Agreed

Big Ell

Cole actually sold it well. It was Lawler and JBL doing a bad job at reacting to his debut.

Steamed Ham Champion Dillon Haggett

omg i js predicted what Crown Jewel was gonna be 3 months in advance HAHAHAHA

Izz002

Josh you’re right. What was stopping Big Show or anyone else from coming back once the ref was down? Just one of those things you have to go along with. Cole - OH MY GOD IT’S STING JBL - Former 6 WCW champion yadda yadda, reads every accolade. Can we pretend it’s a surprise next time? Haha.

Big Ell

Cody vs Gunther? Liv vs Nia? Nahhh will never happen. ;)

Big Ell

I just put a brief history in the discord. Are you there? PS it started 1987.

Big Ell

Shhh

Big Ell

I honestly think they should still do them alongside WarGames. Like this year do Priest and three partners vs Balor/Dom/JD/Carlito while the two Bloodline factions have WarGames.

Steamed Ham Champion Dillon Haggett

Either that or Ryback was Romans replacement.

Sting was also known to be a "vigilante" character who would lurk in the shadows imparting justice, especially during the nWo"s run in WCW. So him coming to help take down The Authority was pretty perfect. Once WCW folded, he expressed feeling like Vince and WWE wouldn't do right by him (he was right) so he refused to go for the money and stuck to his guns for ages, so him showing up in WWE was absolutely surreal. We also only JUST started doing the WarGames format, so I'm cool w the change for now. I'm sure they'll find a way to have these elimination style tags again at some point. I've been laughing at the idea of HHH telling Stephanie about Sting like that for 17 minutes now.

A little history of survivor Series. Survivor Series is called that because of the elimination style matches. It started out from 1988-1990 with a 5-6 match card of just 5 on 5 elimination matches just called Survivor Series matches. After that they did one Survivor Series match per year from 1991-2000 with the rest of the card being filled out with other matches that weren't the 5 on 5 elimination matches. In 2001, they changed the formula doing a WWF Vs. WCW winner takes all match that merged the companies and in 2002 following the WWE brand split they did Raw Vs. Smackdown matches from 2002-2010. After the brand split ended they did a men's and women's style Survivor Series match from 2011-2016. From 2017-2021 they made it brand warfare. Every match was Raw vs. Smackdown. Raw Vs. Smackdown Women's/Tag Team/World/Midcard champion as well as Raw Vs. Smackdown Men's, Women's and Tag Team Elimination matches. It was WWE Champion Vs. Universal Champion, Intercontinental Vs. United States Champion, Raw Vs. Smackdown Women's Champion, and Raw Vs. Smackdown Tag Team Champion with the addition of those 5 on 5 mens and womens elimination matches as well as a 10 on 10 tag team division elimination match. In 2019, they added NXT to the formula. It wasn't until 2022 when Triple H decided to add War Games to Survivor Series and ditch brand supremacy.

Chad

I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be.

Chad

I wondered how his title run would have been if Jack Swagger didn't give him a concussion.

Christopher Barnes

And before NXT, you have to go all the way back to WCW for the last War Games Match

Christopher Barnes

WarGames was also an NXT Takeover event from 2017 to 2021 that took place either the night before Survivor Series or around the same time (I think 2020 and 2021 took place in December).

Steamed Ham Champion Dillon Haggett

Hoo boy this is a longen. But I love Survivor Series Tag Matches. i remember someone on Facebook saying “Stinge not debuting don’t be stupid. If he does I’ll buy everyone something.” Never saw that persons name again lol. Two things I dislike about Stings debut is JBL blabbing on about his credentials and how long Triple H sells one kick to the gut.

Steamed Ham Champion Dillon Haggett

Nah just let em eliminate before everyone has entered. Like the chamber

Dport

Lol if you want a near 2 hour match then all means🤣

WWE Jay Gaming

They don't need to but I WANT it lol

Dport

They dont really need to make war games elimination, they should just make it a rare match like the hell in a cell once was. If the 2 teams have a brutal intense rivalry then thats the year they should put in war games but if the 2 teams build up the rivalry like a normal feud then it should be the normal 5 on 5 elimination.

WWE Jay Gaming

Facts. That was fire. They should just make war games be elimination style

Dport

Honestly i really miss these 5 on 5 elimination matches. WWE should make War Games a rare thing for survivor series and still keep doing 5 on 5 eliminated matches every year. When the rivalry gets very intense then it would make sense to do War Games

WWE Jay Gaming

The champion vs champion thing was only recent for a few years until they added War Games. They would still have the traditional Survivor Series Tag Team match, but most of the matches in old Survivor Series shows just had feuds that were happing from each shows.

Christopher Barnes

Sting coming to WWE and The Authority getting their comeuppance was a good moment, but it is also a huge example of Vince’s moments over story style of booking. The Authority was only out of power for a few weeks which completely nullified team Cena’s victory.

Ryan Redd

Survivor Series only added the Wargames stipulation in 2022, before that they were traditional 5v5 elimination matches. Before WarGames, if there was a brand split, they sometimes compete for brand supremacy, with all or most of the matches being Raw vs Smackdown matches. Typically, the champions of each brand will face off against each other as well, so Raw vs SD women's/tag/World champions. (eg. Gunther vs Cody Rhodes, Nia Jax vs Liv, if they still did this) At the end of the ppv, the brand with the most wins being the more supreme brand. 2019 was the only year they added NXT in, so they became 5v5v5 elimination matches, as well as Raw vs SD vs NXT champions matches.

Izz002

He never ever should’ve lost that match at mania though.

Kam

To be fair he only had two matches because he got injured in the match with Seth

Charlie

This was Sting's first appearance ever in WWE. When WCW was bought in 2001, most big talent came over to WWE, Sting being one of the exceptions. (Not sure if there are other notable examples)

Kriba

They dropped the ball with him multiple times when he had momentum. Vince just didn't see him at that level i guess

Kriba

Glad you enjoyed it!!! Sting was one of WCW’s (WWE’s competition) biggest babyfaces all throughout the 90s and was one of the only top guys to not go over to WWE once WCW ended. He ended up in TNA for a long time and people always wondered why he never went to WWE. This was his first time so it was pretty shocking. Unfortunately he only had 2 matches in WWE and his time there was fumbled big time but this was still a cool moment nonetheless.

Kam

This was Sting’s long awaited debut in the WWE. So for him to face off with Triple H was huge.

Dak4life

Rowan was eliminated, and then Cena was the first one to get in the ring, so he became legal. He got eliminated while Big Show was still in the ring, so Big Show became the legal man, he then walked off and I guess lost by forfeit.

Charlie

War Games was originally an NWA/WCW match type in the late 80s and 90s (created by Dusty Rhodes), then became an NXT thing in 2017 until 2022 when it changed to a Survivor Series thing. But before that Survivor Series usually had at least one of these elimination tag matches (with a few exceptions here and there) and the first 3 Survivor Series' being a 4 or 5 match card of only elimination tag matches.

Dylan Thomas Banks

Seth would actually cash in that briefcase in the mania main event the next year, making him only 1 of 2 to cash in at Mania with the other being Damian Priest

Matthew Harvey

I’m not sure that it was ever confirmed, but I’m pretty sure that the Dolph Ziggler spot was meant to be Roman’s. He had been out with a hernia injury for about two months and wouldn’t be back for another month after this.

Oscar Islas

They should’ve pushed Dolph to the moon after this.
