Slow Motion Weed Eater
Added 2020-05-31 15:41:47 +0000 UTC
This one was a lot of fun to make! Ever since the lawn mower video I've been wanting to do this, and I've been working on it all week.
I know the world is a bit crazy at the moment. I wish you and your family peace and love. Spread the love and help others where you can. Look for the positive stories of people coming together in unity and try to amplify them. There's a lot of disinformation at the moment so if you recall what we learned together in the social media disinformation series, think twice before you share something!
Thank you for your support! You bring stability to my family's life. My goal is to be a light during this time.
Warm Regards,
Destin
Awesome video dude. Any chance we can get a followup on the disinformation video you did a while back now that we have so much conflicting news around #BlackLivesMatter?

You got me with the fine print! :D As a fellow weed wacker I respect your curiosity.

Will be interesting to see what you come up with for the performance on different shapes of weed eater lines. I know another channel called Project Farm did some testing on that as well

I have to say that you've gotten really good at the sound editing and foley for slow mo. Also, if watching grass grow is the definition of boring, it makes a weird sort of sense that watching it get cut would be entertaining.

I wonder what hands holding the weed eater would look like in slow motion? Hands tend to get numb. Can you see them weeble woobling all over?
I'm also curious if the exhaust from a single cylinder engine like this is really a constant stream or in slow motion can you see each puff?
The vibration of the engine.
The patterns in the fuel induced by the vibration.
Weed Eater + Slow Motion is AMAZING!

First video since becoming a Patron. Made me sit and watch some of the older videos. Thanks for doing what you do, Destin!

For Round 2, you can come do my yard... LOL. Great video as always. Thanks!!

I have a feeling I will forever think of this video as I spend my hours behind a trimmer mowing down weeds. I would really love to see the slow motion footage of the line whittling away weed stalks that are as thick as your finger.

My wife couldn't resist the temptation of pausing the video and going back to read the whole paragraph. I've been subscribed to your channel for a while but somehow wasn't a patron but now here we are! Thanks for your always top-notch videos, we watch them together and are always in awe of what you do!!

You might surprised to know that Weedwacker is a trademark, and Weed Eater is the generic term. It's like Kleenex vs. facial tissue.

Clever man with your tricky paragraph... *shakes fist in admiration*. They're called Weed Whackers by the way ;)

I was doing lawn care for 6 years and hated fences, now i know why. This was an awesome video! Thank you Destin

It’s a trade off. I certainly studied these things, but it could be a 2 hour video (which I don’t have time to edit).

I like them a lot. They’re priced just right so you don’t get super angry at yourself if you lose them... but they are still high quality.

I spent a couple of summers mowing and trimming for the school district, and I always wanted to see this in slow motion. So thank you! We always used this pretty stiff twisted line (Vortex I think it was called) that tended to break off in longer chunks (1-3 in.), which might be interesting to see.
Another thought: I feel like there's an optimal distance between trimmer head and fence for breaking the line. I'll be interested to see how you control that variable in your tests. Buena suerte!

Enjoyed watching you weed-eat instead of doing it myself like I should be doing.. :-) FINALLY ordered some of those earbuds with your discount code.. Been on the fence for a while but decided to pull the trigger!

Hm honestly I think you misses out on some interesting parts here. You graced over some facts but I don't feel crazy informed now. Like on the stubbier grass, you couldn't really see anything because you mowed on the very top which means it lacks some inertia and thus breaks quite differently. Also it doesn't make a good comparison to the blade grass, which I had hoped for. I liked the wrap around the steel bar though. Then you talked about going from left to right or vice versa. But that got no more attention although I feel this would have been interesting if it interacts with the grass differently based on the direction. Sorry if I'm critical here but I don't feel like this was one of your stronger ones.

Nice job on the 'slow mo' audio. Sounds great, and I DO know how difficult it is.

Destin also got me with the paragraph. Interestingly, I was just yesterday trying to explain to my 10 year old son a weed eater. The day before at the store I was pondering the design trades of weed eater line cross-section.

Interesting vid. The Grass Rights group will be on ya for grass abuse. :-) How about stranded steel line? I see that for sale but can just imagine bits of steel wire sticking out of your leg like you got hit by a mad, armor-plated porcupine. No doubt the line would last longer but I don't know about the operator?!

Ok, so now that I read the secret paragraph, was already subscribed, and am already supporting on Patreon, where's the secret second paragraph that teaches me the easy way of learning Lagrangian mechanics?

Great Video! I've been low-key hoping for this one ever since the lawnmower video.
