Yeah this description should be changed to Forbidden Door if possible. People complain about AEW not having stories but if they do try to interject a story, like screwdriver usage or something, the match somehow gets worse. Let these high caliber wrestlers wrestle, especially on the main event of a PPV! Ending was good, Will was 18-0 in AEW up to that point so you weren’t exactly sure if we were going to crown a new champion or not.

2024-10-08 16:25:16 +0000 UTCIn addition to other comments, the Forbidden Door cards are typically 90-100% AEW vs NJPW or at least matches with wrestlers from both companies. But they have the additional title matches like this one with AEW vs AEW, when it makes more sense for their story structure and Will vs Swerve had the big momentum. It also worked because Will was a NJPW wrestler for many years and just signed a contract with AEW so he "felt" like a NJPW guy on this card who wanted to challenge the big AEW name on this show.

2024-07-26 19:22:42 +0000 UTCThe reason why Swerve went over to console Will after the match is because they have been long time friends, so he's showing respect after everything they went through. But when this match was made, while Swerve was happy to face someone he respects a lot, he was unsure if Will deserved it. Swerve gained a "killer instinct" as he called it, in order to get to the world title, but he doesn't see that instinct in Will. So he got under his skin in the weeks leading up, and showed him brutality in the match, because he knew it would take Will to the next level. Will would jab back at him in promos, up the ante in the match. That screwdriver spot is like, how far is he willing to go to prove it? Can he get that "killer instinct" on his own? Or will he continue to be corrupted by Don Callis (guy who gave the screwdriver to him) as they have teased before?

When Swerve won allot of people said he was only holding it until Will Osprey could win it All in. Well apparently that pissed Osprey off as he believed Swerve didn't deserve all the hate so he suggested this match to Tony Khan and I think they did pretty good job shutting everyone up.
