Patron Q&A #2 - Frequency of Videos, Patreon Goals & Streaming Plans

As promised here is the second patron-only Q&A this week. On this edition I take questions on how we're going to release each project, my time filming at Blizzard, my home studio, what my parents think of all this and my goals to retain patrons over the long term.

Thanks for being the first ever patrons of Noclip. You folks will always have a special place in my heart as we grow over the coming weeks and months.

See you tomorrow friends,

Danny

Patron Q&A #2 - Frequency of Videos, Patreon Goals & Streaming Plans

Great videos. Love this Patreon so much. I hope I can ask a boring production related question here. I want to know what camera is your webcam.

Hi Danny i still have not received my discord invite!

Question: I've never used or seen discord before, what exactly is it? What do you use it for? Love the work, can't wait to see where noclip goes!

Recommendation for new title for the point. The download.

I love your work and am glad I can help with this even if its only a little! Can I ask if you'll be streaming any rocket league? The new game mode is amazing and I'm sure there'd be loads of patrons more than happy to jump on for a game! haha :)

Not sure if this will get seen here, but Total Biscuit's arbitrary awards 2015 awarded the best game developer to Dice LA for turning around the situation with the a Battlefield title that was launched with poor netcode and had myriad other problems. These guys appear to be true professionals and I wish I knew more about them and what they did to turn it around and how other can do it. https://www.reddit.com/r/Cynicalbrit/comments/3y0h7i/totalbiscuits_arbitrary_video_game_awards_2015/

I love the idea of the news show. I think it's great to get active discussions on how certain events will affect gaming. I can see where the podcast might be tricky but maybe you can make that part of the news show or that's the news show? Would be interesting if you could get some guests to add their thoughts as well.

Non-gaming question! You've talked a lot about running in both these Patreon videos and the various podcasts, videos, etc I've seen you in, and as a runner myself I'm intrigued! What's your running week like? For me it's 3-4 miles of hill repeats on Mondays and Fridays (half a mile up hill, half a mile down); Tuesdays is usually a 4 or 5 mile run at half-marathon pace; Wednesday is often an off day for me, but if not it's just 5k distance at 10k pace; Thursdays is whatever I feel like doing (often it's just a cross-training day, so swimming or biking; Saturdays is long day, anywhere from 6-12 miles usually. Anyway, good luck with all of this and I can't wait to see your first doc!

Jackson Roye

Apologies if this has been asked before, but do you think you'd be able to livestream some of the interviews you do and allow audience Q&A? Also I love your shiny blue anime hair in the streams (most likely from the monitor glare but still great).

Craig Parker

I'm not sure if this has been covered, but I appreciate you've considered working around C&G Live (#KFBF) - but maybe a later slot around 12:30 /1pm, instead of a morning show, would suit viewers better ? I know you'd serve alot of your European patrons that way (allowing for the commute home) - plus it gives Colin enough time to get it ALL out of his system. #EventHorizon

Question: Is there any particular documentary filmmaker or interviewer you're a huge fan of and try to emulate in your work? Who's your biggest inspiration? I love Louis Theroux and glad you mentioned him, also a huge fan of Marc Maron's podcast. Would definitely be interested in a long-form podcast of developer interviews.

Frank Howley

Danny, i'm a big fan of podcasts, any chance for some audio documentaries?

Thanks Danny, enjoying what you're doing so far! Can't wait to hear what the first project will be!

Thanks Danny. Focusing on gaming related content is what we want. I also didn't know that Noclip was a game mod reference! That's really cool 👌🏼

Majed

And man! Get Todd to let you do their "first view" on next TES game!

Great Q&A. I do like the idea of a "morning show". Something nice and relaxing to listen to/participate in. One more on that is - I'm very much open to you monetizing those. Maybe if you get enough traction and viewers something like LootCrate sponsorship or whoever else supports creators these days. At the end of the day I'm sure everyone here wants to enjoy your content and enjoy it for a long time. And for that I think we need to make sure you get more than just food on your table :)

Hey Danny, best of luck with Noclip, I`ve got 2 questions. 1. are you planning on covering cancelled games? there are stories worth telling and it would be a shame if they were forgotten, 2. is there some topic in the world of videogames, that you feel is impossible for you to cover? Thanks!

What is the biggest pipe dream, pie in the sky story you'd like to tell?

Mario (NotBros) Piacquadio

If you stream your "random encounter" on twitch will there be an archived video on your youtube channel or on noclips, or no archive at all? Thanks!

Already loving it Danny. Thanks for taking the time to run thru all these questions. I was sold before but even more so now

Josh in Tampa

Thanks dude, really enjoyed these weekend videos.

takeshikitano3

the podcast is a great idea. especially with random guests and behind the scenes stories

+1 for podcast. Long form is great for nuance, provided there is some measure of focus/curation.

Question for Patron Q&A #3: What methods/programs do you use to keep track of everything, whether it be your schedule for the week like when to do streams and appear on other shows, the list of tasks you have to do for your current/future projects, etc? Also, any tips for others that work from home and may have trouble with discipline and staying on task? Thanks, Danny!

"Right heeeere on videogames.com" was what i was expecting, this patreon thing is too new...

Daniel Nøss

I think the podcast is an excellent idea. Up the Dubs ;)

Love the idea of a morning show.

So happy you are doing this, its the kind of coverage I have wanted from the major games sites that would now rather write about game of thrones, for years!

Matt Nelson

Sam & Niko seems to operate a decent agile workflow of BTS/ supplementary low production cost vidyas alongside their larger budget/time spent content creation. :) Worth the look, if your not already a fan - https://www.youtube.com/user/samandniko/videos

Hello Danny. Do you have any memories of interviews going awry or ending abruptly? You mentioned before that your good at squeezing a little more put of people, but have you ever stepped over the line.

David Childs

Hi Danny How do you plan to deal with the isolation that sometimes occurs when working from home and not in an office with co-worker?

Troy Lindstrom

Yes please to daily/weekly news catch up! Could double up as your podcast.

You should buy a crazy super comfy ergonomical gaming chair Danny, dump that IKEA shit!

Bavo Debraekeleer

Stick questions in here as it's a private group and q's can't be shared :)

kaymackgee

Are we supposed to put questions here or below the YouTube video?

👍👍👍

Thomas Kaspersen

Great! Excited to give it a watch later when I'm free.

Excellent! Can't wait to watch. :-)
