This TRANSPARENT ENGINE is Fascinating (How Engines Work) - Smarter Every Day 292

I saw Brian's engine online and I really wanted to see what was going on with it... and more importantly, I wanted to meet the man that made it.  Using your support, I flew out to Nebraska and met Brian King, who runs the YouTube channel AwdCutlass.  Brian is an EXTREMELY interesting person, and having him walk me through how this engine works make everything in my head *click* into place in terms of how engines work. I hope you enjoy this video, because it was EXTREMELY helpful. I now feel like I understand how an LS engine works on a completely different level!

Seeing Brian's Transparent Engine helped me understand engines at a whole new level. I genuinely made the trip to Nebraska because I want more people to see the amazing work he's done.

You  have found enough value in Smarter Every Day to actually support on Patreon... which is an incredible honor and frankly very humbling. As you know, I work with sponsors from time to time I consider working with sponsors. Because of the stability you bring on Patreon, I've been able to say no to MANY sponsors that I'm not aligned with for whatever reason.  Thank you for giving me the honor of having that choice. If you're thinking about gifts for Christmas, considering a Ridge Wallet supports Smarter Every Day as well. (https://ridge.com/smarter) but I have a question for you.  Ridge has agreed to do 2 more ads with Smarter Every Day after this one, and they've asked me if I'm interested in doing some sort of Custom wallet.  Think about some kind of graphic design on the wallet itself.  If I were to do that, is there a cool idea that you think would be worth doing?  I would prefer not to do it unless it is awesome and genuinely something I'd like to use every day.

Again, thank you SO MUCH for your support.  The yearly stickers are going to be coming out soon!

Regards,

Destin

Destin, did you happen to get a Runza while you were in Nebraska? It's a Nebraska staple!

Kacey Christiansen

Destin, I hope you enjoyed Norfolk. I grew up in a small town 10miles west of there and Norfolk is just like home. I hope Nebraska treated you well! Fantastic video!

Kacey Christiansen

I shared this with my brother-in-law, a retired industrial arts teacher, and his question is "WHERE WAS YOUTUBE AND THIS VIDEO WHEN I WAS TEACHING SMALL ENGINES".

David Glover

Super late to commenting but I've noticed a trend with SED and I think calling it out is worthwhile. Destin and his team seem to be going out of their way to lift others up and that should be recognized. Makes me proud to be a Patreon. I've really appreciated the focus on trade skills. These are jobs people should be proud of and we need to train more folks into them.

Brad Hallisey

No planned obsolescence? What sort of business are they running!?

Brad Hallisey

What a cool project! Brian's got a brain for sure! You always do so well highlighting others.

Greg Strike

I think the toroidal collission on the Ridge wallet would be REALLY cool. Especially with the little rings coming off of it. I haven't seen any decals or drawings of it and I think that's a shame: it's very pretty

The Cutlass dashboard looked interesting and unique. Would be nice to see a follow up featuring the Cutlass interior.

Rick Gonzales

I'd love a SED Ridge Wallet...but I only recently just got one! But given the potential design options I'd likely be swayed into a new one!

Makena

I'd definitely buy an SED Ridge wallet (as long as you get a cut!). You need something simple as I guess they would engrave it, maybe a frame of film with the JWST logo in it like the stickers from last year, and a small SED logo in the corner.

Matt Lindley

Coming from a car-less family, you two just tought me how an engine as a full system works. Thank you.

Lars Sturm

You should reach out to Steve morris at Steve Morris engines! That guy will take you a level deeper and melt your brain

Iain Deas

I'm with Mike McRoberts; the Smarter Every Day Supersonic Baseball Team sticker design is awesome, and would look great on a wallet too.

Erin Eldridge

Very cool; thanks

I love the dual V-8 Cutlass. I drove a standard Cutlass in high school and remember reading about a Toronado that someone converted to dual engines. I was jealous. I feel that the electrical power systems on electric vehicles would be worth a show. I was talking to an electric vehicle engineer recently, and was surprised to learn that the drive motors are relatively high-voltage 3-phase AC. Tesla and others use a modular system that stacks battery packs in series to create high voltage DC to power a 3-phase inverter to drive the motors, but uses a low-voltage parallel organization when charging, in order to increase the charging current and speed. Meanwhile the computer and other systems, (lights, instruments, power windows and locks, etc.) use 12V DC.

Another great video Destin, if not the greatest. Having fun while getting inspired is the best way to motivate people. i am sure Brians's videos will go viral when this gets aired. At the end of your video you mention making stickers, which I will get for sure, but it would be awesome if you had button's to. I would stick it on my flight bag, making my bag stand out against the other's and hopefully, at the same time, inspire others to get smarter every day. Thanks. Bastiaan from Amsterdam

B. Hijmering

Awesome video! I think it would be cool to have a Prince Rupert's Drop design on the wallet. Maybe a design that looks like how a Drop looks like through the polariscope?

Tor Park

This would let you 'show' the wallet (and SED) to others, build subscribers, and it'd be neat conversation piece.

Derek Alfonso

I'd like to see the JWST blueprint design on the wallet with a tactfully placed SED logo and small QR code that goes directly to the latest video on the wallet 😎💪

Derek Alfonso

As always, amazing video. Aside from being an amazing teaching tool, you touched on something that's important to me in your video and that is with everything going on in the world today, it's easy to forget this country (and world) is full of good people doing great things, and we can learn lots from each other!!

Steve Jones

great video, and thanks for bringing attention to his channel, I had a quick look and he has some very interesting stuff on there :)

Frans Wilbrink

Oh my gosh you should see if you can help him figure this out. https://youtu.be/VYM7M0Zh1v4?si=OylRKSZfXkqyWa2c

Sean Leach

The baseball collision would make a great design for the ridge wallet

Mike McRoberts

Regarding the wallet: what I am in need of is a new passport cover. Think you could talk Ridge into something like that?

J Welch

I maybe a minority, but I think there’s some humor in your “not a key” graphic (from smarter everyday 288) as a wallet face

Drake

Haha, that's kind of my situation as well! Mine is holding up VERY well.

Smarter Every Day

I was thinking about showing the bullet impact on the wallet itself.

Smarter Every Day

I've been using a Ridge wallet for many years now. To their detriment, it is holding up very well. I would replace it with another one in a minute if needed. But this one is still in great shape with a well-used patina. I'd consider purchasing a tastefully done S.E.D. version as an upgrade.

Robert Sanges

For the Ridge, I’d imagine the standard would be the Smarter Every Day logo. If that feels down the middle, maybe place the logo so the brain is in the negative space people push to eject cards?

Jared Lewis

For the ridge wallet, we need a custom bullet collision design. Or maybe the iconic blueprint animation background.

Was a great video! Loved his doorbell
