Sand Prairies & The Ancient Mississippi River

Apparently these sand prairies (and the distinct plant communities they create) occur all the way down the river, a relict of the past few million years of this river's depositions and changing paths.

Fluvial geomorphology is cool. Hope you got to experience some delta time!

I saw the Phytolacca americana and cheered. I have pokeweed in my front yard here in Central Florida. It has formed a nice tree/shrub in my native landscape. The birds love it. If you ever come through Central Florida, let me know and you can tour our native nursery. Is love for you to see what I've done to my property. I also have a friend who has turned her property into a prairie!
