Valentine's Dress Poll!

HI FRIENDS! So this week I'm going to try to recreate this super frickin' cute 1950's playsuit (but with a detachable skirt because rompers look like diapers on me heeey-ooooo). I can't decide what I want the skirt portion to look like: Continue the repeated heart pattern OR do a more traditional 'circle skirt' design?

I'm thinking repeating the hearts might be a bit more timeless and less SPECIFICALLY Valentine's Day. ANYWHO. Lemme know what you think!

Mama Turtle

Anyone else fully blown away by how well and fearlessly Rachel went in with that red marker on that white dress and all the dang hearts came out perfect? Or just me? :)

Heidi/Tracy

Loved it so much!! It was stunning just as you 🥰💕

Larissa

So bloomin' cute!

Fran H (Siigii)

Well done Rachel for finding the energy to re-sew the heart! It turned out SO cute ♥️👏

Heidun

This turned out so good!

Crafty Cailleach

I really enjoyed this episode!!

Megan Burleson (@CreatiivityandCode)

Also I picked up Perun as a Patreon this month so miltary strategy and pretty dresses it is

Tim Chuma

Julia Jacklin's dresses? I swear I have been in this house https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-aXMU3Et90&ab_channel=juliajacklin

Tim Chuma

This was bittersweet for me, Our School system, here in Ontario Canada, has now cancelled any giving or receiving of Valentines' cards, as it is not something all nationalities celebrate. The taking away of giving cards to your friends, showing you care and are cared for just seems so wrong. Loved the dress though!

Lesley Young

Just wanted to say the video brought me so much joy today when I really needed it (battling COVID for the first time and it's going quite rough despite being fully vaccinated and boosted). Thank you for being you, for the whimsy, and for making me laugh today when you tried eating a conversation heart and described it as tasting like "elementary school rejection" 😆

Dana Plank

Just watched the video. I do like the final make 😎 as a sewer with 2 cats I know the "hair magnetic" fabrics. Well done you.

Lee Magrs

I'd like a combination, or a two in one skirt, like a skirt/secret pants combo, always love the unexpected. Whatever you decide on making will be lovely regardless...

Dreamingofpemberly

I’m so happy to be here! “We have fun here!”

Cecily Johnson

I think it would be cute to combine the ideas

Ukita Cosplay

Just saw a video with pet armor, I think your fur babies could use some!

Stacy Robnett

Happy for you to put my Patreon contribution towards disaster relief if you want to this month.

Tim Chuma

I am so happy to be here! Happy to financially support you for content Rachel. Take my monayyyyyy

Anna Sutton

Being me i wanted option c a combination of both! Looking forward to the result, and remember Racheal pace yourself, we love what you do because your so happy doing it do less stay happy x

Jane Kirk

This is so cute!!! Can't wait to see the final product <3

HunterScottyboi

I've been checking on it because I love the Rachel and want to see her do well. When I saw it was 4999, I decided "Yeah, I need to join." :)

Racheal Jones

Almost 4000 votes... I had no idea how big this community was! Wow!

Victoria

So excited! I nay have to make this myself

Veronica McCubbin

Ooof, hard to decide, and either will look super-cute, but I’m loving the classic poodle skirt vibe of the “B” option. I get what you’re saying about the continued pattern maybe being more versatile, but I kinda think that makes it MORE Valentine-y, truth be told…. but not like that’s a bad thing! Can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Alana Rae Andrews

This is so cool!!! Can not wait to see this🙈

Henna Myllymäki

Finally made it here! Whohooo <3

Agneta

Go to Rachel main patreon page then click membership.

Darla Sparrow

Thats so cool! How do you check the number?

Charo

5000!!!!!!!!! You go Rachel!! ❤️❤️❤️

Darla Sparrow

Rachel - have voted, and I'M YOUR 5000th PATRON!!!

Racheal Jones

I think Option B would work better if the bodice only had the one central heart and not all the little ones. As it is, I like Option A much more.

Laura Clayton

I love the poodle skirt style, but agree it may be a bit too ... specific? dated? not usually against things like that, but I think the bodice complements the overall heart pattern better

Elena Joy

make it double sided and do both?

Ruth Loc

I think option B would have been more interesting. I would have liked to have seen how you made the bottom heart design - WITH EMBROIDERED BEADS MWHAHAHAHAHA

Oli Bee

I like the idea of an extra panel with hidden hearts. Maybe with some red tulle for a little pizazz!

Kristen Waltrip

They are both so cute, it was hard to choose one! Either will be great!

Anna Roberts

I have been staring at these 2 options since yesterday and I had to flip a coin because I can't decide! They're both so cute!

Georganna Bell

LOL omg that would be frickin adorable

Rachel Maksy

OOOO That's smart! Idk If I'll have the time for that this go-around but a reversible circle skirt is genius!

Rachel Maksy

Me too!!!

Rachel Maksy

How much horrible effort would it take to dangle little hearts all along the hem? Surely not as much as 3000 little tiles on the disco ball dress? Maybe too much? Is there such a thing?

Kendra

love both designs! Was really hard to choose. I can’t wait to see this come to life ✨

Ainsley Mayersky

Loving the first pattern. Its more romantic. I vote heart prints

MomoSaurus

A reversible option would be amazing!

Robin Foltz

Both are great choices. I like them both, Maybe a reversible removable circle skirt? I'm voting for B, I think its cute and totally 50s

The Vintage Queen of Everything

I am excited <3

Yuelina

Reversible! ❤️

Elin Westerlund

I have a sneaking suspicion that you'll end up making both, given time. Personally, I like them both and know they'd look great on you. Have fun. ❤️

Gail Tilley

Totally agree with TiGar there - the overall heart pattern gives it a more vintage feel. <3

MeowmixCat

I love the vintage vibe of all over hearts ♥️

TiGar’ Alexander

SECRET ROMPERS AHHHH

Rhyoxene

Reversitile! 🙃

Kristen Ell

the answer is yes

Laura

Yay, so excited to be able to vote in polls! Looking forward to whichever design you create!

Cassie Creley

Ooh he would be so cute in a heart bow tie!

Cassie Creley

Both are lovely. I think the skirt pattern on B would flow a little better with the top if it was rotated to the left slightly so the bottom of the top heart and the squiggle for the bottom hearts met up

Jaymie

I feel like you’ll get more use out of A, but B is so fun! I am 100% team reversible ❤️

Janessa Penner

I ❤️ it either way!

Natasha Sawicki

Yay! The first Maksy poll I've taken part in. Feels momentous!! ❤❤ Can't wait to see the finished dress, which ever option wins it's going to be SO cute!

Stara Herron

To me, the poodle skirt style reads more "costume" than everyday wearable. With the repeating hearts, (assuming you're not using an existing print fabric), you could also have them cascading down or more tightly bunched at the top and more spread out at the bottom. I'm sure it'll be utterly adorable, whichever direction you decide to go in :)

Holly Dunn

100% reversible all the way!!!

Liz Hennessy

I think that's a great idea- it will take up less space!

angela lucas

Reversible!!! ❤️

Holly Neal

Yaaaaassssss reversible!

Sophie Potvin

Extra panel would be so pretty!

Caroline Quincy

You could make frodo a little matching outfit and he could be your valentine ❤️❤️

A series of interchangeable Emmas

Ooooooohh the reversible skirt idea seems really cool!

Gian Balangue

Reversible!!!💖❤️

Saralouwho

It would look more like the old poodle skirts if it was one big heart design

Melissa Elphinstone

100% team reversible skirt! Both are super cute so why not both? 😂

Julia Tarita

Yeah, reversible would be amazing! Or an extra panel that opens to reveal the other design?? So excited to see the finished look!

Brieann Chapple

That was a hard choice! They are both adorable!!

Brieann Chapple

Since it’s detachable, you can make one skirt then the other. OR MAKE IT REVERSABLE!

Jennifer Harlow

I really couldn’t decide so I went option b thinking it was more 50ish still both are so cute

Sarah Roop-Rosales

wonderful idea!

Anna Wilson

I said A, but they are both freaking cute. Team reversable skirt all the way bay-bee!

Carrie Dunlap

If it's detachable it could also be reversible!

willowflame13

ditto

Debbie deTreville

I am on team reversible skirt, which seems to have been suggested already. 😁

Elizabeth Cherry

that's such a good idea!

Eva Wildschut

It doesn't have to be all at once, but, why not both?

angela lucas

Definitely option A!! It’s going to be so adorable!

Tatiana

Oh, or reversible skirt!!

Evelyn Smith

hear me out - it's a detachable skirt right ? so you could do both ?

alyssia

Lovecore all year round!

Eva

love the poodle skirt idea but honestly love the all over hearts more! ❤️

Eliott Jaimes

This is so cute. Can't wait to see how this turns out!

callie guilfoyle

Option a is too good to say no to 🥺

Bon Schweetz

I love option A, but I am so excited to see how this turns out regardless!

Sam Williams

They are both cute, but I feel like option B is much more custom and personalized. With view A, you just cut out the fabric and you're good to go. View B is more unique and can be tailored to your preferences

Sarah G

I think both are super cute (and I can see why you're having a problem deciding); I went with A because of the wearability but honestly, go with which project will make you happiest t create.

Ninka

I was thinking a combo of big heart with small hearts, but reversible would be just as cool.

Tee Moonbur

Oh my gosh these are both so cute! I love the all over hearts personally but I say go with what you'll wear the most!

Kathryn Ballinger

Option A is just so fricking cute ☺️

Charlotte Ménétret

These are both so adorable! I think the all over hearts pattern will be the most "year-round" friendly, but literally you can't go wrong either way! <3

Jessie

Ok hear me out...I voted for A, but what about a poodle skirt design with...kissing poodles!

Mary Good

either one works for me… I saw that most were asking for the heart pattern so I voted for that one too. Although, I kinda wanted the other one more. LOL

Kelly (Nellas)

That is so cute😍

Eme Brie

They're both gorgeous but I prefer the all over print ❤

Rachael Cowden

Option B looks more like the poodle-skirt design, so timeless 1950s.

Lilac Haven

I love both designs, but I'm a sucker for a good all over love-heart print!

H.J.Ross

For someone who wears their heart on their sleeve I would definitely put a big one on my skirt too…. My vote is B

Kate Rothery

Romper with attachable skirt is the perfect dancing outfit. Twirls without caring your skirt lifts up. Does husband want to twirl you for the reveal? Adorbs

Jennifer

I love them both! So hard to choose. Love the versatility of the repeated hearts but also love the niche-ness of the poodle-style. Whatever you choose will be so super stinkin cute though!!

Andrea

If you're going for what the current crowd likes Rachel - you'll do the repeating hearts. But if you want to do authentic 1955 -- it's the simple 2 heart design. My aunties all had Poodle skirts back then and solids and simple designs were the shit. See: Grace Kelly - The noir Femme fatales like Ava Gardner

Dave & Kim Tew

oooh reversible

Rachel

Use a stamp and fabric paint for the hearts!! It would look so cuten

Miriam Dean

But consider: both?

Tee Moonbur

Repeating heart pattern for sure! Also if you're ever looking for content to put up here I'd love to see printable patterns for some of your projects - your vintage makes and wearables are so cute!

Ivy

But, uh, consider this: two poodles kissing instead of the hearts

Hayley Mar

I voted for B because you could deck out those hearts with doilies and other cute shit. But duh A would be great, too

Hayley Mar

So excited to vote in the first poll!!

Derrillynn Parker

Love the all over pattern, much more options for other uses since it's detached. Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Jessi C.

Hmmmmm, I really love B and that big ole heart (because I am an animal who would wear big hearts any day of the year with 0 shame) but!!! Yeah... Probably A.

Evelyn Smith

While I really like option B, I think that for this particular bodice, the continuity that option A offers will look best.

Melinda

Repeating hearts would look super cute I think, I really love how it looks in the reference picture :)

Rhiannon

Lol, why is it that I when I picked the less popular option, I felt like I picked wrong. 😅 But I stand by option B!

Elena Teresa

I really like B, but you're right, A is less specific for Valentine's day.

Lena Clark

Hearts all over for sure!! It also unintentionally gives 'stereotypical men's boxers in a cartoon' which is a vibe (a vibe a love) hahaha

Mary Jane King

I picked B because I love the 50s vintage look, but it would honestly be adorable if you did the reversible thing so you could do two skirts in one. I know it’s more work, but it also makes the dress more versatile.

Carole Moore

Looking great! Can’t wait to see the finished product :)

Nadia Meyer

The all-over heart skirt might look better to wear with other tops too.

StrawberryMad

This will look so beautiful on you!

Kelsey LaRiviere

These are SO CUTE, can't wait to see it come together! ❤️

PricklyAlpaca

Are you adding the hearts by hand? It could be cool if you kept going down the skirt and then faded them out like halfway down.

Sarah

That romper is to die for! It'll look so gorgeous as a dress. I like option A, but I'm such a sucker for hearts.

Enasni Vee

I was goint to pick B, but then I saw the inspo pic. It's so cute.

Buffy R Cary

This could be very cute with some big ole sleeves, too!

Bethany Encina

This will be so cute! Something that worked for me to fix the diaper-esque romper issue was to make the legs a little wider & longer so they don’t cling, maybe it would work for you too!

Emily Garth

I say a mix of both, so it doesn’t have as much white

Emma Weston

I think you are spot on with your thinking on which pattern. A detachable skirt will be so cute.

Ever Adventuress

The reversible skirt idea ( or a reversible corset? 🤔) Option a will look so cool made up

Marilin North

I love the heart pattern if it's detachable even better!!!!!

Sanam Jamshidi

Ooooo this is such a great project! ♥️

Charlotte Fox

Oooohh I'm excited for this!

justine Desrosiers

My three year old was adamant about option B so I had to go with her choice this time!

Jessica henry

I prefer A but you do you Rachel. I have no doubt you will look good no matter which one gets made.

Kris McBride

It’s so cute! 😍❤️ I second heart shaped glasses to go with it!

Clara Schnitzel

I think having the heart pattern continued on the skirt will make the heart bodice stand out more :) this is so cute!

Mikki

Option B is more wearalbe later :)

Katarzyna Gajewska-Rogusz

Oh man, this gives me Grease, Sandra Dee vibes! Now I want one!!

Davita Kirkland

This idea is so cute!

Stacey Rice

How cute! Whichever way you choose to go I know it'll be darling! I can't wait to see it! 💛✨️

A.M. McPherson

whichever option you go with, PLEASE get some heart-shaped sunglasses to wear with it 😍

Laney Boyd

The big heart shape on the top already seems like enough of a feature, I think option B would make it all a bit much for the eye?

Katie Brobst

I second the idea for doing reversible design for *obvious reasons*

Rachael Roqué

I think you can't go wrong with either design, but I'm leaning to Option A with all the hearts. YOU WILL BE A LIVING VALENTINE 💘

Kristin Rogersdotter

Are you willing to play with the colors and patterns of the top? The heart pattern on the skirt looks good, but paired with the heart pattern throughout feels overwhelming. If the big bodice heart was solid white it might not be so overwhelming. Or maybe solid red fabric for the bodice that isn't the heart?

Sabrné

oh that’s a great idea!

Nico

Excellent idea!!

Lilly Patch

A detachable heart? I had one on my Halloween dress.

Tine

I love both so much! I kinda want a reversible skirt with one design on each side. But if I have to choose, it's the repeating hearts pattern

Katelyn Bowlin

making it reversible is a great idea!

pebblefinder

I love the asymmetry of option B, so I picked that one, but people make some very excellent points about option A. Both are lovely!

Emily Lien

So cute!!! 💛

Cassie Falat

Hooray! So excited!!!

Amanda Meehan

The felt circle skirt idea is very reminiscent of a poodle skirt to me. If that’s something want then go for it, but the continuous heart concept is very timeless and can be worn all year round. If you are looking to give it a little bit of flare you could always embellish a few of the hearts on the front panel with sequins or some such bedazzlement. 🥰

GingerGeege

So excited to see that!

Capuce

Ooohh I love the suggestion someone made of making it reversible!

Chiichick

The heart pattern is an adorable option! It could also be great as a summer dress, too. The larger print section on B would look so cute on a tote or apron.

Ashleigh Ann Gardner

This is so cute!!! I am ready!!!!!

Katherine LaPlante

I also love the idea of doing a reversible skirt. Or 2 skirts since it's detachable.

Karli Koeser

So exciting!! Can't wait to see it

✨Sadie✨

I was also first drawn to B because it looks like the hearts in the traditional Portuguese clothing. But it is true that the couple of hearts would remind too much of valentine's day to be worn on other occasions. Can't wait to see the result !

Maren Bivar Letemple

Are you going to use a specific pattern??? I’ve been trying to find a good play suit pattern for a few weeks for a costume I’m making!

johanabi (yo-ha-na-bee)

Genius, yet so simple

johanabi (yo-ha-na-bee)

Yay!

Lindsey

Oh, that is such a good idea!

GumUlf

Option A - it continues the hearts theme but doesn't distract from the heart on the bodice. I can't wait to see the end result! 💕

Lucy's Vintage Compendium

You could make it reversible! Best of both worlds. :)

BlameMyMuses

As a dress I would say B, but as a detachable skirt I'm saying A, as it would work in more outfits.

GumUlf

That's a GREAT idea :o

Helga Dís Björgúlfsdóttir

Unless you already have a repeating hearts pattern? The larger heart design - and I'd do it in something like yarn or embroidery fabric, just to make it a bit more... I guess timeless?

The Evills

I was initially drawn to B but I think you're right about A being a bit more timeless and able to wear more

Stacy Litwin

Oh I like this idea!

Allison Surratt

Tough choice. Is there anyway to make the lower portion reversible?

Christian Frahme

Voted for A but both are so cuteee

ChristinaUdale

I love both (maybe reversible?) but I feel like option B's little heart decal would look better on a purse or clutch to go with the dress

Maggie Mae Shaak

I think the heart print pattern would suit a romper, but the visual scale of the skirt might need something a bit larger to offset the heart shaped bust? So a few hearts falling across the hips, but then turning into the larger felt traditional valentines hearts would suit the proportions better. Also, painting that many hearts on that much meterage of cloth would kill your hands and take eleventy million years.

Heidi Hickman

My first reaction was option B but the more I looked at them, the more A became my favorite.

Lynnetta

The hearts give me that kind of apron/housewife vibes but the other one reminds me of poodle skirts. So I love the circle skirt one!

Brenna Gregory

What a genius!

Rachel Hogan

Bizbot is on to something! Reversible skirt! They are both really cute 💕

MadamRed

Might be cute if the hearts stayed lighter in quantity at the waist and then got more heavy toward the bottom, kind of ombre/gradient

Kristen McD

Literally just so happy to give input 😭😭😭 this Patreon gives me SO MUCH serotonin ❤️❤️❤️

Casey Cook

Hearts, hearts, and more hearts!! ❤️💜💕💜❤️💜💕💜❤️🥰

Kristina Michelbook

If it’s detachable you could in theory do both

Amy Short

Love it! 🥰It’s so cute, sexy and fun. I’m sure it’s gonna turn out amazing ❤️

Fati Trujillo

Ughhhh that was a hard one!! I love heart themes and it was a super close decision but definitely repeating hearts. If there’s a choice for more cuteness, always more cuteness 😍🥰😘❤️

Mallory

When I was a tiny munchkin an aunt would handmake Barbie clothes for me. She made an outfit exactly like your Option A. ☺️😍

BlooValkyrie

The repeating heart pattern!

Abby Normal

If you really want, you could do the little hearts but make a detachable heart detail for when you're feeling festive 😉

Maggie Stewart

Ohhh...heart pockets!!!

Monica Jenette Tschirhart

The all over hearts are just so so cute!! 🥰 I love valentine's outfits 😭💗

Luna Roux

Everything hearts would be so cute but either one would be cute! Can't wait to see what you make ❤️

Sue Yang

Super cute and fun idea! 👏

Rebekah Anderson

Both are so cute I almost couldn’t decide!

Arti

I love heart themed clothes! I know this project is gonna be so dang cute.

Lauren Werlinger

i agree that the pattern will probably be more timeless! also, it's so nice to be able to be part of a project like this! 🙌🏻🥰

jesuiskatie_

Omg what if you made the skirt reversible and did one on each side?? 😍😍😍

Leanne O

Continued pattern! I think a circle skirt/poodle skirt motif would look too late era for the rest of the bodice (‘40s/‘50s)

Anna Edwards

I'm leaning towards the little hearts because it's a bit sweeter. The circle skirt is adorable but a bit less charming imo

Harper Curry

That was supposed to be an exclamation point hahaha

Gabidoesstuff

Omg this is going to be perfect!! So excited!!

Katie

I LOVE option B, but I do agree that option A could be used for more than just Valentine’s Day.

Caitlyn Taylor

I like both! But I definitely think the first option is on trend and vintage at the same time!!

Miriam Dean

Maybe with some heart pockets on the hips with cute stitching too??

Mallory Myers

this is so fun voting on stuff like this I LOVE PARTICIPATION WOOHOO lol

Elizabeth O'Meara

SO excited!

Gal Michael

Either will be absolutely adorable! (Also I hear you on rompers looking like diapers, hard same)

Renee Horne

The heart pattern for now, maybe the circle skirt pattern for something else? Like anniversary?

Lindsay Nava

This is gonna be soooo cute! I cant wait for this! 💖💖💖

Pivotal Petals

Both are really cute, but option B has fancy embellishment potential ?

Gabidoesstuff

They're both heckin cute 💖 how about a reversible skirt with both? 😁

Bizbot

Option b looks a little more costume-y. A is super cute

Sarcastic_wiccan

I’m so excited for this! ♥️

Carrie

This is so fun! I love being able to support on Patreon and see what’s to come! I like A but I know it’ll be adorable whatever you do!

Meghan Szablak

This is SO cute!!😍

Ivy C

Oh I love the first one!!! Can’t wait to see you make it 💕💕🤩

Alex

The little hearts are so cute

Katy Beaumont

I'm gonna be That Guy here but...what if both? The accent curl with the repeating hearts...too much? 🤔

Ashley Bryner

The heart pattern just feels a little more wearable to me, somehow?

Morgan Bloom

both are SO cute 💗

Amy Butler

I like the idea of the heart pattern, it'll be a little like polka-dots 😊

Annie von Holt

Oehhhh can’t wait to see the result ❤️

Kelly Sabbe
