Hey Patrons,
A busy month at Noclip continues as we wrap up on Telltale, prepare Hades episode #03 and get some more of those GDC interviews out.
But it's not just editing work that's being done over here - we're deep in pre-production on our E3 project. In the video above I give a little outline as to what we're doing there, and ask for your feedback on what you'd like to see in the piece.
E3 is basically Christmas for folks who love video game news, but sadly most folks don't have the opportunity to addend themselves. So we want to tear open the doors of E3 and let you see how it all goes down. From the way the press works that week, to how exhibitors prepare for the week to how attendees with tickets experience the show.
So as prepare for a busy week of filming in Los Angelees we want to know what you'd like to see in the doc? What personalities should we interview? Which games should we attend the demo of? What attending outlet or studio do you want to learn more about?
Whatever it is we want to hear it. So check out the video above and get your ideas in the comments below!
Thanks so much - this one is gonna be a lot of fun!
Danny

An interview with Andy McNamara would be great. But I agree with what another guy said, focus on devs/people who live in hard to reach places for you, make use of the opportunity of having everyone gathered in one place. Also indies! Lots of indies.

2019-06-01 16:01:27 +0000 UTCI would love to see some behind the scenes of the conferences. Given that each year less and less companies are doing live stage shows I fear we may never get to see what goes in to planning and executing such an event. I understand it'd be impossible to cover the planning aspect as that would have started months ago but some backstage coverage during one of the conferences would be amazing. Interviewing people briefly after they complete their sections, following around the coordinators etc. Maybe this wouldn't be possible this year but it is the biggest thing about the E3 sceptical that I've always wanted to see.

2019-05-14 20:52:00 +0000 UTCPicking people to interview who you know have good stories but who you cant reasonable spend the travel money to hear them out is what i'd want, making use of the fact that everyone is gathered here.

2019-05-13 06:22:31 +0000 UTCIf you can manage to nab Phil Spencer (he seems very willing to work with outlets like NoClip - maybe piggyback off his GB appearance?) he would be a hell of an interview.

2019-05-12 13:59:48 +0000 UTCI’d love to see that opening scene from “Battle for Winterfell” recreated at E3. The anticipation, the final preparation across the floor, the anxiety ahead of the onslaught of the white walkers...I mean attendees. It would also be fun to hear from smaller studios that have to present on stage at say Xbox stage - how did it feel, how did they prep for the demo, etc. Giving them a camera to follow through their day would be fun as well because I assume they have to run non stop between media booth demonstrating the game

2019-05-11 18:16:52 +0000 UTCI'd like to learn about smaller studios exhibiting there. The big players are usually in the spotlight and are getting all the media attention. So maybe let those small players tell their stories. What are they showing there, how do they feel about E3 and so on. Another nice thing would be a doc about the future of E3. Other Patrons have pointed it out already: more and more heavyweights are ignoring the show all together or are putting up external counter shows. How are industry people seeing the future of game announcements and hands on events.

2019-05-11 17:46:20 +0000 UTCI'd be interested in hearing from developers and publishers how the planning and preparation for their E3 appearances work. How far in advance do they decide what to show, how much time and work is invested into creating demos/trailers for E3, what steps are made on the way, how many last second changes are made, etc. It would also be interesting to learn how different that is for a big publisher or console manufacturer in comparison to a smaller publisher or developer.

2019-05-11 12:41:55 +0000 UTCJust lots of behind the scene stuff please.

2019-05-11 05:27:39 +0000 UTCAs a lot of companies are abandoning E3 this year I'd like to understand the costs involved for a company to display and showcase their work and 'how it's changed' for them over the years. Maybe some behind the scenes with the organisers themselves on the troubles involved in running the show.
2019-05-10 12:00:19 +0000 UTCI would love to see the BTS of a few of the conferences while they are on and the planning behind the conference.
2019-05-10 02:08:35 +0000 UTCAll I want is Homer Rabara (?) back at E3!

2019-05-10 00:56:57 +0000 UTCAnything about Devolver Digital, Bethesda/Zenimax, and CD Projek Red would be interesting to see. I know it's gonna be a sparse E3 with no EA or Sony conference

2019-05-09 22:52:37 +0000 UTCI'd love to know some attendees opinions on how the event is different now that it's open to the public!

2019-05-09 21:25:33 +0000 UTCSounds great, I'd also love to hear from them if they are gamers themselves

2019-05-09 20:55:57 +0000 UTCI'm interested to hear what the organisers think of the events companies set up around E3 without actually being at E3, or only in a minimal way.

2019-05-09 20:08:41 +0000 UTCHi Danny! I would LOVE to see and hear more about Ori and the Will of the Wisps (Moon Studios) and Subnautica: Below Zero (Unknown Worlds Entertainment) and the people behind the games. Both are sequels of relatively new indie (Ori with Microsoft backing) franchises that are very popular and were wildly successful. I would love to hear more from the devs (full documentaries about these two games might be too much to ask). I'm very interested in their style of making their respective games - as Ori and the Will of the Wisps is being developed a bit more behind closed doors while Subnautica: Below Zero is being worked on in public with their open development and early access approach (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkjY_R7zQsM&t=1s)." rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkjY_R7zQsM&t=1s).</a> Maybe you can look into their remote development styles - both studios don’t have an actual big office space as many if not most of their teams are spread around the world and collaborate remotely, which fascinates me. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to request content! I hope you guys have an awesome time at E3. Can’t wait for all the new content! :)

2019-05-09 19:02:46 +0000 UTCIt'd be so cool to hear about the trials and tribulations of doing the big beautiful press events! There's a lot of stagecraft and magic that go into those, it'd be great to learn more about how they come to be, what devs think of them, what execs think of them, etc.!

2019-05-09 18:44:11 +0000 UTCI'm still fascinated but the whole cross play movement that's happening. It's a huge change for the industry that potentially affects a ton of games, but we haven't heard anything since the wargroove story about Sony playing favorites that made the rounds back in January. I want to hear from devs who are trying to get cross play approved for their games and if Sony is really putting up roadblocks like we've been hearing.

2019-05-09 18:29:54 +0000 UTCI'd like to see some stuff about how they plan to evolve E3 in light of these big companies dropping out. And as always I'm hoping you guys have something coming on Hello Games. ;-)

2019-05-09 18:21:24 +0000 UTCIm a dev, the moment a game gets announced from the perspective of the devs in-house when theyre not attending E3 is something which nobody sees. The pride, nervousness and excitement which is in the room where everyone is with their beers is something you should try and capture, if not this year; then next. RE the actual event though, asking devs questions about the importance of E3 and what they think should be different. No offence to press, but im a little tired of hearing about press complain about E3 and why the ship is sinking, we should hear more from developers on the matter.

2019-05-09 17:53:12 +0000 UTCGood call. My answer to that is that usually, they stuff the front few rows with super fans and/or members of the studio so that it comes across as super hyped on the stream.

2019-05-09 17:48:20 +0000 UTCI’d love to see what/how Raw Fury shows up!

2019-05-09 17:47:31 +0000 UTCGlad to hear you'll be there! Honestly, I keep the social engagements to a minimum at events because rest is so important between the hectic days. I never even did parties when I worked at GameSpot, I'd just head back to my room to relax and prepare. These days I rent a house away from downtown so that we can "leave" the work part of town and relax. So let me see if we can swing it , but I wouldn't hold your breath :) Hope you have a great show!

2019-05-09 17:47:10 +0000 UTCIt’d also be neat to see the spin-offs or outside edges of E3. Like what Devolver does nearby, or, what other small or off- beat presentations are happening around E3, but not necessarily in the main venue proper.
Dorian Young
2019-05-09 17:46:59 +0000 UTCNo, this is awesome and super helpful. Thanks for sharing, there's a bunch of great ideas in there. We should totally try and bump into Hugo and Marty if we get the chance! :)

2019-05-09 17:45:02 +0000 UTCIt’d be cool to get some perspective/insight on E3 Judges Week. How the judges are chosen, what’s the layout/process of how they experience the submissions etc.
Dorian Young
2019-05-09 17:45:01 +0000 UTCgood idea, we'll definitely swing by and check in with Radek and crew.

2019-05-09 17:43:49 +0000 UTCFor the Press angle, would love to see you chat with anyone from Kotaku or Waypoint/Vice about their approach to the event.

2019-05-09 17:22:25 +0000 UTCI've always want to hear more from the Hitman devs; how they think up of the crazy shit and levels they create, how they straddle the line between self serious and comical and what makes 47 such fun character. But also if you could yell at Mike Bithell in a busy hallway how he wound up with the John Wick IP that'd be much appreciated too!
2019-05-09 16:53:19 +0000 UTCHi Danny, do people really get as excited as they seem for the big stage showcases? Maybe it's just a reserved Irish thing but when you see people going crazy and clapping for really insignificant things it makes me wonder how sincere it is. Are people told when to be excited and warned before they go in? That's an angle I'd be interested in anyway, and I don't think I've seen it covered before.

2019-05-09 16:46:38 +0000 UTCHey Danny! Apologies to start, because I have the feeling this comment/answer is going to be wwwwaaaayyyy too long, so please feel free to ignore most/all of this as you see if. To go in the order of your questions: Personalities: While for old times' sake if you went and bothered the crew at Kinda Funny, I would get a big kick out of that personally, but I think it would be awesome (as you've said in the video above) to pull anyone who wants/has time to chat with you. Easy Allies, Giant Bomb, Geoff Keighley, and other groups on the media/enthusiast side and (if possible) Phil Spencer, Pete Hines, and any public presence from the big company side. Basically anyone willing would be great! Game demos: This one is a little harder because there is the potential of having really interesting games that we (public, non-industry, etc.) won't be aware of. That said, there are four things that jump to mind: 1.) Checking in with CD Projekt Red. Anything CDPR can talk about in regards to CyberPunk to NoClip would be awesome. 2.) DOOM: Eternal. A follow up to one of the first big projects by NoClip with friends from id would be excellent. 3.) Anyone at Xbox to comment on being the "biggest" presence with Sony absent. Bonus points to them if they decide to talk about their next gen system. 4.) Anyone from Square-Enix IF IF IF IF IF they're bringing the likes of the Avengers Project or the Final Fantasy VII: Remake. Or, conversely, talking with someone about the expectation of them talking about them in the event neither project will make an appearance. Outlet/Studio learning more about: While they're a relatively big name, I don't feel like enough has been done on the Coalition, the studio in charge of Gears of War. And in the same Xbox mindset, learning more about Moon Studios, the team behind the Ori franchise going from 12 people working around the globe on the first to 50+ on the coming sequel is a great story in itself. I think that's everything. Again, sorry for the long comment. Regardless of what you are able and choose to document, I am VERY excited for this project and can't wait to see the final result. Have an awesome rest of your day to you and the entire NoClip team!
