This one is special

My Dad helped build the James Webb Space Telescope's sunshield. He's has one of the best minds I know and I'm very fortunate to have such a great teacher as my father.  I'm grateful for all he's taught me through the years and I'm very proud of him for many reasons.  Many thanks to the many thousands of people who have done incredible work like Dad to make the JWST possible!

Regards,

Destin

Hey, it's a little late, but it would be super cool to see you talk about the Hemispherical Resonator Gyroscopes that the Webb uses. They are super cool IMHO

This episode was special to me. My father in law was an aerospace engineer, and his last job was doing stress analysis for the solar panels on the international space station. Watching this brought back fond memories of him.

I was smiling the whole time I watched that. Your Dad is such a joyful, smart, humble man. I always enjoy listening to him.

Super cool, thanks Destin! Several times I thought "Wow, I _really_ hope no one trips over near that thing" - thankfully no one did.

Destin, you absolutely win for best 'went to work with Dad' story! I thought I had a good one, but wow. Plus extra points for patience - keeping it under your cap until JWST was safely at L2.

I waited to watch this until I was sure I had the time to devote to it. It was really cool to learn about the measuring process and why it's important. It's something I had never thought of before. By the end, I also really felt how this video was important to you and your dad. Really cool stuff. I can't wait to see what the JWT discovers!

Thanks so much for this video, Destin. I'm one of the thousands of ordinary people supporting the X-59 aircraft, and I feel a little like your dad. I'm proud of the work my team has done, and hoping that everything goes well so that we can watch our baby fly for the first time late this year. Give your dad my best wishes.

This telescope will definitely change everyone's perspective of our universe. Honestly such a touching video. Happy to be part of the journey!

This was one of your best videos, and I have so many thoughts. The explanation about the sun shield radiating away heat generated by the instruments and not just reflecting sunlight was a ah-hah moment for me. Also, there were a few moments when I had to focus really hard to tell you and your dad apart when I could only see a couple inches of face, which I thought was funny. You got to stand in the middle of the JWST - how awesome is that?

Dear Destin. We also like your dad :) Keep up the good work!

This was fantastic in too many ways. I loved to see you and your dad together. I learned so much. I had wondered how so much of that precise measurements are done. I have been doing matrix transformations for so long. It was good to see how and why they can be so important. I build rockets as part of my job. Seeing how satellites are done was eye opening. Keep it up!

The telescope is a very exciting instrument to bring us some very old information. For me the most fascinating part was the relationship between you and your dad. The most shocking part was that on this extremely delicate measurement system they were using inches.
