The Story of CD Projekt - Witcher Documentary

YOUTUBE LINK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNZkTk5gLuo

Hey Patrons,

Apologies for the late post on this. This morning we packed up our apartment into a moving fan and my 2-factor authentication wouldn't work on my updated phone to let me log in on my laptop. At least I know it works!

Anyway, I'm delighted to reveal the first in our six-part series on The Witcher. This video focuses on the cultural background of the studio, Marcin Iwiński's young life in socialist Poland and how the team came to work on The Witcher. We have two more videos dropping this week (each a day early for $10 patrons) followed by the final three next week, so get watching!

Thanks so much to all of you who helped fund this work. Like I said last month, this trip was our longest and more expensive, and it's thanks to you that we've been able to scale up to make cool projects like this. We hope your trust in us has been justified.

Thank you again. Please enjoy the show :)

He is pacing them to keep us from killing ourselves. Thanks for taking care of us Danny!

Great work as always Danny. Like another Patreon touched on, the opening segment really gave the piece real context. Looking forward to the next one! PS. I took your recommendations and tried many IPAs and APAs whilst in Warsaw. Good shout, so thanks! The river bars had sadly closed for summer but I got to meet some of the folks at CD Projekt thanks to my good friend now working there (hence the trip). What a great bunch!

Couldn't agree more. The contextual opener was smart way to set it up. It really helped the flow. Can't wait for the rest!

Need to resist... must watch all at once...

I know I repeat my self over and over again but! (Greg's excited voice) Spectacular work Danny!

Danny this was awesome! I really enjoyed how far away (from the actual game development) this video's narrative started and then built up to where it left off. I can't wait to see what's next. And like all your docs, stuff like this continues to make me incredibly interested in and care about things brand new to me behind the scenes of my beloved pastime.

Man, I was bummed about you leaving Kinda Funny (even if it was to move to my beautiful home state of Maryland - welcome btw!), but if this is the kind of material you've been producing - holy shit. Take my money, man. I absolutely cannot wait to see the rest of this doc. I had read about CD Projekts humble beginnings, but reading about it was nothing compared to hearing the founder discuss it candidly. Fantastic work, Mr. O'Dwyer! (Edit: and if you ever need volunteer help on the production side or transcribing for CC - I worked in film and television professionally for 7 years in Vancouver, BC and Los Angeles in damn near every department before relocating back to Maryland for family stuff. So, ya know... ;) )

Cracking first part, I had no idea of the history behind CD Projekt. Brought back memories of my trip to Warsaw as well for the football, lovely city. Also laughed at your little mistake in the email - "Apologies for the late post on this. This morning we packed up our apartment into a moving fan " :)

Here I was making fun of my roommate for not knowing the roots of GOG.com and I had no idea CD Projekt Red started in localization and borderline piracy. Good luck in the move and keep up the great work.

Josh Squires

Really cool first part. Brought back some memories. I am curious to see how they've made that transition though. The one between a bootleg publisher to a full blown localization was surreal already. From then on to a game developer? That's even crazier!

Tohir Tillyaev

Really awesome first part, fascinating origins of CD Projekt with obligatory Commodore 64 mention and important insight into what it was like for normal people behind the iron curtain, you’re doing great work as always!
