Surprise!
Last week myself and Esteban flew to Chicago for a day to do some interviews with the folks at NetherRealm Studios. Officially it was a press & influencer event, but we basically used it as an excuse to record a few interviews with three members of the team off to the side. I'm using this as a test bed for piggybacking on future preview events to record punchier videos in between our larger docs. In terms of production costs, this sort of stuff might prove worthwhile because the amount of time to edit videos like this is so minimal. The video above took me a day to cut. A DAY!
This is the first of two videos on MK11 landing this week. The other is longer at around 10 minutes and focuses on the intricacies of designing a modern Mortal Kombat game. Early Access folks will have it tomorrow. Public on Friday. We've a short Behind-the-Scenes video on our trip to Chicago too. Expect that over the weekend.
So yea. Let me know what you think! Would you like to see more short videos like this in between big docs in the future?

2019-03-09 05:59:48 +0000 UTCOn one hand I found this really funny, and interesting. But on the other, I felt like this was just an appetizer for a bigger/longer video coming up. I guess I would love it better, if I knew there where more/longer videos about the same game coming soon. But it really just whets the appetite, and makes me want a longer doc. The thing I enjoy the most about NoClip is when you guys take your time, and gives a thorough behind the scenes look.

2019-03-07 10:41:17 +0000 UTCI think trying some shorter videos to attract new people to the channel and patreon is a great idea. The content doesn't go as deep as I'd like but the overhead sounds low, so please continue experimenting :)

2019-03-06 23:05:19 +0000 UTCMy concern with this is that I saw this post about designing fatalities in Mortal Kombat and thought that was a great, original idea for a quick video. But then 5 minutes later I saw the following link on Polygon to a story about the exact same thing: https://www.polygon.com/2019/3/6/18252200/mortal-kombat-11-scorpion-fatality-ed-boon Personally I don't like the idea of new videos coming out of preview/press events if they are going to be the same content that news outlets will be providing; that content is already available, and isn't what I come to Noclip for. That said, it was a great video, and I would welcome more shorter videos (in addition to the current videos). Thanks for your work!

2019-03-06 21:35:30 +0000 UTCI'm glad people like it, and if it brings more people to NoClip then it's all good. I'm not really for it. Usually with these preview/press events people are in such a - for a lack of better word - sales-mode. Theres usually not room for anything else (reflection vs. description) - you get the same stories that everybody else did with these junkets, even though you payed for it ;) - the whole setup is not conducive for anything else. In general - short - content from a game before it's release leaves a bad taste in my mouth - at least if it tries to be anything else. Longer in-depth does not. If it's short I like the bit-sized chunks from devs after the game have been through the review-sales-release mill :) Edit. I guess its because it ends up being about the game-game, and not the people, real-problems, process - if so only superficial hints of that - 'cause who would do that. Opposite what I appreciate so much - and feel is at the core of NoClip - from you guys. This kind of content I usually get elsewhere. It feels too much like dvd-extras - the bad kind. Or demo-disc interviews ;)

2019-03-06 15:25:55 +0000 UTCAwesome! Would certainly enjoy bite-sized videos, especially if it doesn't draw too much of your effort away from other projects.

2019-03-06 14:40:15 +0000 UTCHuh, caught me off-guard, you usually seem so indifferent to fighting games. I anticipated that all fighting game content would be Esteban solo projects. Looking forward to watching these videos.

2019-03-06 14:35:37 +0000 UTCThis is so awesome to see, and excellent idea to piggyback interviews off of preview events. I had the pleasure of meeting Ed Boon at E3 and he was awesome.

2019-03-06 14:16:39 +0000 UTCA really cool, bitesize vid. It's like an extra to a complete doc and reminds me of the Ars Technica series,War Stories. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFNxJVTJleE&list=PLKBPwuu3eCYkScmqpD9xE7UZsszweVO0n
