The Firearm Rules | Adept PDF

In the nation of progress, a new kind of weapon has been invented. It uses an explosive substance called black powder to propel a projectile over long distances, shredding through flesh and armor with terrifying ease. This is the firearm.

I've always loved playing around with asymmetry in my world and my mechanics. So, I eventually compiled a ruleset for my players to use firearms in my games. These are those rules!

You'll notice the firearms are POWERFUL, if you're a player looking to use them in your game I recommend clearing it with your DM. If you're a DM, I reccomend throwing caution to the wind and letting your players play around with guns in D&D... provided you're planning on shooting at them with guns yourself.

Let me know if this is interesting to you folks, I've got a whole backlog of stuff I'd be happy to dust off and share with you all if you think it's interesting or useful!

These rules were created by long time design and writing collaborators: Daði & Magnús.

UPDATE: We've just updated the PDF to set it up in the new layout! The core rules haven't changed, merely presented in a more digestible way!

Question: how do you balance these weapons for low level play? I think I recall a video where you said firearms your setting are purposefully powerful but I'm currently running a campaign with level 2 characters and struggle to see how my artificer equipped with one of these firearms would not be particularly OP over the other players?

Is there something in the water because you've been knocking theses out at an impressive rate. Very high quality.

Oliver Tormey

Yep, once I've updated this PDF with the new layout (coming very soon!)

Will there be a version with .md?

Yeah, we get asked this frequently; let me explain! You've got to take a closer look at the weapon properties. Reading the Reload property, you'd see it requires an ACTION to replacing an attack to reload it. A loading property doesn't; loading means you can fire only once per round! If you're a rogue for instance, loading is probably better than reload. If you're a fifth level fighter with two attacks, the difference is much smaller.

Heya, love the channel and subbed to get these rules - they seem great but I’m confused by the Kalterlock upgrade. It says “You upgrade a weapon with the reload 1 property to instead be loading.” At the risk of sounding dumb… what does that mean 😅 I’m thinking about the Loading property crossbows have, but how is that an upgrade ? I’m assuming I’m missing something

I just ran a one-shot yesterday using these rules and my players loved it! Thank you very so much for sharing them :)

This is so good, planning on using this for my next artificer build

Love this but I don't know if it will fit in my current game..... I guess we'll wait and see
