"Damsel" Cosplay Tutorial!

You KNOW once I saw the swords and weathering and dragons, I had to do it.

ANYWHO, here is my first full cosplay video for y'all, I hope you like it! I had a lot of fun putting this together so I definitely want to continue these kinds of videos for my more manageable projects.

Let me know what other 'simple' costumes you'd maybe wanna see :) LOVE YA

"Damsel" Cosplay Tutorial!

Comments

would you ever consider making a video about sourcing ethical wigs? x

Grub ♡

It was a fun movie not terrible or great. But your cosplay is amazing

Sarah Roop-Rosales

I just watched a Damsel "review" thing, the other day and thought, "Oops, I thought she was Rachel."

The Band Wagon

So much fun! I really want to make that leather chest piece and just wear it around casually...as one does. :)

Chelsea Hanah

I'm not exactly a cosplayer (I do wear a variety of interesting pieces I make though 😉) but I make jewellery pieces for cosplayers and I'm mum to an awesome 9yr old cosplayer whom it is my honor to assist 😉 (the detail she goes into is intimidating) so I love to learn techniques to help her realise her ideas. Rachel is great at explaining what she's doing - helps hugely!

Fran H (Siigii)

Brilliant cosplay! Y'know, every time I see you with your sword I want to get one myself, badass chicks in armour will always be inspiring!

Hannah Manna P

The moment you said "worbla" I thought this is not a simple cosplay. As a non-cosplayer (but sewist of teen cosplay pieces), this still seemed like a lot of work! It looks fantastic!

Laura Pelofske

Love it!! The movie was surprisingly really good! Two betrayed women burnt it all down!

Lisa Ferreira

what if you had one of the rooms in your house and turned it into like a museum room for your complete costumes and dioramas? You could include little blurbs about the costumes or eras in history that the costumes come from. It'd look really cool and be a fun way to store things! :)

Ms.K & the KOOL Kids

So does my husband! 😂😂

Azuria

It turned out amazing!

Heather Hofshi

Me: I'm not buying any more tshirts. Also me: furiously googling to find that Mothman shirt. Great quick cosplay. Seeing a less intense cosplay start to finish is great because getting into cosplay has been really intimidating but you made something that would be manageable and still looks cool. Plus an excuse to pull out a sword! I've been watching Attack on Titan with my wife and I think doing a scout outfit would probably be easy enough.

Victoria Fair

Let's face it, not all dragon movies can be the masterpiece 'Dragon Heart'. And that's ok.

Amy

I literally thought the exact same thing throughout the movie I could not stop thinking it was like I was watching Rachel, and my mom asked if it was her too.

Sarah Kelly

When I decided to watch this movie one night not long after it had come out, I literally kept saying to myself “I swear I am watching Rachel Maksy, not Millie Bobby Brown because they already naturally look so similar.” Rachel looks so much like her without the costumes, makeup and other stuff— so I already knew that it would be a great cosplay for her to do even though the film wasn’t like the greatest thing I’ve ever seen. And Rachel was absolutely correct about it being one of those kind of movies where you just kind of want to watch something for the fun of it. Because it is fantasy and could be a nice diversion from the everyday which made me enjoy it even though it wasn’t the best. I hate to say this because it sounds mean, but Millie Bobby Brown is a really great actress and carried this film on her back and made it alright. Also, I did like the message even if it was a tad bit cheesy, women empowerment will always be in my wheelhouse. Kind of wish there was a “Rosie the Riveter” emoji, wouldn’t that be awesome!?!

Sarah Kelly

It's like 1700s Damsel with magic.

Lily Sanchez

Right? it's visually pretty. I love the wardrobe.

Lily Sanchez

I just started watching this show too! So many fun costumes!

Misterandmissus Cuddleston

Loved this! I just started watching Renegade Nell on Disney+ and there’s so many fun costumes on that show that it’d be great to see your take on some of those!

Misterandmissus Cuddleston

Am I too old? I didnt get the "Honestly, Ronnie" reference!

GinEllen

It turned out amazing woahhh~~!! Somehow.. that corset looks like it’ll get more use in the future hehe x) looks comfy! Keen to see a ferngully cosplay now since you mentioned it x) haven’t thought of that masterpiece in yeaarssa~

ofelili

This is absolutely brilliant!

Mary McIntyre

I have not seen the movie, but this is an awesome cosplay. So perfect. The corset looks great and the dress is perfection. Great Job! Love it

The Vintage Queen of Everything

My husband also calls Rachel my YouTube girl. 😂

Lizz Kopta

The corset really looks pretty cool. Love it! I was about to send you a suggestion on Instagram but that didn't work so I'll try here: Rosa from the German fairy tale movie "Rübezahls Schatz" (Rübezahl's Treasure) wears a super-cute outfit and I feel this would also work as a regular outfit and not only a cosplay.

Conny

This was lovely! I'm glad you got to wreck something--it's always fun to see you go ham on a garment!

Leigh

Yaaaaaaas that would be SO CUTE!!!

Leigh

So glad you did this cosplay! I was watching Damsel the other night and my husband came in for a sec, "is that your youtube girl? in a movie??" You two look so similar!

Niki McD

Rings of Power harfoots? Or the black and gold vest outfit from The Fall.

Nora Walsh

How about Kaylee from Firefly? This project turned out great! Perfect example of simple-yet-effective costuming 🥰

Delphia

Loved it! Maybe you could do Emily of New Moon, would love to see your take on the character of Emily.

Kim

Since you asked :).. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molly_Malone With much more coverage, of course, and not bronze colored. I know you could pull this look off really well!

Robert Finnerty

This turned out so well!

Megan Diefenbacher

Love Love Love ❤️ ❤️❤️

JoJo Smith

Cosplay queen does it once again 😌😌

Edith

I loved this! I cannot for the life of me think of something that would be an easy cosplay idea. Maybe a Firefly option? Some of those might be easy.

Ciara Neiger

Just went and watched it. Crazy how much you DO look like Bobby Brown, Rachel ! Especially the end scenes ! And of course your recreation is spot on ! Of course, I'ld love to see you make the dragon ! Lol ! Maybe Frodo wants to cosplay !? Lol !

Margaret MacLellan

Love it!!! Now you just have to make the dragon!!! Like a giant dragon head would be pretty cool.😎

Samantha E.

Such a blast!

Amber Rhodes

over the garden wall?

Beebe Doe

Larp costumes as different archetypes could be fun. Also for brainfood: Keyleth, Jester, Yasha, or Imogen from Critical Role; Alina Starkov from Shadow and Bone; Malon or Llia from Legend of Zelda; Skyrim and The Witcher also seem like they may have some easy candidates.

Sabrné

Holy cow, Rachel.

Molly Fanton

I think Savannah would make a good Aziraphale ! (Though Tommy lives closer!) LOL!

Margaret MacLellan

Movie inspo ideas: The Craft, Jumanji (but make it Vintage), Tink (from Hook), and The Dark Crystal (for a more complicated look)

Melissa

I love it!!!

Melissa Gutiérrez

Arriety from the ghibli borrowers would be super simple

Jamie Vassar

That mothman shirt 🥹

Jamie Vassar

I'm a huge fan of Good Omens and cosplay Crowley all the time. I found he was a pretty easy character to put together. I just made the jacket and "scarf necklace" from season one and pulled the rest together from my closet or thrifting. I've even added a turtleneck for a Season 2 look. (And my bestie cosplays as Aziraphale now.)

Amanda B Cook

My girls & I watched this together & it was a fun romp! Thanks for the making-of vid!!!

Kim Ladouceur

I would love to see a “simple” Daphne from Scooby Doo!

Meghan Keate

I became brave enough to start using worbla, foam, plastidip, etc in my own builds because of your videos so I really loved this tutorial format!! I would love to see you break down more pieces of your process. Maybe if you’re working on a big project, you could focus a Patreon video on one aspect of the process, like how you did embroidery for Padme or adapted the dress pattern you used for Danielle. I just love learning from you because I never feel overwhelmed or intimidated when you explain and demo things so I would be excited about any videos where you break things down a bit more.

Hannah Land

I only made it like ten minutes into this movie... but I'm super excited to see Rachel eat, per usual.

GeeOriginal

This is definitely a useful tutorial for when Halloween comes around! You could do a whole video of simple Halloween costume ideas and DIYs maybe 🥰

Shannon Joy

You might dig Renegade Nell on Disney, lots of costume inspo.

Lily Sanchez

You are an absolute BADASS! It doesn't matter what weapon you wield; be it sword, Dremel, paintbrush, or glue gun, you are a force to be reckoned withwith and we are so lucky to be able to watch you work 💗

Maggie Stewart

Well now we need to see a full Krista from Ferngully cosplay!

Maura Cavanaugh

I would love to see the process of making the reels

Bihter Rana Aslan

I watched it last night for the first time, and all I kept thinking was "release the Floor Troll!" You did not disappoint. 🙌🙌

Melissa Trisko

Damsel? *googles* Cosplay? *googling intensifies*

Danielle Steinberg

OMG, when I was watching this movie, she looked so much like you that I just pretended I was watching you be a complete bad*ss. I'm so glad you're doing this cosplay!

KitsuneChibiko

The opening of the movie was a bit like reverse cosplay where Millie was dressed like you 😝

Naty

I can’t wait to finish work and watch this!!! I kept thinking Millie looked like Rachel while I was watching Damsel. 🥰

Janna

Yassss thank you Rachel!

Tabitha D

It’s soooo funny you did this Cosplay because the whole time I was watching the movie I kept slipping in to thinking it was you on the screen and feeling way overly protective of you even though it was really Millie Bobby Brown with red hair 😂🤣 Perhaps she was channeling her inner Rachel Maksy for the movie 🍿❤️🎥

Kristina Michelbook

Immediately races to the computer as soon as the Massachusetts/Vermont weather allows my power to come back on. MAKE UP YOUR MIND NEW ENGLAND!

Mary Ella

My want to get into cosplay grows stronger with everything you post 😂 I feel like with my "I could totally do something like that" craft confidence paired with my adhd it could only end well

Dottie Elizabeth Vanderbilt

What’s the movie if you don’t watch Rachel First!

Alicia

I haven't seen the movie but you bet I'm watching this video anyway!
