Hey Patrons,
So the cat is out of the bag and now I've had some time to collect myself I thought it would be a good idea to answer some of the questions that have cropped up.
A Matter of Length
I've had a bunch of questions about the length of the docs so let me give you a bit of a heads up. The first doc "The History of Bethesda Game Studios" is going to be something similar to our Horizon doc. Current run-time is about 90 minutes but I'm trying to trip that down a bit. The second doc "The Making of Fallout 76" is going to be around to 30-40 minutes. I was trying to get that closer to the sweet-spot we had for the DOOM doc, and also so we could fit it on this thing....
Fallout 76 Doc Premiere @ E3
So this part is pretty cool. Geoff Keighley's live show at E3 is only getting bigger and this year I've been invited to come on with himself and Todd to debut our doc live at the show. I'm not sure if an official time is out yet but I've been led to believe it'll be in the late afternoon on Tuesday - meaning pretty late in the day for our European friends. We're doing a Q&A afterwards, though I suspect most of the Qs will be for Todd. In any case it's a wonderful moment of legitimacy for Noclip and a cool opportunity to put our work in front of more people. The plan is to publish the doc a few hours earlier for Early Access Patrons and to set the YouTube VOD live around the time the show goes live to offset any worry about the stream being stripped and uploaded without our permission.
How deep into 76 do you go? Is this just an ad for the game?
Obviously I have to be incredibly careful with my words because anything I say can and will be used to infer something about that game. But we get as deep into the nitty gritty of design decisions as we have in any of our other docs. I'm very conscious of the fact that a pre-release doc being shown at E3 looks like a marketing beat for the publishers. However I want you all to know that the content of the doc is the same as what we've ever done. Obviously many of the questions of what Fallout 76 is will have been answered at the showcase, so we're essentially taking the ball and running with it from there. Getting into details and exploring the history of the project, the many design decisions that were taken and the current state of the project. It's very interesting stuff.
Bonus Bethesda Episodes!
The big secret is that once the two docs are out, we actually have a bunch more stuff from this project coming in June. We filmed for over a week and have dozens of hours of interviews with loads of cool insight that didn't make it into either doc. So in the weeks after E3 we're going to be publishing some of those. One is about the design of Fallout Shelter, one is about hunting bugs, another is about recording Ron Pearlman, and we even have one all about The Dark Brotherhood. They will be snakable 5-10 minute videos like our Sessions and will all be early for Early Access Patrons.
Behind The Scenes!
We've been filming behind-the-scenes stuff for this the entire way along and Esteban is already busy editing it together. We'll also be filming some bits at E3 and combing it all into a cool BTS video for Patrons only. We've done a poor job of showing how the sausage gets made in previous projects so I made sure to put extra time and resources into capturing this project. Expect it sometime this month.
Production Hangouts Return
$20 Patrons - we're going to have a Production Hangout this Sunday. Keep your eyes peeled for an email today.
Welcome new Patrons! Did you get double billed?
I also wanted to mention that we had a bunch of Patrons join yesterday. Perhaps some of you did so without realizing we bill on the first of each month regardless of when you signed up. Patreon does say this when you first sign up but I can imagine it's easy to miss. First of all, welcome to the Noclip community and thanks so much for your support! Secondly, if you did get double billed please send me a DM on Patreon and I'll make sure to reimburse you one of those charges right away.
I think that's about as much as I've got right now. I'm editing pretty much all day at this stage so I've gotta get back to it. If you have any questions please put them in the comments below.
How cool is this?! Agh!
Sorry, I can only keep my cool so long.
Danny
