Hello Patrons,
Before I rush out the door for my honeymoon, I guess we should wrap up this Rediscovering Mystery series eh?
The Spelunky doc is an hour long journey covering the design backgrounds of its creators, and multiple elements of the game's design that combine to create it's unique blend of emergent madness.
Let me know what you think in the comments!

I feel like I now owe this game another chance, played for around an hour and then dropped it. Great doc as always Danny, keep them coming.

Very cool. Damn it, Danny, now I'm getting the itch to get back into Spelunky. What a great game.

An amazing doc to an amazing game. It's great to finally put a few faces to the minds behind some of my fondest gaming experiences of the past few years. Danny/Jeremy, you guys did it again. Phenomenal job!

This is pretty specific, but I watched this video with earbuds and the sound design is really great throughout. Makes me wonder if I missed anything just watching your previous vids through my tinny computer speakers.

Fantastic documentary, Spelunky has been on my radar before but this has convinced me to finally grab it, so much love and effort has gone into it. It's my birthday tomorrow so if I end up with a PSN voucher/card (though given I got a Switch last month, it'll likely be a Nintendo eShop one), I'll get it tomorrow! Uh, I'll get it even if I don't receive one TBH. And yes have an awesome honeymoon, you've worked hard, now for fun ;)

Thanks for the feedback! To your criticism, I'm not really aiming to get people to like the games before we talk about them in any of our videos. I think I try and get them to like the interviewees while speaking to why the game is relevant. Games are too subjective to create a reason why a broad audience of viewers "should" enjoy them before playing them. Like most of our individual game deep-dives, it's most certainly for fans. Or at least with people with some prior knowledge of the game. Hopefully the some of our future videos contain game me you're more excited to learn more about. Thanks for watching too!

One for the Spelunky fans I think. Having known nothing about the game previously I still don't quite understand what makes this game special, or what explains its critical/popular success. From the footage it looks fun, but so do many other 2D platformers. If viewers are expected to sit through a 20 minute biographical pre-amble (or "origin story" if you insist) then I think you have to make them care about the game first. I have less idea now than I did before watching how this game fits into the overarching "Rediscovering Mystery" theme. The good stuff: more smart, engaging interviewees; technically very proficient; low-key background music fits well; great interview set dressing!

I hope your honeymoon is even more eventful than your Tokyo trip. Enjoy the well-deserved break!
