2024-08-21 21:25:42 +0000 UTCPunk started the fights both times I don't care what they elite did the didn't start the fight it's that simple. Punk says in that interview regarding the Jack Perry situation. " I just chocked him a little" the fact he can say that and act like that not a big deal is all you really need to know. No mature adult would say something like that and that's all I'm going to say on that I don't want to turn Dporticus's comments into some giant argument

John Coffey
2024-08-21 20:32:52 +0000 UTCThe Elite brought the heads of legal and talent relations with them, acting like they came there looking for a fight is incredibly disingenuous. Punk assaulted people. Twice. No excuses for his behaviour.
Wade Kruse
2024-08-21 20:18:13 +0000 UTCLike I said Tony Khan absolutely handled it horribly. But I don't care what the other people did there is no excuse for starting fights like it's the school playground. Cm Punk could have and should have handled it much more maturely than he did is all I'm saying
Drew Or Die
2024-08-21 19:56:51 +0000 UTCYou gotta look at what caused him to do what he did. The first one The Elite went to his locker room and went in there aggressively when his wife and dog were in the room. The second time it initially started by Jack Perry cussing out employees of AEW including Doctors and Tony Schiavone, Tony Khan did nothing about it so Schiavone went to Punk to handle it. Why? Because Schiavone knew nobody in that company has the balls to talk to people like a man. So Punk went and talked to Jack. Then Jack does a class spot on All In trying to needle Punk. Punk went and talked to him as shown in the footage played on Dynamite, Jack got in his face so he choked him out a little bit. And what did Tony Khan the fearless leader do? Hid behind his monitors for the entire interaction and “feared for his life” when one of them got knocked over and Punk yelled at him.

2024-08-21 19:32:46 +0000 UTCI would really don't mind having documentary month cause this is getting interesting. Feel like it should go like a pattern, like doc, then match, doc then match.

2024-08-21 19:19:17 +0000 UTCPunk got fired for starting two separate backstage fights in AEW. Had nothing to do with people begin jealous of him and even if it did he could of choose to handle his issues in a much more mature way. Because he handled it the way he did he was fired and rightfully so there's no excuse for staring fights like that. Tony Khan obviously should have handled the situation better but lets not act like Punk isn't at fault as well

2024-08-21 19:00:35 +0000 UTCIn terms of what it would take for me to watch aew I think drew or gunther could have phenomenal heel runs in aew id have to check out

2024-08-21 18:59:48 +0000 UTCYous could do this weekly and put the documentary categories on hold.
Abs Ali
2024-08-21 18:52:44 +0000 UTCCm punk was aews biggest chance to legitimise itself. Edge mone hardys sting flair all couldn't really pull ratings but punk was the one guy that could consistently and Tony let backstage drama ruin it. For other people that could do the same I think cena roman and maybe cody are the only guys that would get that massive attention (and obviously the chance of those guys going are as close to zero as you can get).
Sam Tolan
2024-08-21 18:52:36 +0000 UTCAEW has already signed some of the biggest names in wrestling to little to no fanfare. Stings retirement was the only big legend to get a sizable house out of his retirement. Edge didn’t pop a rating before he got injured, Tony Khan had absolutely no idea what to do with the Hardy’s and stuck them on shows nobody watched/devalued their status, Mercedes Mone makes people change the channel, Ric Flair came and went as soon as they stopped endorsing his energy drink, CM Punk was driven out of the company by people who are jealous of more successful people, etc. There’s a bunch of examples of already Tony Khan hiring the biggest names in wrestling to AEW and either it doesn’t work because he can’t book or they don’t get over by themselves as drawing talents. They really haven’t found that sweet spot except for Jeff Jarrett and Billy Gunn two guys getting up there in years.
John Coffey
2024-08-21 18:44:47 +0000 UTCI don't think Hogan leaving to WCW had much to do with Vince and licensing names as Hogan was already called Hulk Hogan when he was wrestling in the territories before he ever signed with WWE.Because of that Hogan owned the rights to the name not Vince so Vince couldn't have licensed it anyway. I could be wrong but this is my understanding of it. As far as AEW doing something like signing Hogan. I don't think you can make a comparison even signing Roman wouldn't be as big of a deal in my opinion. Bringing Cm Punk out of retirement was the closest thing AEW has actually done and even that wasn't as big. Punk coming back was massive in the wrestling community but Hogan going to WCW had non wrestling fans talking about it because it was that big of a deal at the time
Drew Or Die
2024-08-21 18:42:40 +0000 UTCYea that’s the only comparison you could make. Cena 💯
Phillyman!!
2024-08-21 18:37:05 +0000 UTCThe biggest comparison to Hogan going to WCW would've been Cena signing with AEW in 2018/2019 hands down.
Brian
2024-08-21 18:28:43 +0000 UTCSo a little bit of info which WWE will not tell you in there docs but when Hogan left it was not because Vince wanted younger guys it was Vince was in a really big lawsuit with the United States Government on suspicion of supplying illegal anabolic steroids to his wrestlers so to try help Vince case all the big muscle guys like Hogan was taken off TV/Shows and replaced with smaller guys like Shawn and Bret. Dark Side Of The Ring S3 Ep 13 "The Steroid Trials" tells you more about this time would be worth a watch
RW____96
2024-08-21 18:26:44 +0000 UTCI think just watch the whole series tbh, I'd be down with it being a weekly fixture you guys do without having it go through the tally tier or suggestion thread
Mahmood Al Mardi
2024-08-21 18:25:15 +0000 UTCThe first 10 minutes don’t do a great job of explaining Vince taking over the territories but they only have a short amount of time I guess. The Superstation on WTBS was that Midnight Express vs Rock N Roll Express I sent yall thats Jim Crockett Promotions. Vince took over Georgia Championship Wrestling and turned into WWE it was either called Black Saturday or Sunday. Dark Side of the Ring made a documentary about it. One day it was Georgia Championship Wrestling and the next program the people turned it on to a different product. The ratings declined because people wanted their wrestling back. Also one thing that bugs me is when the talking heads for the docs weren’t young enough to experience this stuff as it happened I don’t think they have any value to give. Sure they can give their perspective on stuff but not commenting on like “Well when Monday Night Raw first kicked off nobody had seen anything like this” They don’t really know that for sure they’re just parroting what someone’s told em or they’ve heard repeated. A lot of promoters don’t like southern people/the accent and that’s a big shame because some of the most legendary announcers/TV personalities are from the South and just because someone has a proclivity about that part of the country and the people from there they got taken out of big positions. Imagine looking at a Jim Ross and going yeah your not that good your accent is too rasslin for us that southern accent what is that? Screw your decades of experience your outta here.
John Coffey
2024-08-21 18:13:42 +0000 UTCOnce you watch the dark side of the ring Black Saturday, you won’t feel bad for Vince McMahon because he used dirty tactics too. So he just got mad at someone turning the tables on him
Phillyman!!
2024-08-21 18:04:39 +0000 UTCTo answer your AEW question they kinda already did it in the summer of 2021. They got CM Punk to return to wrestling in August 2021 and that really legitimated them even more and two weeks later they got Adam Cole the biggest NXT star at the time and then Daniel Bryan one of the biggest stars in WWE history in the same night. Obviously the Punk thing didn’t work out and both sides fumbled that. Adam Cole has been hurt the majority of his time in AEW so far off and on, and Same with Danielson some but he’s also been the most successful in AEW out of the 3 if you want to consider he’s still in the company and active and had multiple great matches in AEW.

2024-08-21 17:48:40 +0000 UTCBecky and Seth Rollins contract was set to expire this year and if AEW would've swooped in to pick them up that could've been huge. I think seth resigned but idk if becky did or if shes considering retiring
Jayshawn Robinson
2024-08-21 17:39:00 +0000 UTCQuestion at 31:32 They’ve kinda already had that moment at All In 2021. Adam Cole made his debut which was a huge surprise bc he was rumored to get called up to Raw or SD at the time. Not even 2 minutes after that, Bryan Danielsons debut shook the wrestling world. At the time it was compared to Hogan going to WCW Edit: I miss remembered the hogan comparison. It was more like Kevin Nash and Scott Hall going to WCW https://youtu.be/MI8Jm_W7vN8?si=8gJf9jUGP_S8qhOJ

2024-08-21 17:36:30 +0000 UTCThis doc is super old now, it’s from when the network first launched a decade ago. In fact some of it is even older than that because Cena and Punk are wearing t shirts from 2011. Also, these WWE docs, as with most of them, tend to skew in favour of WWE and may not be completely accurate. So just keep that in mind. Only signing to AEW that would remotely rival Hogan to WCW is Roman but it’ll never happen. Please Josh, don’t be like Hogan and Bret Hart and call it “the WCW”. Just call it WCW. And actually Bischoff was being interviewed in the Raw arena from 2003.
