East Coast Q&A #1 - Call for Questions!
Added 2017-10-26 17:34:10 +0000 UTC
Hey Patrons,
This one has been long overdue, so let's make it a good one. Since the last one we've turned a year old, published a six-part series on The Witcher, and I moved around 3,000 miles so there's a lot to talk about.
Please post your questions below and I'll answer them in a video early next week. I'm doubly excited as it's the first time I'm going to film on my new set (pictured above). I still have to light it and wire it up properly, but it's getting there.
Looking forward to seeing your questions, post them in the replies now!
Danny
Hah, I'd love to. We'll see though, the BGS office doesn't need to work with folks like Noclip. Maybe for DOOM, but the Todd Howard team has such a deep fanbase they don't necessarily need to bother with us. But who knows - we do have a lot of big names talking to us right now. I'd love to, I'm a huge fan of that studio.

I love it Fred, my mental health is so much better. When work gets too hard I just relax on the hammock in the back garden and look at the trees. I'm excercising more, eating better with our new kitchen, and spending more time on house chores which gives my brain a new focus. I'm really happy here, we both are. And in terms of work I have so much energy to make stuff now. I'm really excited.

Thanks so much! I think my favorite is Towerfull of Mice. The atmosphere and resolution of that one is particularly haunting. I'm also a big fan of Devil By the Well for the same reason, and also the wonderful theater play quest. Oh, and the one in the cave with the whale. We had a bit about that in the doc but it sadly got cut. Might be in the extended bits though!

I'm happy for the videos to be shared as many places as possible as long as they are not monetized (no payment, no advertising), but I can only give you permission as far as my content goes. Sadly we use licences music (and some footage) in our videos and my licences do not extend to other versions of the videos.

I've eaten at a lot of local crab places. And Nandos. They have Nandos here. I'm so happy!

Send me a DM on here. It'd be honored to, but it would depend on the location obviously.

It's come up, but it was one of a number of projects I decided to put off looking into further as we weren't going to form an LLC in California and I needed some legal distance from it. Who knows though, we might get around to it. It would be amazing, especially in light of the latest cancelled Star Wars.

Hey Danny! As a resident of Pennsylvania, allow me to welcome you to the East Coast. It's great to have you here! Anyway, your Witcher project was recently completed and released (and it was fantastic, by the way), so this question is a Witcher themed one. What are your favorite quests in The Witcher 3, and why?

Knowing that you are the person who will not shy away from a challenge - how do you think you’ll challenge yourself in 2018 when it comes to Noclip? Will it be a different kind of content? More complex shoots? More complex and elaborate edits? Or something else?

Welcome to the East Coast! As someone who's spent my whole life over on this side of the country, I was wondering if there's any noticeable differences you've had to adapt to?

Welcome Danny! Glad that you are here on the east coast. Here's my question: Are there any new Maryland restaurants or other eating spots that you and your wife have discovered since you arrived?

I'm currently attending a University that has faculty that are trying to develop a curriculum for students to earn a concentration in game design (more than a minor less than a major). This might be overly optimistic, but I believe that my University might be open to hosting you as a guest to deliver a special lecture or talk on topics in the video game industry. Would you be willing to do something like that? I'm hoping someone like you could give the curriculum some momentum at my University as well as inspire students. I could give you the contact information of the faculty trying to organize the curriculum if you're interested.

Has being in the east coast woods left you with a sort of seperation anxiety from the nearby SF gaming zone?

After reading Blood, Sweat & Pixels, so how about that Star Wars 1313 doc? ;)

No, seriously though: would you consider an offer for putting your 1st year (and consequent) docs with all the extras on a blu-ray disc and offer to sell to your patreons or beyond?

Cad é mar atá tú? Hope the big move is going great and that you enjoy the new lifestyle. Would you like to or have plans to do a multi part doc about a unrealeased game, building the hype by releasing bits leading up to the release date? Loving all your work so far and it be great to see more BTS stuff. Can't wait too see what the future brings for you and NoClip

So silly question: What is your favorite tim-tam flavor. Serious question: Any thoughts on covering the Metro series of games, or games preservation , or the highs and lows of "crunch" in the game dev cycle?

Hey Dan! Any updates on A Tournament Of Lies? <3

Hi Danny! With a new year approaching, have you thought about "investigating" the Legacy of Kain series? Last time I asked you weren't sure given your schedule during this year.
2017-10-26 19:44:27 +0000 UTC
Do you have any desire to cover a game in the making, and release the doc alongside or slightly after the game launches? I.e. cover the development of say Elder Scrolls 6, being there to capture b-roll, meetings, as well as interviews with the key members at different stages in the projects development. Just a hypothetical!

Hey Danny. I remember you started doing Kinda Funny because you were going a bit nuts working alone in an apartment in Oakland. How are you handling mental health now that you're working alone in a house in rural Maryland?

Hi Danny, love everything you've done so far. My Q: Pretty much all of the games and stories you've covered are things from recent history (within the 2010's or so, as best I can tell). Was it a conscious decision when you started Noclip to focus on more recent stuff? Do you have any plans or desires to dive further back into the gaming history? Like weird Atari or Nintendo stories from the 80's, Sega or Sony origin stories in the 90's, etc.? Keep up the great work, I think you're doing some amazing stuff showing the human side of the gaming industry.

Would you ever consider creating documentaries about hardware? For example, teaching us about the early years of graphics cards or how Nintendo went from the GameCube to the Wii

One year in, do you notice a difference in the way developers treat you? Easier to get appointments or that they want to be in a noclip documentary? Do you feel noclip has made a difference?

Cheers! I’m from MD and have a question or two about life/weather. Have you been the Mid Atlantic before? I know you’re in Maryland, but are you in a more rural or urban area? The outskirts of DC and rural Western MD are very different ways of life. Are you ready to have real seasons and snow and whatnot?

Hey Mr. O'Dwyer! Welcome to this side of the Mississippi River! I hope everything has gone smooth in your move. Now that you're on the opposite side of the country, what is/will be the most immediate business benefit of NoClip? I know you're closer to various relationship opportunities, but are there project ideas near you or other ideas you are looking to implement in the immediate future (beyond posting the last of NoClip sessions, the GTA V players doc and the video(s?) on GOG. Thanks for taking my question if you do and I hope all is well

First off, congrats on the move! It's great seeing how excited you are. I'm sure you've been asked this before, but since you're now much closer in proximity to Bethesda, how soon until you make a visit?

What will your expo schedule be like, do you think you'll be attending the next PAX, NY+San Diego Comicon, E3 and PlayStation Experience?
Also, be sure to come down to NYC for a meetup now that you're a stones throw away!

What are you most looking forward to for year two (that you can talk about, anyway)? Also, any chance that O'carina of Time will make a return? Thanks for everything you do!

I just want to know how you're doing! Running a two-man company is stressful enough, but now that year one is done and the East Coast Move have happened, how are you doing? Has the move complicated things and added stress, or is the change simply a relief?
I would also love a video tour of the new office space. Keep up the great work!
