BIGGER BULLET BEATS Prince Rupert's Drop? (at 223,000 FPS) - Smarter Every Day 170

Comments

So what would happen with a spherical molten glass ball cooled in water? Would it be less likely to shatter?

Hmmmmm

Awesome video, Destin! So does that mean that a Prince Rupert's Drop has a weakness for piercing, or is it the increase in velocity? I'm guessing it's both, but I do wonder... The blunt bullets from the magnums mean that the process of friction in the impact aren't enough, at least at those speeds and before the bullet fell apart. I wonder what kind of temperatures occur at the point of impact. Maybe the pointed edge allowed just a little more friction heating and stress to the structure of the Prince Rupert's Drop to cause it to fail before the bullet disitegrated.

This was hilariously adorable, from the moment where you realized... Oh... um yeah well the science was easy... bigger works. So let's talk about magic sugar light! Great redirection and the letter with the new shirt is awesome. I thinking about getting that shirt.

As we know from the venerable Box o' Truth (<a href="https://www.theboxotruth.com/tag/original-chapters/):" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.theboxotruth.com/tag/original-chapters/):</a> Pistols are Pistols and Rifles are Rifles. One last interesting thing to try with the Prince Rupert's Drop is how extremely hard substances affect it with very low impact energies. An easy source is fractured ceramic shards from spark plugs (often referred to as 'Ninja Rocks') that are well known to be able to shatter sheets of tempered glass when thrown by hand.

Destin, I really like the way you do slow motion, playing it a second time right after the first time, but even slower. Many times on YouTube people just show it once at 30fps and move on. I always have to rewind to rewatch it. Are these new shirts as incredibly soft as the previous ones?
