I'm leaving for my Italy trip VERY soon so I just wanted to sit down and chat while I do my makeup for filming. It's been a while since I've done a 'Get Ready with Me', but it felt nice to have an honest chat about what goes into being a content creator.

I’m a teacher, so whenever I am gone during the school year, I have to do my sub plans and pre-make my Canvas/Google Classroom pages to post on time. I recommend the gelato at Eduardo’s next to the Duomo, and the view of the city from Piazzale Michelangelo. Have so much fun! Take a day trip to Cinque Terre if you have the time, to see the beautiful colorful towns on the coast. Eat so many carbs, have so much fun! Italy is sprinkled with magic fairy dust for reaaaaaal.

2024-06-24 00:16:11 +0000 UTCMy partner and I did an Italy trip last September and when I tell you I planned my packing list via MULTIPLE spreadsheets, wooooweeeee. I struggle with feeling underprepared for any kind of trip, but we were bouncing around Italy (Amalfi Coast, Tuscany, Florence, Rome) for over two weeks and I knew I needed to make the most out of every single thing I packed. I was downright STRATEGIC. And of course, terribly anxious about leaving my animals in the care of others. And about wrapping up work in a way that meant the software I work on wouldn't fall apart in my absence. And everything else. So in short, I FEEL YOU. We did have an absolutely wonderful time, though. I think you'll love Florence, it was such a beautiful place and it didn't have some of the tourist-crush feeling that Rome had. Also if you can, get out there into that Tuscan countryside (the Mugello Valley is *chef's kiss*) because it's stunning and old and just WOW. Get some Arancini from a gas station, it'll be stonking amazing at a fraction of the cost. And if you're in Rome and seeking the best Carbonara of your LIFE, check out Luciano Monosilio's place LUCIANO. I could die happy after eating his Carbonara! Wishing you a wonderful time!!

I've had some of my worst anxiety attacks while on trips. For the last trip I took, I dug deep to find the chill vibes and just tried to go with the flow since I realized I have 10x more anxiety when I've tried to plan for everything and have a ton of expectations for how things will go. I hope you're able to enjoy your trip!

In the end, it took a few days to fully relax and emerge into the trip and none of the things I was stressing out about turned into actual issues. Venice was not so much my cup of tea, but Florence is absolutely magical, I wish I could go back already. If you have time, I did an amazing walking tour with https://floraswalk.com/, an art historian specialized on the Renaissance and native to the city. Not sponsored, I just genuinely enjoyed the tour with her.

I made “music videos” of footage I took when I studied abroad in Ireland and I am so grateful I did because they help me really relive the experience. My husband and I are about to go on a road trip out west and I can’t wait to capture videos of our time :) Have an amazing time in Italy!!

Your honesty is a huge gift to the other makers here. P.s. Florence is the only place I’ve ever felt home. I haven’t been there for 23 years, but it’s in my dreams often. If you are able to, please say hi to Santa Maria Novella when the sun is setting/rising. You’re such a great photographer, and the stained glass colors spill all over the place. I really appreciate you sharing this information with me, I feel kind of overwhelmed with a lot of the things that are different even though they really aren’t that big of a deal really. But this helps tremendously, so again thank you! Also, is it okay to ask you about any must see places in Dublin or anywhere else? We are going to Bundoran for the class we are taking there , but also traveling all over and if you have any suggestions for cool places, shops, restaurants, pubs, any of the cool or amazing monuments or statues, and the places that are great for touristy stuff, things just really awesome to get to see in person. 2024-06-22 19:41:01 +0000 UTCHi Sarah, I have a Samsung Galaxy phone. Getting the SIM card wasn't the hard part. Ireland uses Vodafone there, and a huge Vodafone store is in Dublin's City Center. My issue was that I couldn't use my phone to dial out, because I didn't have an international plan on my phone, and my carrier locked it when I bought it a year or so ago. I could only go online, so I was able to use Facebook Messenger and the like. So, that's why I say to make sure you call your carrier and have your phone unlocked for use with other SIM cards.

I’m going to be honest even though I am so incredibly excited to be going, I am having a literal anxiety/panic/nervous mess of emotions that are making me feel so, so incredibly overwhelmed. I just do not know how to make myself not feel like this and it seems so silly to say such a thing. Have a lovely time in Italy! Love to see your blog whenever you’re able to get it up. Please don’t feel rushed, based even solely on the other comments on this post, we really do understand life can be a lot and overwhelming and you need to make sure to take care of yourself. It may sound like a silly quote, it may even be somewhat cliche but when I heard this quote it helped me. “You cannot pour from an empty cup.” It basically means you need to take care of you in all the ways necessary physically, emotionally, psychologically, even spiritually if you feel that way. You fill your cup so to speak, each time you allow yourself to cut you some slack and not always put too much pressure on you. That way, you can then do and share whatever you want to because you did the self care and filled your cup. Sorry I said the words you and yourself so many times. Sometimes it just gets away from me and I really need the thesaurus handy lol.

It helps so much with your posture (and should be covered by FSA or HSA too!). My one friend legit cried with relief when she wore it the first time. I hope you have a great trip! I'm traveling to England next week, the first time I've left the US since we moved back when I was 4 years old. I'm going with my mom and she is not a trip planner, my dad is and he's not going so I have to step up a little bit. I sort of feel like Ricky Bobby from Talladega Nights when he's doing his first interview and doesn't know what to do with his hands. "What do I do with my passport" Work has been extra busy lately (of course right before my vacation) so I haven't even had time to get anything ready or think ahead at all.

If you aren't paying for an international phone plan, I recommend calling your provider and getting it unlocked so you can use a different SIM card in Italy. I didn’t know I had to do it before leaving for Ireland 3 months ago, and could only use my phone in WiFi hotspots.

The two main ones being: 1. avoid restaurants and cafes near the touristy spots, they're usually overpricing everything and are barely considered authentic italian food haha, instead you can try the upper side of the city (Cannaregio) or the left side (Dorsoduro), this is mostly where locals and uni students go to eat and drink! 2. get lost in the city as much as you can, take the roads less traveled because they usually hide the most whimsical places this city can offer! (Wait, also you would probably love one of my most favourite places! it's the Libreria Acqua Alta, a used bookstore full of cats and whimsy! It's packed with tourists nowadays but if you get there early enough the magic is still there!) I honestly don't know if you'll see this in time or at all, but I'm very happy you're coming to enjoy one of my favourite cities in the world and I hope you have the most wonderful time here!!

I did love how toothless came out though! and seeing the failures in the video really helps me as a crafter, because its just how crafting goes sometimes and its nice to see someone else also has the same struggles, y'feel? thank you for being honest about it! I really feel like I take more away from videos like that, where I'm learning from the creators wins *and* fails!
