New Year - New Podcast

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

First of all friends, please go subscribe here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSHBlPhuCd1sDOdNANCwjrA

That's the new YouTube Channel for the new Noclip Podcast.

- "New podcast? But you only release two episodes of the last one?"

Well. We've got some big plans. So let me explain...

Over the past two years we've spent a lot of time weighing up which stories we can afford to do. This is both an issue of money and time. We're a small crew and so we have to turn down three or four times as many projects as we take on. This means that many stories, regardless of how important or interesting they are, just don't make the cut.

I started the podcast to try and scoop up some of these stories. Smaller stories that were worth telling, but perhaps not worth investing thousands of dollars and weeks of our time on. I made the creative decision to make these highly edited, radio-doc style podcasts as I enjoy creating this type of work and thought it helped me crunch big, complicated stories into shorter run-times. I still love doing this style of podcast, and we're still going to do these (we have one coming out in a few days) - but the focus of the podcast is going to fundamentally shift very soon.

We're making the Noclip Podcast a more regular thing. Less edited, more conversational, hosted by me, with some of the biggest and most important names in the industry in the other seat. There is no podcast out there right now that does this. A weekly invitational podcast with the biggest names in games (devs, media and otherwise) willing to come on and chew the fat. That's what we're aiming for with the Noclip Podcast.

This is happening on the same feed as before, so you don't have to do anything (except sub that new YouTube channel if you want to) and we're still going to do the highly edited podcasts from time to time. They'll be on the same feed under the subtitle "Stories".

By the way, if you didn't know we had a podcast or haven't subscribed, here are the various feeds you can connect to:

We're aiming big for this one. I've already got some pretty exciting names lined up and will be playing with the format over the first few episodes. But generally I wanted to have something a bit more regular for all of you, and something exciting for me to pursue on a weekly basis. To help to establish Noclip as a name within the games coverage world and to hopefully grow our audience, our patrons and influence over the course of 2019.

Expect our third Noclip Podcast Story later this week (with Rami Ismail, all about representation of Islamic Culture in games). After that we're gonna take it in an exciting new direction. $5 Patrons will get these early just like before. Thanks so much for your support in 2018. It really helped steady the ship, and we're planning to grow a lot more in 2019.

Let me know what you think!

Danny

TL;DR
- Noclip Podcast is going weekly this year
- Less edited, more conversational
- Loads of fun guests coming on to chat
- Edited episodes will be specials that appear in the feed every now and then.

Can’t wait to list to it tomorrow, on my commute!

I read "more conversational" as "more controversial" and thought uh oh Danny's gonna stir up some shit! lmao

Im looking forward to this. Now, this is a little lofty, but if you could be to gaming what Maron is to comedy. If you can somehow mix professional themes (like Islamic Culture in games) with personal (where did you grow up, what did your parents do, why are you here now) and appeal to a mainstream audience. Im not sure your future interviewees are willing to go beyond the professional and warm and charming. And that is fair. But I really hope so. It could really take off. The narrative inside gaming is very much relatable to the mainstream (and vice versa), and peoples lives in general. Anyway. Your hard work is much appreciated <3 Edit. As Lucy Yearwood mentions Ryan's interviews are great. But I really see a greater potential in this, using your knowledge and personal experience with life to create a more relaxed setting that goes beyond "just" a string of questions.

Great stuff, will be a great addition to KFGD in my daily home to work route :)

Piotr Kostecki

oh nice. I really like the interviews Ryan McCaffrey does for Unfiltered so looking forward to these types of interviews on a more frequent basis. Can't wait to hear the Rami one

Lucy Yearwood

Subbed. Super excited for the rollout and eager to see who you have coming on! Happy New Year!

Brandon K Gann

Excited for this. I feel like the more casual tone is really going to help. A few suggestions for folks that may be interesting: Matt Thorson, Lucas Pope, Josh DeBonis (indie darlings). Ed Logg, John Newcomer, Brian Colin (designers from back in the arcade days).

Derek Rawlings

Exciting!

Exciting!!!

Kevin O'Neil

Heck yeah! Super excited for this! I love it as a way for y'all to catch the stories you can't make full docs on, that's a great strategy

Ethan Thibault

Hell yeah

Kon-Tiki

Exciting! Can't wait to hear the new format. Will be nice to add a new regular to the mix. Will the GB anniversary story still make it out in January you think? Excited for that one. :) Cheers!
