Some Minor Re-Branding! /Noclip

Hey it's me on a rooftop in Amsterdam, but guess what - it took a lot of people behind the scenes to make this image of me on a rooftop in Amsterdam happen.

Hey Patrons,

Just wanted to give you a heads up on some minor re-branding of our Patreon page. When I started Noclip it was very much about ME and what I was doing after leaving GameSpot and so I was advised by the folks at Patreon to brand the page around me. This is why it had my face and the address was Patreon.com/dannyodwyer for so long.

But Noclip has grown. Over the past year we've used multiple contractors, collaborated with plenty of talented people and wish to expand that further in 2018. This is no longer just me. We have multiple people who creatively collaborate on projects. Folks who pay their bills and buy their food through the funding you have provided. And frankly we've heard from new Patrons that signing up to the page with my name and face feels a bit disconnected from the way we present it on YouTube. So I've taken the decision to re-brand and thus re-URL the page to Patreon.com/Noclip.

You don't have to do anything, it's the exact same page - all the links to previous content still work the same and your history on here has been saved. But as a courtesy I thought I'd let you know.

We have exciting plans for expansion in 2018 and this is the first step of many towards that. In fact, over the next month I'll be posting some articles on here asking for feedback on what you'd like from us in the future. Do you want more editorial content? More behind-the-scenes videos? A podcast? We've established Noclip as a platform for creative and authentic stories about games development and games culture, and want to cement our position as the biggest name in this space.

Let me know what you think, and thank you for your continuing support.

Danny

In case anyone reads my earlier political tirade. Giant Bomb did not wipe my post. Someone just moved it to "Off Topic" from "General Discussion" without my knowledge. Not sure I agree it's "Off Topic" from video games, but whatevs! God, I hate being that "Soap Box Guy" in the forums... Love your shit, Danny!

Haha, did it again. Net neutrality is going before Congress on December 14th. No public vote. They're just going to vote among themselves. The Chairman of the FCC is trying to get preferential access to the internet for larger companies such as Verizon (his former employer). If you're in SUPPORT OF NET NEUTRALITY there's still something you can do. Link, if it works: .https://www.battleforthenet.com/ Or Google: "support net neutrality" and click on "Join the Battle for Net Neutrality" and follow the prompts. I already did it. They'll first call you. I was nervous at first, but they're expecting you. Just tell them "I'm calling in support of Net Neutrality". They may ask for your name and address to make the support official, like a ballot or survey. The "Join the Battle for Net Neutrality" website will also show you where protests are happening, if you'd like to show your SUPPORT FOR NET NEUTRALITY there. I'm definitely doing that as well. I never get involved in politics, but I feel very strongly about this. If you're reading this, the internet is probably a very big part of your life, but there are many many Americans who hardly know what the internet is (I know quite a few youngish people like that, and I'm in California. I'm sure you must know at least someone). I suspect companies like Verizon are trying to take advantage of this, and lay a precedent before too many people understand the gravity of it. I understood Net Neutrality was in question, but had no idea a decision was going to be made so soon until I was prompted to the above website by Patreon. I'm sure most people, who are strongly in support of Net Neutrality, have no idea this is going before Congress in a couple weeks. Vinny brought it up on the Bombcast, but didn't mention any details. Perhaps it's Giantbomb's decision to not get too involved in politics, who knows? I don't blame 'em. I'm typically the same way, but feel too strongly about this to just sit back and see what happens.

Woops... hit "return" on accident, so...

Hope you don't mind, Danny, but I know a lot of the more passionate Giantbomb fans are patrons of yours, and my post about Net Neutrality was wiped with no notification from Giant Bomb's forums. I'm assuming, now, it's probably a CBS thing. Didn't even occur to me. I'm pretty passionate about it, as I'm sure a lot of your viewers and yourself are. So, again, hope you don't mind my posting here (even though Patreon is prompting people to the same thing. Kinda why I feel this post won't get wiped like it did at Giant Bomb [nothing against the duders]), just wanted to reiterate it to the Giant Bomb community (which I'm sure a good portion of your community is from).

The brand change makes sense and something which I think has been a long time coming with the continued success and growth of the channel and patreon. Understand some may feel some of the personal touch is gone, but only front facing imo. If you read your posts here, are in the Discord and of course watch the actual docs your personality shines through it all Danny and I hope the same for all future contributors too! As always love your work and can't wait for the Horizon doc :D Also would love to see more side content like Danny's Disk Club etc, to mix it up and because I really like it! But of course comes down to time and prioritising docs etc. Hence bringing on more people to help and now we are full circle haha.

Seconded! :)

I'd love to see more of Danny Disk Club styled videos, your Op-Ed style show speaking on the medium and its various aspects! However I want the docs to be as good as they can first and foremost- so any extra content that doesn't take too much away from the docs is awesome. But what else do YOU want to make Danny??

Editorial content and pod/vid casts. I haven't caught much twitch, but i think thats a little different then topic discussions or conversations about gaming news. I've always liked sesslers soapbox and the point type shows. You're too smart about games and have a great reputation to not do editorials or casts...

When I think of Noclip I think of a channel that is a gateway into what *others* think about what they or their colleagues have done. I'd like more content on that front. Less editorial, I guess, and a little more about the stories of folks behind major mysteries or news events. There are things we've thought, "I wonder if we'll ever find out what happened to..." and I think you're in a perfect place to cover that, once the people involved can look back and laugh about it anyway. :) Edit: you're doing an amazing job as it is, though! Honestly I'm happy with the tone and content that you have already!

I'm certainly grey enough

Yea I think technically that's the case - oh it's weird posting as Noclip now. Eww. I sory of hate it - oh wait I'll just sign off as Danny. - Danny

I guess congratulations are in order

Keep up the great work Danny et al.

Understandable. It doesn't seem as 'personal' but such is life :)

Nicholas Sylvain

I think this is a fair change. I don’t think it personally bothered me at all but brand consistency is important. Noclip it is :)

I do love documentaries on the people and stories behind games. I'd like to see more stories on the 'issues' of gaming: DLC, microtransactions, free to play. Documentaries on these are just as engrossing in my opinion - in the same way that you used to front 'The point' and talk about these things. Keep up the great work!

Capture the passion of these creators and gamers and all will be fine. I don't think we need another Jim Sterling or IGN but an Andy Rooney, perhaps.

I was in the Rediscovering Mystery doc, does that qualify me as a collaborator? I need to know where my bragging rights stand. Keep up the awesome work Danny!
