The humidity is no joke, and nothing keeps you comfortable and protected quite like it. (Hiking in cotton can be dangerous because it doesn't breathe.) Linen will breathe and keep you cool better than anything else!

We live in Canada so I usually prefer warm vacation destinations but he has dreamed of going for years and it looks absolutely beautiful there so I'm excited. Costa Rica is also very beautiful, we went in their drier season so it was interesting to see the difference in landscape from the lush tropical jungle areas to the more dry desertish areas. Prepare for lots of bugs in the jungle haha maybe bring one of those head mosquito nets if they bother you.

They’re definitely both the opposite of instant gratification tho 😅 Also have fun in Costa Rica! I would go for the same reason of seeing a sloth in their natural habitat. There may be some rescues there where you can feed them and see them up close!!

2023-03-05 13:51:48 +0000 UTCRachel, I’m so excited for your trip! My husband and I went to Costa Rica in July for our honeymoon. It was the most amazing experience! We also used a travel agent, which was incredibly helpful. There is so much to see and experience there! We stayed in some really amazing places. We started in a cloud forest and then went to the hot springs near the Arenal volcano (sitting in those was the most relaxed I’ve ever felt). Next we explored the beaches at Nosara. And we ended in San Jose, learning about the city and the people. We got to do so many amazing activities, including hikes (during the day and at night- you can see so many neat animals with flashlights), kayaking, a tour of hanging bridges, swimming, witnessing a waterfall (Rio Celeste), shopping, and eating! I highly recommend going to local restaurants, which are called sodas. They have such delicious food and it’s so reasonably priced. I can’t wait to hear all about your trip! I hope you have an amazing time! Sending love to you!

She loved it and said it wasn't as cold as she expected (and she uses a battery-powered heated coat and socks in Virginia 😅). Have fun in Costa Rica! Be prepared for lots and lots of bugs, but a visit to the jungle is so worth it!

It has a good thickness so it doesn't warp and it's not too textured. I don't like canvas texture very much. This painting turned out great!

On weekends I would stay in hostels with other volunteers from around the world (Ireland, England, Amsterdam) and we would see sights. We hitch hiked and went to bull fights. I hope to have 50+ years with my kids but I know my dog only has about 15 years, the first 5 being before we adopted him. I take him everywhere I can to fit as much living as possible in his years. He loves traveling with us but it does limit us to drivable destinations.

2023-03-03 20:22:27 +0000 UTCPlease be careful around monkeys. They look innocent and cute but on my visit to Costa Rica a mob of wild monkeys attacked our tour van. The driver was used to it and stayed calm but the monkeys banged on the van for probably 10 minutes before we were able to drive safely again without hitting any of them. Those 10 minutes felt like an ETERNITY!

2023-03-03 19:29:32 +0000 UTCI think we all want a follow up to know Nick's reaction XD On the subject of traveling to Europe, I highly recommend visiting Denmark, at least Copenhagen!! I went with my best friend back in 2017 and we stayed for only a week, but we got to see so much. Let me tell you, I took over 1000 photos and I think the majority of them are architecture. I'm not religious at all (agnostic if anything) but I love looking at cathedrals. The Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek (museum) in Copenhagen is absolutely amazing (and is free on tuesdays, at least when we went). It was super easy to take a day trip up to Sweden as well.

They built it as a place for the monkeys to come get food, rather than trying to cross this huge highway (where they were dying). It definitely feels like a scam at first, but then this family goes into the forest and calls the monkeys in from the forest, and they descend down from the trees and crawl all over you and eat bananas out of your hands. It was the most magical thing that we did while we were there. Like a dozen monkeys crawling all over people.

There are new cities and nature to explore, why travel to another country if you're going to spend the whole time sitting in a hotel? Maybe that's because I'm also not a beach person, though I've tried to convince myself that I am. Costa Rica is an especially beautiful and vibrant country that you're going to love! I have friends there and honestly, the beauty of the jungles and mountains is unmatched.

And if I want to just chill I'd probably go somewhere more local like a spa or a cottage to read books, or just cuddle up at home. We also have the issue with our cats. They seem to alternate needing medicines or some special care, it makes it super awkward to go anywhere even just overnight, let along a longer break. Absolutely worth it though. At least people can take their actual kids on holiday with them 😆

The people are fantastic, it's just awesome. Keep an eye out for the monkey lines that are strung across roadways for wildlife to cross safely, travel safe and have a great time! (Also love the painting :) ) Also, if you're going to be there during the wet season.... ya get damp. Brace thyself.

2023-03-03 16:30:21 +0000 UTCJust as an aside on the Northern Lights - there were two massive ejections from the Sun last week and on Sunday and Monday nights we had such a strong aurora display that I photographed it from North Oxfordshire, UK at 52 degrees latitude. It was visible to the naked eye as well but only if you know what you're looking for. It's always such an amazing experience to see it so I hope you get to do your aurora trip soon.
