Our Documentary on Telltale Games (Trailer)

YOUTUBE LINK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBDmsUh7ATs

Hey folks.

I'm delighted to finally show you something we've been working on from as early as last year, but before you watch the trailer I want to give you some background.

The moment Telltale Games shut down we were inundated with requests to create something about the history of the studio and the games they made. But honestly, doing a pure retrospective felt a little like scavenging a carcass to me. The reality is that the closure of Telltale, the way it happened and how it impacted the lives of the employees, is emblematic of a wider issue that is facing the industry. An issue that we at Noclip have a duty to confront in our work.

This documentary focuses on the culture of Telltale, how the games were made, and the fallout of the studios closure. In it we attempt to give a human face to an important issue, while still celebrating the creative talents of the people who worked there. During our interviews we heard stories about the strong community bond at the studio, the culture of creativity, and the many talented developers who worked on their trademark brand of interactive stories. As the trailer suggests we are focusing on the human experience of being a creative at Telltale and the empty space that has been left in our industry since the studio was closed.

Getting people to talk to us on camera was a months long endeavor. I want to give a special thanks to my GameSpot colleague of days past and former Telltale employee Scott Butterworth who was instrumental in getting interviewees on board. Many people turned us down either for fear of being blacklisted, a general distrust of the media, or because they simply had nothing to gain and a lot to lose. I respect and understand that hesitance, and as a result are even more grateful to the handful of people who were brave enough to talk to us in front a lens. We were in contact with a selection of developers and in the end focused on four individuals who were there until the very end. Four perspectives across a wide range of disciplines and tenures who were able to paint us a vivid picture of life at Telltale Games.

The full documentary will be available to watch around the end of May. We look forward to sharing it with you and celebrating the craft and passion that Telltale gave our industry.

If you have any questions feel free to stick them in the comments below.

As ever, thanks to our Patrons for supporting our work and allowing us to tell these stories.
