I'm a middle school teacher. In response to your thoughts about teachers, I'll just say in my experience (at least in a light blue state) a lot of us are "with it" in terms of believing in teaching critical thinking over just memorizing facts, teaching kids to ask questions and not just accept what ideological shit they're hearing. The problems with education in the US are systemic and are pretty complicated but I'd point toward decades of attacks on public education/underfunding, tech addiction, family fragmentation and a disappearing middle class with parents too busy/tired to be involved, top-down obsession with standardized testing that teachers have no control over... believe me dude most of us aren't in it for the pay, haha.
