HI! Just wanted to put together a video of all of the bonus footage from my day at Plimoth Patuxet Museum, including: Cooking at the Patuxet site, viewing the "Plimoth Jacket", and getting all costume'd up!

I met so many lovely people this day and just wanted to share it all with ya! LOVE YA!

Love this video so, so much!

Laura Guebert

patrons ride along to savers 😂

My daughter is going there on a field trip tomorrow, with my husband as one of the chaperones. My husband and I went there about 10 years ago. We tried to attend an Alice in Wonderland event that was happening there about 6 years ago (with my daughter, 2 years old at the time, wearing a flamingo tea party dress), but we ran a little late, and weren't able to attend the production. One other time in Plymouth, at the beach near Plymouth Rock and the Mayflower, my husband and I were at a steampunk picnic. There were people who came by thinking all of us dressed in our steampunk regalia were pilgrims.

If you ever have a chance to go to Colonial Williamsburg, I got to do a tin plate workshop this spring and made a candle holder using colonial tools— the coolest experience I’ve ever had!

Emily Becker

Loved it!

Dixie Crowe

Since you're acquainted with Morgan Donner, you should talk with her about going to an SCA event :)

Delphia

Me too!

Fran H (Siigii)

Omg one of the people that helped with the costumes looks so much like Rose from The Great Pottery Throwdown!

Edith

If you want to do more content out of the house I really enjoy your thrifting videos!!

Tova Svensson

Looks like so much fun. Watching you get dressed up gave me flashbacks to my school production of The Crucible 💚 Edit if you ever come back to the UK then Kentwell Hall so their Hands-on History days where you can live like the Tudors

Bizbot

I said it on the main video but if you come back to the UK you should look into Preston Manor in Brighton and Hove, they give the upstairs downstairs experience of Edwardian houses I think it was, made lemonade and washed clothes and polished door knobs 😂

Whiskersomalley

The way I turned into the Leonardo DiCaprio pointing meme when Galen showed up. Super wild to see someone I know show up in your videos!

Averie K. Fraser

Loved it, would love to see you do more like this and maybe it's easier than "making" something? Love seeing Nick with you as well, I'm glad you get to experience it togther!

Faith Long

That seemed like an amazing day. I would so geek out about everything!!

Stacy Robnett

Excellent experience! I'm so glad you had the opportunity. BTW that embroidered coat!!!! Right?

T Rabbit

This is so cool!!

Shannon McBride

It was great seeing behind the scenes, thanks Rachel for sharing!

Mirna Johnson

this was so fun! loved seeing the other kind of cooking, the getting dressed part and that gorgeous plimoth jacket! I hope you do more videos like this in the future, it's great to watch something entertaining and learn things at the same time :)

Historical village sites like this are great places to go. Thanks for taking us along to show us your experience there! If you are ever interested in traveling outside of Massachusetts, I live in upstate NY and would be happy to scope out any potential sites to visit.

Tammy Warner

I LOVED this! In particular seeing the the dugout(?) burned out(?) canoes. Makes me want to go to Plimoth-Patuxet, a place I always avoided because I feared they'd romanticize the Pilgrims in a way that would lead to a not-enjoyable experience. (I also loved the style of the wardrobe staff member with the purple hair, that dress was adorable!)

Elise

As an Indigenous (from canada) i love learning about other indigenous nations (because we’re not all the same😊) so thank you so much for that ♥️♥️

MahikanKwe

Hoozzah!

Lucy Dreams

Would love to see you doing more historical skills! Maybe going to an alpaca farm and learning to spin wool, or learning about local plants for natural dyes? Love that kind of stuff and you can turn your makes into future sewing projects/costumes

Anna Sutton

This was so much hecking fun, I loved it! And I hope you can do more! I've never been to the east coast, really, so seeing and learning more of it is a joy and a delight!

Leigh

Oh man that's COOL!!!!!

Leigh

This was such a great video, can’t wait to see more like this!

Rachael Ellis-Ingamells

Thank you so much for showing the Wampanoag culture! As a MA resident it’s great to see local indigenous history.

Bridget

Kinesthesis is one of the four major learning styles in the Fleming VARK model, along with visual, auditory, and reading/writing. According to theories of learning styles, people learn best if instruction is offered according to their learning preferences. An individual with a kinesthetic learning style would learn best by doing, or actually performing an action. People who are kinesthetic learners learn through hands-on experiences. They prefer to move and stay active as they are learning. Games and physical activities are helpful and make concepts and skills more memorabl

Thanks so much for posting this!! I absolutely loved getting to see the costuming!!

Suzie Bergstrom

Absolutely loved this video! I also am more interested in the Native practices and appreciate you took the time and sought it out. Would love to learn even more. Also learned a lot from the wardrobe portion of the video. Terrific information. Much thanks!

Tivis Mercer

I went to college near Salem and am SO MAD i never went there for spooky season!!!

KC

Wait now I have to know about the Faith drama!!

Haven

Would you consider doing a local meetup at the Salem night market? 👀

Al Poirier

That's so awesome, and now I have another place on my list to visit if I ever make it out to the US east coast. I want those shoes so much, and I really loved the Wampanoag cooking--I liked the whole eating like 5-6 small meals a day thing.

Anna O.

I am so, so jealous! I love historic cooking and 16th/17th century is one of my favorite time periods. I occasionally get to do it over a fire and while using historic equipment, but mostly in my modern kitchen. (an example from a couple of years ago: https://youtu.be/PZsHdpavAzU) To actually be able to cook in a completely historic setting like Plimoth Patuxet is amazing! I love that you cooked quail in both places. And pancakey things. Nice symmetry. So exciting that you saw The Plimoth Jacket! I WAS ONE OF THE EMBROIDERERS!!! I remember I worked on both undersleeves, the right upper sleeve, and at least one of the fronts over the course of two years, so you most likely saw my work. It was an amazing experience and some of those threads hadn't been made in several hundred years. Such an honor to be involved. (And there was DRAMA!) I haven't seen Faith (that's the jacket's name) since the unveiling, but I'm glad she's safe at home.

Mina Murray

Yeesssss!! Been waiting for this since I watched the video on youtube!

Ash

That was awesome! I love learning about the indigenous peoples of New England. And its such a seldom taught part of our schooling. It would be so cool if you got to work with more historical societies! (the New Canaan Museum & Historical Society and Connecticut Museum of Culture and History come to mind)

Alex A

I really love the extra content on here! I do miss the bloopers at the end though. Would you consider adding them to these videos as well? They are always so hilarious 😂 💗

Tatiana

Thanks for a peek at the Plimouth Jacket - I read all about it as it was being done. Looking forward to your next adventure!

Tricia Hoffmann

You have to go to Salem, MA, during spooky season. And maybe Williamsburg, VA, in the spring. I've also heard there's a shipbuilding museum in Boston that supposed to be really good. Of course, you can do all the historical houses like Mount Vernon and Monticello. I'm on the West Coast and not able to visit any of these places any time soon so you have to do my bucket list for me :-)

M Pea

not something you can visit in the states but saw this recently and thought you might find it interesting https://www.guedelon.fr/en/

PandaLu

Thanks for the bonus footage, Rachel! I've been doing a deep dive on East Coast/Eastern Woodlands indigenous cultures over the past few months, so this glimpse of Wampanoag culinary tradition was a delight to see! Also, there's so much pokeweed growing around my house, and I had no idea the berries could be used for dye. Guess what I'm doing this fall...

Harper Alerion

I was so intrigued by the accent the historical reenactment used in the first episode. Like a mix of Scottish, Irish and Yorkshire! Anyone know if this is historically accurate?

Emma-Rose Colk

oooooo it wouldve been cool to see how the pokeweed was used to dye the cordage! i definitely just watched this instead of studying for an exam i have in an hour 😝

cherice zaleski

This is awesome! I went to high school with Melissa in Mashpee! Thank you for sharing Wampanoag culture! 🖤

Bobbi Pins

Ooo I absolutely appreciate how you collaborated with the historians beforehand to make sure you felt comfortable with the focus and perspective 😊 everyone you meet seems lovely and I am high-key jealous of getting to try so many tastyy natural foods.

Janna

This episode was one of my absolute faves! We LOVE historical reenactment and living history!!

Brittany Humphrey

Would love the recipes if you figure them out.

Michelle M.

Oo so excited to watch later! In the public video you mentioned being interested in other historical places. I recommend Strawbery Banke Museum in Portsmouth, NH (which maybe isn't too far from you since you're in Mass??) They do a wonderful holiday carol walk in December!

Scorpio Amber

🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️

Edith

Thank you for sharing!

Amber Rhodes

Ooh perfect timing! I'll watch this while painting my nails a little later. Thanks, Rachel!

Samanthula

YAY been waiting for this since your very subtle nod on your video :)
