HELLO PATRONS!
How have you all been? I've been pretty cool. I just flew back from my honeymoon in beautiful French Polynesia. It was a blast. I swam with reef sharks, picked up hermit grabs and was schooled by my wife in bocce (or petanque as the French speaking locals call it).
It was my first vacation since starting Noclip and so it was the first time I've been forced to step away from work entirely. Even while home at Christmas, or on trips to PAX, I found myself drifting back towards work and replying to emails in my spare time. Let me tell you, going to a remote island with only 14 other people and no cell service is a pretty good way to no do work for a few weeks!
I feel far more relaxed and less stressed than I have in months, and I'm trying to retain that feeling. So I'm sitting in a coffee shop this morning as part of my new plan to get out of the house more and take care of my mental health. Also to answer the PILE of E3 related emails that landed in my inbox this past fortnight. Getting out of the house should hopefully help with my energy and mood, especially as there's gonna be plenty of stuff to edit at my home over the comings weeks.
May is the start of Noclip Season 2 in my head. Or certainly the time when the rubber hits the road with my wider plans for the site. Expect to see changes in how we shoot our patron-only videos, and some fresh ideas for the community. Not to mention; fresh videos! First off, $5 patrons can expect our biggest behind-the-scenes feature yet, featuring plenty of footage from our week shooting in Tokyo. Also we're going to start putting out the fun videos we shot at GDC under the banner "Noclip Sessions". I'll give dates for all this as I work through the schedule this week, but expect stuff in the next week.
May is the first month since starting Noclip that I don't have a work trip scheduled, which means plenty more time for Q&As and our Patron Hangouts too. Expect posts on those in the next two days. Also I've got my driving test on Wednesday, wish me luck (please do, I failed it twice in Ireland, would rather have a clean record in the US).
For those asking I will be at E3 but won't be "working" it per-se. We're not shooting much, but I'm using the time to get access to games, talk to people about upcoming projects and honestly - enjoy E3 on my own terms for once. I was very fortunate to host the GameSpot stage for 4 years, something I literally dreamed of as a kid. This year though, I'm going to try and see some of the show floor. Especially as we have a big doc series being produced either side of the show.
Oh, and finally, YouTube are sending us that silver play button for smashing through 100k subs in 6 months. I still can't quite believe we did that. Once it arrives (in like 2 months apparently) we'll shoot something dumb with it.
Okay, just wanted to touch base at the start of the week. Expect a few more updates this week. As ever, thank you so much for the amazing support. This month is gonna be fun, I'm delighted to have you along for it.
Got any questions, shoot them in the comments!
Danny
